    Becoming Friends of Peru

The Friends of Peru Childrens Home had a different

beginning than most childrens homes run by Kids

Alive. Andahuaylas is in one of the most impoverishedprovinces of Peru. Many people live with so littleresources in the rural areas that children are often

unable to regularly attend school and often sufferfrom malnutrition. Rather than opening its doors to...

    Milagros

Meet Milagros, a recent highschool graduate from the Friendsof Peru Home in Andahuaylas.Having entered the Home at itsinception five years ago she re-cently accepted Christ as herSavior and will be baptized soon.

Currently she is studying to be achef. Milagros hopes to be ableto financially assist her singlemother and five younger siblings.

Move to the Juniper Tree Childrens HomeThe Lima Childrens Home officially moved this March.

Everyone was involved in packing the kids things and strap-

ping the kids in. Mixed emotions were evident upon leavingwhat had been their Home for most of their lives andmoving into a new place. The new Juniper Tree Childrens

Home, in Pachacamac, will be a very different place for thekids. Pachacamac is a smaller town and they(Continued on page #2)

...only the orphaned, abandoned or abused, the Home also welcomes kids living inextreme poverty who are unable to regularlyattend school or eat properly. The Homestarted in the directors house where the

children lived during the school week andwould return to family on the weekends. Thedirectors house is almost 200 years old so

the local government wants the children in anewer facility. We are not allowed to fully care for the childrens needs until we get

several things in place at the new site. Currently, the children attend each day at thenew site for after-school homework help, spiritual encouragement and a nutritious meal.

Thanks to some generous donors, a wall is now being put around the perimeter of theproperty. The 1st housing unit is complete but the finish work on the 2nd and 3rd unitshas greatly slowed due to a lack of funding. The paperwork is advancing and we hope tohave the government approvals to have children on the new site in the coming months.

    The ministry also hosts bimonthly

Bible studies with a group ofmoms. The moms love getting to-gether to study Gods Word and

learn to make handicrafts. It isamazing to see their thirst forGods Word and how many of

them spend their free timestudying their Bibles at home.

(Becoming Friends: Continued from page 1)

(Move: Continued from page 1)...are attending new schools and a new church. The biggest change of all is that theyare living in family-style housing units, rather than sharing the same dining room, kitchen and play areas. Immediately after the move the children had a new sense offamily and even ownership over their homes. When leaving for the first day of schoolone of the younger children asked the Home director to watch over his house for him.

Cant Break This Smile! - by Shannon EatonIt takes more than a broken arm to wipe the smile off his face! While climbing a large hill Gabriel* slipped and fell. He completedseveral impressive somersaults before attempting to stop himself. He indeed stopped himself but only after fracturing his arm inthree places. Gabriel needed two pins and wore a cast for over amonth and a half, not to mention several stitches in his arm andhead. The stitches were removed first and the cast and pins fol-lowed more recently. We thank the Lord that it was not more seri-

ous. Please pray that his physical therapy will be successful.

Helping to Make a Successful Transition

Thank you so much for making our transition to theJuniper Tree successful. Thanks to your generous gifts,we were able to purchase and install many things thatwere needed :

    Special Thanks

Thank you so much to the teams fromCalvary Baptist Church (Oshawa, ON)

and Peoples Church (Wyoming, ON) for your hard work to help make the big move to theJuniper Tree Childrens Home possible. These teams completed much of the electrical,

tiling and plumbing work as well as some much needed landscaping.

    Why The Juniper Tree?

In I Kings 19 Elijahfled for his life intothe wilderness afterhis famous showdown

with the prophets ofBaal. It was under aJuniper Tree, discouraged, scared andalone, that he took refuge and theangel of the Lord ministered to him. From the rest and nourishment Elijahreceived there, it says that he hadstrength to travel 40 days and nightsto Horeb where he spoke with God!

Our prayer is that, like the JuniperTree was to Elijah, this Home will be aplace where orphaned, abandoned andabused children can be lovinglyprovided with the physical, emotional, educational and spiritual nourishmentneeded to sustain them for the rest oftheir lives and that they too wouldsense Gods presence with them.

Directors DeliberationsDesperate for help, our constructionstaff even allowed me to lay some tile.Incredibly the Lord pulled everythingtogether so that the kids could moveinto the Juniper Tree in early March. Itwould have been impossible without eve-

ryone (even the kids) physically helping with the move, withouthelp with last minute tiling and plumbing, without hard workfrom teams over the last year as well as generous donations.

Just as God used people of all types of personalities, strengths, abilities, and social standing to get the JuniperTree ready, so He does to advance His kingdom in other areas. We just did some personality testing of all the staff and mis-

sionaries and it is a wonder we get on with each other at all! Itis neat to see how God has wired others so differently yet weall have the same desire to glorify Him and rescue children atrisk. Thanks for being an integral part of our team!
