Operation Christmas Child is the biggest mission

event of the year for St. Mark. Each year we collect

and send out over 100 shoeboxes filled with great

items for children all over the world!

From setting up on November 5th, packing on

November 6th, delivering the boxes and tracking

where they go all over the world, this is a great feat!

How can you get in on the fun? Well...

Even though Martin Luther is considered one of

the most influential and important persons in

history (in the top 10… Biography, Time…) he

never wanted the “Reformation Church” to be

named after him. He said it should be called the

“Evangelical Church” (meaning the place to hear

about the Good News). Indeed, that is what it is

called in Germany.

However, when Christians came to America, the

followers of Luther wanted to distinguish

themselves from the Catholics, Protestants and

“Evangelicals”, such as the Baptists, Methodists,

Pentecostals... So, they took on the name

“Lutherans” - which is to be identified as the

people who love the Bible and live Faithfully by

Grace Alone.

The Minneapolis Institute of Art has been selected

to host the Martin Luther, Art and the

Reformation Exhibit, which is the largest in the

world. The entire Luther Hall from Wittenberg

and artifacts from the historical area have been

brought to America, while “Luther Land” gets

ready for the Grand 500th Anniversary of the

Reformation in 2017.

Let’s go to see this incredibly interesting exhibit!

We are going to join some of our neighboring

churches in this social/educational opportunity.

The exhibit is open from now until January.

This is our legacy, which continues to change the

World. There will be a number of media

presentations and specials on TV coming up to

inspire us. Give me a call and let’s talk about and

Greetings. The Council continues to be active within their action teams (Mission, Education, Worship, Property, Liturgical and Congregational Liaison and the Board).

During the month of October we attempted to host a number of “Cottage Meetings” in which all of our members were invited to attend. A follow up letter will be going out before the end of the year in which we will outline the ideas we heard at those meetings. We thought that with the number of active members and friends we have, we would need to hold around seven meetings. The response was certainly much less than we had hoped for and therefore we held only two sessions. It is and has been our strong desire to hear from all of you with regard to the events, programs and activities at Saint Mark along with engaging in a discussion about our future.

I have attempted to share what we have been working on as a council but if for any reason you have questions or our efforts are not at all clear to you, PLEASE talk to me. We are committed to finding the best path for our future and in order to do that, we need input from everyone.

We have a strong history at Saint Mark of “getting things done” but of course that takes the time and energy of many. We staff our fund raisers with volunteers but we also manage to accomplish the work of the council, the action teams, the choir, the altar guild, readers and ushers, maintenance, education and so many more items with volunteers as well.

We need you.

We need your ideas.

We need your time and talents and we need your prayers.

Thanks,

Jackie Brueggemann
