MARCH 15, 2020 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

The 6 Characteristics of an Everyday Stewardship for Lent – Gracious

Vacations can be great times for refueling the body and renewing bonds within a family and between friends. No

matter how good the vacation was, it is almost always good to get home when it is over. Sleeping in our own bed, taking

a shower in our own bathroom, and resting on our own couch are some of the aspects of home we can miss while on the

road. That’s why encountering truly gracious and hospitable people while we are away is so important. These people are

not family, but they sure can provide for us a glimpse of home. They can be waiters at a restaurant, desk hosts at a hotel,

or even Uber drivers. They enrich our lives if for only a moment, yet that moment can make all the difference.

When disciples of Jesus Christ act in a gracious manner to all those they meet, they provide a glimpse of home. This

home is not in a house in a particular location, but it is a home prepared for all of us for eternity. No matter how com-

fortable we may be in our earthly homes, it truly pales in comparison to eternity with God. In that heavenly home, there

is no darkness, only light. There are no tears, only joy. There is no hate, only love.

We are ambassadors for heaven by how we offer ourselves to others. Our stewardship of hospitality allows others to

see a glimpse of what God promises to us. Unless we truly step up and act in a gracious manner, will those we encoun-

ter ever know the Truth? I hate it when I am on the road and fail to meet people full of joy and welcome. At least I can

look forward to coming home. What do those along the way look forward to in the next life that you can’t show them a

glimpse of in this one?

Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Next Week’s Gospel Reflection: John 9:1–41

Jesus invites the man born blind to see in two ways.

First, Jesus heals his physical sight. Jesus opens the

man’s eyes to see birds, flowers, faces, and sunlight

coming through trees. The man born blind also comes

to see that Jesus must be from God if he can open a

blind man’s eyes. This is a second way of seeing: see-

ing and believing in Jesus, who brings us God’s love

and healing.

Jesus invites us to use our eyes for both kinds of see-

ing—first to see the wonders of creation and of people,

and second, to see God’s love and goodness in these

wonders and in his healing actions.

Let us see and appreciate together the wonders of

God’s creation and the wonder each person is, and ex-

plore what Jesus wants us to see and believe about

who he is.

Life Questions: When has what you see with your

eyes healed you or deepened your faith in God’s

love?

Gospel Question: What in the story of the man born

blind’s journey to faith in Jesus is like your own

faith journey?

Next week: Fourth Sunday of Lent

About the Gospel:

Jesus smears mud on a blind man’s eyes. When

the man washes off the mud, his sight is healed.

Some people rejoice that the blind man can see,

and others are upset because Jesus broke the

Sabbath to heal him.

Visit www.usccb.org/bible/readings to read next

Sunday’s Scripture.

In Church:

Instruct the members of your family to close their

eyes for part of the Mass. Encourage them to pay

attention to things they can smell, taste, hear,

and feel. After Mass, discuss what you observed

when you couldn’t see.

Question of the Week:

If you were blind and could suddenly see, who or

what would you be most excited to see?

Family Prayer:

God, open our eyes so that we will see you in all

of Creation. Amen

MARCH 15, 2020 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

There is no greater love than a mother’s love. How

many times have you heard this? Jesus gave us His

mother, Mary, so we too can share her unwavering

love for Him.

Mary, the Mother of our Lord, the Mother of our

Church, is a gift that we need every day. Through

her intercession, our love for Jesus Christ can

grow and fulfill His wish for us, an eternal life with

Him.

Her faith is a lesson to all of us, just as she

told the waiters at the wedding when the wine

was gone, “Do as He tells you”. She teaches us

to believe wholeheartedly in her son,

to trust Him.

To learn more about Mary, please join us for

one of our pilgrimages we are celebrating this

summer. Here is some of the information:

May 16th - featured speaker is Rev. William Korte.

Fr. Korte will be speaking about Mary, a model

for all women.

June 20th - Fr. Anthony Viviano will be our

speaker. He is a composer and will be sharing

some of his songs with us.

Sept. 26th – Fr. Joseph Kelly is our featured

speaker. His talk will include “Our Lady of

Guadalupe”.

We need volunteers to work the pilgrimages, if you

are interested please call the office at

(573) 374-6279.

Please don’t forget the Mother’s Shrine

during the winter months.

Please use the blue border envelopes.

Make checks payable to:

The Mothers Shrine

176 Marian Drive

Laurie, MO. 65037

We also have auto draft forms available.

We can email, mail you one, or you are

welcome to stop by and pick it up at

the office.

Our number is (573) 374-6279.

We will be having a meeting in April to prepare

for the summer Masses at the Shrine. If you

are interested in helping, please call me to put you

on the list. Thank you and God bless.
