GETTING STARTED

2.1 BEFORE SWITCHING ONBefore switching the appliance on pleasefamiliarise yourself with:● how to isolate the appliance from the gas, water

and electricity supplies;● how to check and top-up – if necessary – the

system water pressure;● any external thermostats/time switches and

their functions;● the appliance controls.

2.2 APPLIANCE CONTROLS (see fig. 1)The appliance controls are concealed behindthe front cover. To gain access to the controlssimply push-in the release button to open thecover. The appliance is equipped with a simplecontrol panel that can be used to alter or controlthe following functions:● ON/OFF selection;● mode of operation;● the outlet flow temperature to the central heating

system;● the outlet temperature for domestic hot water. In addition, the large LCD display shows the statusof the appliance:● current mode of operation;● current appliance temperature;● current temperatures selected;● current system water pressure. The system water pressure display shows thecurrent pressure of the system, andWhen theappliance is operating the display may rise or fall, this is quite normal. The minimum permissiblelevel for the safe and efficient operation of theappliance is 0.6 BAR. Should the pressure fallbelow 0.6 BAR, the boiler may lockout.Depending on the type of controls specified byyour installer you may have an external time clockor programmer fitted, please refer to the instruc-tions supplied with such.

2.3 LIGHTING THE BOILEREnsure the gas and electrical supply to the boilerare turned on.Using figure 1 as a guide, locate and press the ON/OFF selection button if the appliance isn’t alreadyswitched on. The boiler will now go through a self-test sequence. On completion of the self-testsequence, the boiler will be ready to provideheating and/or hot water if required.

2.3.1 MODES OF OPERATIONWhen the appliance is switched on one of fourmodes of operation can be selected:● summer;● spring;● autumn;● winter.

SummerWhen the summer mode is selected, the appli-ance will respond to requests for Domestic HotWater (DHW). In the summer mode the TSC(Temperature Stability Control) function is active. All heating requests will be ignored.

SpringWhen the spring mode is selected, the appliancewill respond to requests for Domestic Hot Water(DHW). All heating requests will be ignored.AutumnWhen the autumn mode is selected, the appliancewill respond to requests for DHW and/or heating.During the autumn mode, the SARA function(Automatic Temperature Control), and the TSC(Temperature Stability Control) are active.WinterWhen the winter mode is selected, the appliancewill respond to requests for DHW and/or heating.During the winter mode, the booster function andpre-heat function are active.

2.3.2 FUNCTIONS●●●●● TSC: when the TSC function is active (sum-

mer/autumn) the appliance may over-ride theselected DHW temperature in order to maintaintemperature stability.

● SARA: when the SARA function is active (au-tumn) and the selected heating temperature isset between 55o – 65oC, the appliance willautomatically raise the heating outlet tempera-ture when the selected set temperature cannotbe achieved or maintained.

● BOOSTER: when the booster function is active(winter), the appliance will automatically raisethe heating outlet temperature when the se-lected set temperature cannot be achieved ormaintained.

● PRE-HEAT: when the pre-heat function is active(winter), the appliance will periodically heat theDHW heat exchanger to reduce waiting timeduring DHW requests.

● FROST PROTECTION: the frost protectionfunction is active at all times even when theappliance ON/OFF selector is at OFF. Shouldthe temperature fall to 6 oC, the boiler will oper-ate to reduce the risk of frost damage.

●●●●● ANTI-BLOCK: the anti-block function is activeat all times even when the appliance ON/OFFselector is at OFF. Should the appliance beinactive for 19-hours, both the pump and divertorvalve actuator will be energised for a short periodto reduce the risk of component seizure.

NOTEThe frost protection and anti-block functions arereliant on the appliance having a permanentelectrical supply, and being in a non-fault condition.

2.3.3 HEATING REQUESTWhen there is a demand for heating via the timeclock etc, the boiler will go through an ignitionsequence, whereby the burner will light. When the appliance reaches the set temperature, the burner will go off for minimum period of approxi-mately 5 minutes. When the programmer/time clock or external ther-mostats heating request has been satisfied, theappliance will switch off automatically.

2.3.4 HOT WATER REQUESTWhen a hot water outlet or tap is opened, theboiler senses water flow and initiates an ignitionsequence. The boiler will modulate the output ac-cording to the temperature required, when the hotwater request has been satisfied, the boiler maycontinue to operate if the pre-heat function isactive.NOTEIf the appliance fails to ignite during the ignitionsequence, it will re-attempt ignition several timesbefore going to a lockout condition. Should thisoccur, please allow a period of two minutes beforere-setting.

2.4 ADJUSTING THE OPERATING TEMPERA-TURES (see fig.1)The temperature selector knobs can be rotated toincrease or decrease the currently selected tem-peratures. The display will show any increase ordecrease relative to the corresponding selectorknob.

2.4.1 ADJUSTING THE CENTRAL HEATING TEM-PERATURES (see fig.1)If an outside temperature sensor is not connectedto the boiler the heating selector can be adjustedbetween 20 °C and 80 °C.

If an outside temperature sensor is connected to

the boiler ( on) the central heating temperatureis automatically calculated from the boiler in orderto have a room temperature of 20 °C. It is possibleto adjust this value with the heating selector knobfrom - 5 °C up to + 5 °C.

2.4.2 ADJUSTING THE HOT WATER TEMPERA-TURES (see fig.1)The hot water selector can be adjusted between35° and 60 °C.

2.5 DIGITAL DISPLAYThe digital display shows the current mode ofoperation and/or status of the boiler.Should a fault develop, the display will show aunique fault code that can be used to help rectifythe cause of the fault.Should a fault code be displayed, check thefault code table to identify the cause and courseof action to take.Always wait 2-minutes before pressing thereset button.

HOW TO...

3.1 HOW TO TOP-UP THE SYSTEM PRESSURE(fig. 4)The system pressure must be checked periodi-cally to ensure the correct operation of the boiler. The display should ideally be reading between0.6 (minimum) and 1.5 (maximum) when theboiler is in an off position and has cooled to roomtemperature. If the pressure requires ‘topping-up’use the following instructions as a guide.● Locate the filling valve connections (beneath

the boiler).● Attach the filling loop to both connections.● Open the filling valve slowly until you hear water

entering the system.● Close the filling valve when the displayed pres-

sure (on the boiler) reads between 1 and 1.5.● Remove the filling loop from the connections.

3.2 HOW TO RESET THE APPLIANCEWhen the display is flashing, or when the reseticon is shown, the appliance will require to bereset manually. Before resetting the boiler ensurethat the displayed pressure is indicating the cor-rect level. Allow a period of two minutes to elapsebefore pressing the reset button.

IMPORTANTIf the appliance requires to be reset frequently, itmay be indicative of a fault, please contact yourinstaller or Vokera Customer Services for furtheradvice.

3.3 HOW TO SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEM FORSHORT PERIODSThe system and boiler can be shut down for shortperiods by simply turning the time clock to the offposition. It is also advisable to turn off the mainwater supply to the house.

3.4 HOW TO SHUT DOWN THE SYSTEM FORLONG PERIODSIf the house is to be left unoccupied for any lengthof time – especially during the winter – the systemshould be thoroughly drained of all water. The gas, water, and electricity supply to the houseshould also be turned off. For more detailedadvice contact your installer.

3.5 HOW TO CARE FOR THE APPLIANCETo clean the outer casing use only a clean dampcloth. Do not use any scourers or abrasive clean-ers.

3.6 HOW TO REGULATE THE HOT WATER TEM-PERATUREUsually your installer will have adjusted the hotwater output to suit your requirements, howeverif you would like to adjust the outlet temperature, please follow the instructions in section 2.4.
