Lent has begun! Today, we celebrate the First Sunday of Lent. It was wonderful to see so many people come for the masses of Ash Wednesday. Let’s keep the “zeal” alive throughout the 40 days of this beau ful season of renewal and repentance. Perhaps most importantly, prepare yourself during Lent to make a good Confession of your sin in prepara on for Easter. Especially if you have been away from the Sacrament for a while, let this Lent be your reason for return! Come and encounter the forgiveness and mercy of God in this wonderful Sacrament. Jesus is wai ng for you with great love. Through works of prayer, fas ng, and almsgiving, pillars of the Chris an life throughout the year, we intensify in our efforts at these tradi onal disciplines during Lent so that we are more faithful and they are more integral to the good Chris an life. Prayer is simply put, conversa on with God. To love Him we have to know him. Almsgiving is a sacrifice of self for the sake of others, for love of God. In order for a true alms to be made, you give un l you no ce that you’re giving. Sacrifice is key to almsgiving. Fas ng emp es us out so that God can fill us up. It enables us to realize and “feel” our dependence on God. You have to admit, nowadays, more than candy (which many young people tradi onally give-up for Lent), technology is more of a distrac on. Perhaps at least at the dinner table, everyone should put their phone in a basket, away from the table. What will you really miss?... and what will you gain?... Lent is a me to make honest sacrifices of love for Jesus. To learn to know, appreciate and embrace HIS suffering for you. Together, let’s have a good Lent. Give Jesus your heart, and He will give you Heaven!

¡La Cuaresma ha comenzado! Hoy celebramos el primer domingo de Cuaresma. Fue maravilloso ver a tanta gente venir a las misas del Miércoles de Ceniza. Mantengamos vivo el "entusiasmo" durante los 40 días de esta hermosa temporada de renovación y arrepen miento. Quizás lo más importante, prepárate durante la Cuaresma para hacer una buena confesión de tu pecado en preparación para la Pascua. Especialmente si has estado lejos del Sacramento por un empo, ¡deja que esta Cuaresma sea tu razón de regreso! Ven y encuentra el perdón y la misericordia de Dios en este maravilloso Sacramento. Jesús te espera con gran amor. A través de obras de oración, ayuno y limosna, pilares de la vida cris ana a lo largo del año, intensificamos nuestros esfuerzos en estas disciplinas tradicionales durante la Cuaresma para que seamos más fieles y sean más integrales a la buena vida cris ana. La oración es simplemente, conversación con Dios. Para amarlo tenemos que conocerlo. La limosna es un sacrificio de sí mismo por el bien de los demás, por amor a Dios. Para que se haga una limosna verdadera, das hasta que te des cuenta de que estás dando. El sacrificio es clave para dar limosna. El ayuno nos vacía para que Dios pueda llenarnos. Nos permite darnos cuenta y "sen r" nuestra dependencia de Dios. Hay que admi r que hoy en día, más que dulces (que muchos jóvenes tradicionalmente renuncian a la Cuaresma), la tecnología es más una distracción. Quizás al menos en la mesa, todos deberían poner su teléfono en una canasta, lejos de la mesa. ¿Qué extrañarás realmente ... y qué ganarás? ... La Cuaresma es un empo para hacer sacrificios honestos de amor por Jesús. Para aprender a conocer, apreciar y abrazar SU sufrimiento por . Juntos, tengamos una buena Cuaresma. ¡Dale a Jesús tu corazón y Él te dará el cielo!
