Linda Pikula, NOAA For IODE OceanTeacher Workshop Disaster Planning and Recovery,
Oostende, Be. May 23-27, 2011
Does Everyone know what week this is?I would like to remind everyone this is Hurricane
Awareness Week. Every year, new people arrive in south Florida, but few have any experience with tropical cyclones. It is necessary to continue our education efforts with the public every hurricane season to inaugurate the newcomers but also encourage the 'old hands' not to become complacent.
Our local news media will be publishing or broadcasting informational material related to hurricane preparedness over the next two weeks as we lead into the season.

Disaster Response: NOAA Ships, Planes, and Officers Offer Valuable Capabilities
Services to Employees:The EAP is available to assist in natural disasters, such as
the devastating tornadoes and floods that have caused widespread damage across the South and Midwest. If you or a family member has been impacted by these recent disasters and are dealing with the emotional aftermath, contact an EAP professional who is available to provide support, referrals and information on a wide range of emergency resources.
In addition to counseling services, the EAP program provides information, problem solving, coaching, resources identification, and support to both NOAA managers and employees. Financial and legal consultations are offered on issues such as living wills, estate planning, healthcare power of attorney, investment strategies, housing matters, and family law (divorce, child custody and child support).
