What is MyPlate

• Part of communications initiative based on 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans to help consumers make better food choices

• Designed to remind Americans to eat healthfully

• Illustrates the five food groups using a familiar mealtime visual, a place setting

FRUIT

• Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the Fruit Group. – fresh, canned, frozen, dried

VEGETABLES• Any vegetable or 100% vegetable

juice counts as a member of the Vegetable Group. – fresh– frozen– canned– dried– dehydrated

GRAINS• Any food made from wheat, rice,

oats, cornmeal, barley or another cereal grain is a grain product.

• Whole grains VS Refined grains• At least half of all the grains eaten
