These are few of may favourite things. Another issue, another month. We are here for another month with Fashion, Music and Culture. Indeed a few of our favourite things in life. This month seems to be a busy month for us women in particular. We kick off the month with the Women of the World Festival, celebrating all that is great about us ladies and empowering other women to see the greatness in themselves. Shortly after we celebrate Mother’s day, giving thanks to that important woman who gave you life. Of course not forgetting St Patrick’s Day where we shall be going down to the pub to drink and be merry. We have a little exciting segment with Gorgon City in this issue and they are “Ready for your love”, so flip over to the next page and see what all the fuss is about.

Scott Hallsworth turns up the heat with KurobutaFood for thought

Having completed his apprenticeship at the Sheraton, Hyatt Regency and Lord Forrest ho-tels in Perth, Australian chef Scott Hallsworth began his culinary career properly in 1996 as Chef de Partie at Perth’s No.44 King St Brasse-rie, before being taken on in the equivalent role at Australia’s Hayman Island Resort. It is here that Scott’s love affair with Asian, and specifi-cally Japanese cuisine and culture really began when he was asked to promote the Hay-man Resorts in Singapore and Taiwan.

Scott Hallsworth owner of Kurobuta Marble Arch: 17-20 Kendal Street, W2 2AW &

Kurobuta Chelsea: 251 King’s Road, SW3 5ELReservations line: 0203 475 4158

As Head Chef, he also had theresponsibility for organising a number of high-profile events, includ-ing a special dinner in Madrid for the Beckhams, back-stage catering for Michael Jackson and seasonal catering for Roma Abramovich’s pri-vate box at the Chelsea Football Club, to name but a few. Back in London, Scott spotted an opening in an apparently saturated market – there was no casual, mid-range venue offering fabulous Japa-nese cuisine to the masses in a relaxed setting. Kurobuta, a contempo-rary version of the traditional Japanese izakaya – a relaxed, social set-ting similar to a pub where guests linger over a drink with tapas-style food, began its life as a pop-up on the Kings Road and is now a perma-nent site. This stripped-back, ‘rock’n’roll’ concept serving exemplary Japanese food, with Scott’s signature East-meets-West twist, proved a huge success with the public, and Kurobuta has now opened as second permanent site on Kendal Street near Marble Arch, with further ex-pansion planned, both in London and worldwide.

H&M will forever stay in our good books. Through their Con-scious Foundation, H&M and their faith-ful customers have managed to raise £1.5 million to go towards a unique project that will empower Ethi-opian women from low-income urban communities. The majority of the poor in Ethiopia are women and teenage girls. They are frequently subject-ed to discrimination in multiple areas. As

most Ethiopian women spend a lot of time work-ing within the household, they also have less time for paid work.In this three-year project, CARE an organisation fighting global poverty and pro-

viding life saving assis-tance in emergencies, will support women in developing their own businesses to generate income, gain

more power in their families and commu-nities and to enhance self-esteem. The women will be trained and coached in business skills and life skills in order to set up their own en-terprises. A portion of their enterprises will deliver social services such as child care and catering, which will enable even more women to combine paid work with family responsibilities.

Lizzie King will add some flavour to your month with her “GET RICH OR TIE-DYEING” master-class. In this class Lizzie will talk you through how to fold, pleat, dip, crum-ple and swirl (No it’s not a new dance) giving your material that new glow. Bring whatever material or old piece of old cloth-ing you want to trans-form, alternatively you can buy a plain t-shirt on the day. The rest of the dyeing materials will be provided to you.

The festival is back again for another year, celebrating and empowering the women of our world. The festival is now in its fifth year will be held over a week with talks, debates, workshops and performances. Feminist Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Bridget Christie will be on hand to provide some laughs as part of the festival’s comedy line-up. 150 women will have the opportunity to be mentored by 150 leading women from various industries including music, fashion and the arts.

Invitation Strictly Personal is an exhibition based around all the excitement associated with catwalk shows. Objects displayed range from invitations dating from 1961, in the main from the collection of Iain R Webb, to notes and sketches made by Webb from the front row critiquing the garments. Harking back to the pre-digital age where journalists’ reportage of shows was the only way to see images and gain opinions of the collections, this exhibition gives a truly intimate and fas-cinating insight into one journalist’s experi-ence of attending catwalk shows throughout his career. We wonder how they managed without imminent Instagram and Twitter feeds?

This store is an H&M subsidiary and harbours a collection of clothes from the finest Swedish & French ateliers. & Other Stories are rather exclusive; they only have one store in the UK. There is plenty for everyone from beauty prod-ucts, elegant blouses and cropped trousers, there is a perfect fit waiting for you.

Rough Trade have been around for over 30 years now. We stumbled upon them on our stroll down Brick Lane. There are two stores in London and one in New York, however we recommend the Brick Lane one. The store has a vintage feel to it with a display of vinyl records as well as CD’s and books. The Brick Lane branch appears to be more spacious which would perhaps explain why they are able to hold performances in their store, all you have to do is purchase a CD in order to get a ticker to their shows. All in all it is a lively, vibrant store which has plenty to offer for a music store, especially their in store café where you can grab a bit of cake and tea.

Great things happen when two fashionable and intelligent women come together. Two local mums saw an opportuni-ty when they realised there were no local shops in their area catering for their style, Iris was born. Both Annie and Sarah have a fashion background so they know what they are talking about and what they are selling you. Iris have three stores spread across London stocking an array of brands including Etoile by Isabel Marant, ACNE and Ba&sh

69b was founded by fashion stylist and magazine editor Merryn Leslie a few years and the store ex-panded into an online boutique. Merryn brings a lot to the table with 69b having worked with some of the top fashion publications including i-D and Vogue Sustainable fashion is the way to go these days and 69b know that. 69b stocks exclusive and contemporary collections from up & coming and established designers. 69b also offer a personal shopping service.

For the fierce woman who likes to create her own style, this store is perfect for you

Fashion PillsPure London upholds its reputation as key order-writing

show following AW15/16 success

Pure London’s recent Autumn Winter 15/16 edition, which closed its doors on last month, has affirmed the show’s reputation as a key order-writing trade event, with brands noting a high-qual-ity and actively-buying audience of decision makers. This also helps to confirm we are definitely out of a hard

hitting recession. With over 800 fashionable brands to see , buyers couldn’t keep away, some came back for a second and third day. Leading independent retailers were out in force, including The Dressing Room, Sunday Best, Hurley, Lux Fix, Huttons, Luck of Louth, Vanilla, Sis-ters Boutique, Scarletts, Indigo, Hen-gelo, Tower London and A Hume.Joining the multitude of indies were buyers from Anthropologie, ASOS, Bentalls, Debenhams, Fenwick, Har-rods, Harvey Nichols, House of Fras-er, John Lewis, JOY, Marks & Spencer, Office, Dune Group and Oliver Bonas.

Pure London welcomed over 300 new names to the show this season, provid-ing a pivotal platform for new, emerg-ing and launch pad brands to meet and engage with leading retailers. De-signer and niche collections excelled this season, with the more premium sections of the show having complete-ly sold out.The next edition of Pure London will take place from 2-4 August 2015 at London Olympia. For more informa-tion or to register your interest to at-tend or exhibit, please visit:www.purelondon.com.Make sure you do not miss it.The Millinery brand Bernstock Spiersrecently partnered up with Preen for their Autumn Winter 15 showcase at London Fashion Week. Models strut-ted their stuff down the catwalk in oversized hats drawing reference from the 1970s’ mixed with a 1930s’ cloche style.

The watch brand Casio Baby G the female version of their G-Shock watch col-laborated with SIBLING on their Autumn/Winter 15/16 collection showcase at London Fashion Week.

The watches very much complemented the colour-ful designs of SIBLING and indicated a possible commercial collaboration for next season.

We saw Simone Rochas’ Autumn/Winter 15/16 collection inspired by the work of LouiseBourgeois infusing tapestry and Tulle, tweed and lace.

Fyodor Golan decided to take us on an exotic trip beyond reality with their A/W 15/16 collection. The idea was to rebuild reality in your mind yourself. Both designers come from a Fine Art background infuse an expressive approach with cleangeometrical silhouettes and sportswear aesthetics into modernluxury womenswear.

are three facts about the boys

that you may wish to know

Chateau Marmont are due to release their second album Sound of Shambala on March 30th 2015 via their own label Chambre404 and Arista/ Sony Mu-sic. Welcome to Sound of Shambala- where Raphael Vialla and Julien Galner of Chateau Marmont have positioned themselves as today’s greatest heirs to a brilliant tradition of melodies and arrangements made in France; a science that naturally draws its inspiration as much from the legacies of Michel Colombier and Gainsbourg as from Michel Magne or Francis Lai.

Lead singer Sam Battle lives in a squat in Tottenham on the Broadwater Estate in London, which used to be a retirement home for the elderly. When ZIBRA was formed, lead singer Sam had a job repairing broken synths, selling old music pedals, taking photographs of tourists visiting London, sold taxidermy on Ebay. Bassist Ben used to work in hospital the-atres and has held every organ in the human body.Sam has held an exhibition around his synth collection. One model is a touch synth model, which needs a group of

people to hold hands and play it together. On the exhibition opening, someone got an electric shock so the event was quickly shut down for health and safety reasons.

Don’t you just love them more now?

The Queen of Hip Hop and R’n’B Mary J Blige is back and she will bless us with her presence here in the UK. After her show-stealing performance alongside Sam Smith at the Grammy Awards, Mary will be releasing her new single ‘Doubt’ on 30th March and is taken from her recent album. ‘The London Sessions’.

Demur Music Hawks –Gorgon CityMatt & Kye are the duo who make up Gorgon City. We caught up with Matt ahead of their performance at the Roundhouse, performing their track “Read for Your Love” featuring MNEK plus many more.

“I just got here and ev-eryone is here getting all the stuff ready. It’s a big one for us tonight. We are performing at the Round-house which is a pretty massive deal.” On success… “It’s a bit mad for us. We have been so busy working ,we haven’t had a chance to take it all in and see where we are and think about how far we have come.”The whole ex-perience is… “tiring there is a lot of travelling and moving about. Playing with the band we have is exciting, We are getting to know themwhen we hang out. We feel like family now. You also get to meet new people which isalways a good thing.” The relationship with Kye… “I haven’t know Kye for long. We met a couple of years ago. We were two separate DJ’s

working on our own and just got together and started creating. What’s it like to work with someone you ha-ven’t known for long… “It’s kind of cool because you just concentrate on

the music, compared to when you work with your best friends you tend to waste time just talking about shared ex-periences and old times etc . Me & Kye work so well together, we still have a lot of fun together and we are very produc-tive.”Breaking through from an independent label… “We’ve both been do-ing music for a long time separately. I was

an underground DJ just playing at various clubs around the world. I was always doing music pro-fessionally but not on this scale, so it has been a long time coming. It has

taken some-thing like ten years to get here and we are both very happy.Gorgon Citys’ music ingre-dients… “Our music is in-fluenced by the music we grew up listening to. We grew up listening to jungle, house,

grime, hip-hop and ga-rage. We like to make music that sounds good when played out loud.”If it wasn’t a career in mu-sic… “Music is all that I know. If I wasn’t doing what I am doing now I would probably still be doing something to do with music. When I was younger I was into events organising so maybe I would do some-thing to do with music promotion.”

The Jennifer Hudson collaboration… “We made the track, “Go All Night” and we knew we needed some vocals on the track. We sent the song to our American publishers who work with some of the American artists out there, like Rihanna and of course Jennifer Hudson. We had previously worked with Jennifer on the track “I Still love you” on her album “JHUD”, so when she heard this track (“Go All Night”), she already knew of us and was keen to work with us again. We heard the vocals she did and we were blown away by it, she is just amazing”

In music right now… “People like MNEK, obviously we are quiet biased, but he is a great artist and is doing it for us in music right now. Kidnap Kid who is also signed onto Black Butter records, he is set to have a good year this year, so look out for him”When it comes to fashion… “We both like nice looking clothes. We get to see a bit of that world when we do photo shoots and music videos. The stylists we work with know their fashion and they project what we would

like which quite cool”

For clothes shopping Gorgon City go to… “Kye and I both like Kenzo, Sandro as well for their jackets. Selfridges also sell good brands and some of the best collections. I never used to go to Selfridges when I was younger but recently I have started going there and I have started to appreciate what they have to offer. They kind of select your style for you rather than you having to go in there and rummage through to find what you want.”

One last thing … ”Go and get our album “Sirens” if you haven’t already and come and vibe with us at one of our shows.”
