LETTER FROM YOUR PASTOR
The Stations of the Cross
Staying on the topic of indulgences since they are incredible signs of God’s
mercy, I would like to mention another way in which a plenary indulgence can
be obtained. The Stations of the Cross. Yes, it’s a centuries-old way to re-
member and meditate on Our Lord’s Passion and Death. The Church grants
those making the Stations of the Cross along with the three conditions that
was mentioned in the last bulletin the possibility of obtaining a plenary indul-
gence.
The most obvious and easiest method is during the season of Lent by the par-
ticipation in the group Stations of the Cross. In this case persons stay in the
locations while a priest moves from station to station.
However, this can also be done personally in the Church at any time even
outside the season of Lent. In this case the individual moves from one station
to another meditating on the particular station or by reciting a prayer from a
guide.
And if a person is physically can’t make the Way of the Cross by walking to
each one either in a church or outdoors, not to worry. The church states:
“Those legitimately impeded can acquire the same indulgence, if they spend
some time, e.g., at least a quarter of an hour, in reading and meditating on the
Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.” That brings in Scripture. And
remember there are various kinds of booklets with the Way of the Cross to
help you do this also, with pictures to help. One of the most popular was com-
posed by St. Alphonsus Liguori.
Such a gift of this plenary indulgence from the Church can be gained once a
day. It promotes heading to church more than on Sunday. Maybe daily for
those who can. Or at least during some extra times during the week. This is a
Lenten sacrifice that’s tiny compared to the inestimable spiritual benefits you
can gain for yourself and for souls in purgatory. God bless you all abundantly
with his mercy during this season of Lent.

PARISH NEWS COVID-19 RECOMMENDATIONS
With an increasing focus on the COVID-19 around the world, we wanted to assure
you that our team continues to monitor the situation. Without causing alarm, we be-
lieve it is prudent to remind you of our customary health precautions whenever there
is an outbreak.
Our response to this spreading virus must reflect how we, as disciples of Jesus, love
our neighbor and love God. In caring for all members of our community — especially
the elderly and the vulnerable — we are carrying out the mission of the church. We
must do our part to help prevent the spread of the virus.
We strongly urge you to read and follow these recommendations out of an abun-
dance of caution:
1. If you are sick or feel you are getting sick, stay at home and do NOT attend
Mass. Missing Mass due to illness is not sinful; it is prudent and shows care for
your brothers and sisters.
2. During Mass, at the Sign of Peace, simply say, “Peace be with you,” instead of
offering your hand.
3. During Communion, the Eucharist will only be offered in your hand, rather than
on your tongue. Additionally, we will refrain from offering the Precious Blood
from the chalice at this time.
4. You will notice that we have drained the holy water in the church, until further
notice. Please simply bless yourself with the sign of the cross as you enter and
exit the church.
5. Please practice respiratory etiquette and good health hygiene with these recom-
mendations from the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/
prevention-treatment.html)
Thank you for your attention to these important health precautions. These changes
are temporary and should not disrupt the celebration of the Mass. Please let us know
if you have any questions.

“PEACE OF HEART” YOUNG ADULT PALM SUNDAY RETREAT When April 3-5
Led by Fr. Thomas Aquinas Pickett, O.P.
Long confused with an absence of conflict,
tranquility, and stillness, peace of heart is
a mysterious moral and spiritual phenome-
non that easily escapes the grasp of con-
temporary men and women. And yet, the
busier and noisier our lives become, the
more we seek this elusive source of re-
freshment. In this retreat, Fr. Thomas
Aquinas will guide an investigation into the
nature of peace of heart; bringing to bear
not only the thought of St. Thomas Aqui-
nas, but a number of saints, theologians,
and philosophers. Participants will be chal-
lenged to wrestle with their vices, strength-
en their virtues, and commit themselves to
a determined pursuit of union with God.
Fr. Pickett is originally from Ellensburg,
and was ordained in 2018. He currently
serves at Blessed Sacrament in Seattle as
the Director of Faith Formation & Evange-
lization.
