Masthead Ideas

SOAP

4UWE

SOAPS

By utilizing this magazine masthead name, I am automatically building a personal relationship (Katz) with the reader as the colloquial used of ‘We’ portrays a sense of unity with the audience as both the magazine and the audience share a common interest in soap opera.

Red/White: This colour scheme is seen as unorthodox upon the world of soap however has appeared to be a success for various other magazines such as ‘XXL’.

I think this is a standard and basic idea for a Soap Opera Magazine. It tells you exactly what it is and directly addresses the audience, and entices the audience to read the magazine. This will make them feel more inclined to purchase the magazine.

Main headline ideas

Kidnapper Queries

This headline would grab the attention of the reader because of the use of a short, bold, 2 word heading suggests drama and would encourage a reader to look at it. The use of spoken alliteration means that when a viewer reads the title

Who's The Kidnapper

This headline will draw in the reader due to the audience wanting to know what is going on. It makes them think who actually is the ‘Kidnapper’ and make them want to buy the magazine to know when then episode is on and hopefully find out. The use of capitalization of the words in the headline connote that this is the soap you have to watch this week and in the coming weeks due to it covering most of the page.

Loss in Langley Vale

The verbal code of this headline highlights both the soap opera title itself and the fact that someone may be missing. This is effective as it draws the audience in on the basis of a soap they may know and be interested in and the fact that something is occurring. The repetition of the letter ‘L’ emphasises

Use of punctuation- Suggests shock

Images needed

Mid and close up shots of the main characters. They need to be related to the stories on the front cover.

Main Image: Suitable for the main headline- Lola KIDNAPS Lexi! these characters are then presented on the front cover. This draws more attention to the main feature story.

In order to create my magazine I will need to arrange for pictures to be taken these will need to be as high quality as possible as it will help make my magazine look professional and appeal to the target audience.

Language

Strapline Language: Similarly the strapline has to include different buzz words and other enticing language. The strapline is used to create recognition of the new soap magazine brand that needs to stand out from the rest of the current magazines.’

Puff Promotion: Buzz Words: It is evident that on many soap opera magazines there is an evident use of enticing language in order to draw the attention of the reader. Some of these words include ‘Exclusive’, ‘Revealed’, and ‘Secret’. By using language such as this the audience is enticed into reading about that soap in the magazine as they want a preview into this week’s line up of soaps.

Strapline • ‘ALL THE STORIES! ALL THE GOSSIP EVERY WEEK’. This will connote to the audience that my magazine has every story for all the soaps. Also it lets the audience know that my magazine is issued weekly. • The language used should be short and straight top the point. This makes it easier for the audience to read and understand what is included in my magazine.

Synergy (social media)

Synergy With Social Media: Facebook and Twitter: When designing my new soap magazine, I need to take into consideration how I want to appeal to a wider audience. I can do this by incorporating the social media logos onto the page in order to potentially appeal to a younger audience who are always on their phones.

This connotes to the reader that they don’t have to buy the magazine as they can go on their ‘Facebook’, ‘Twitter’ or ‘Instagram’ page and read all the gossip OR broaden their understanding with further exclusives not published in the magazine such as interviews with the cast answering questions from viewers and photos of behind the scene.
