LifeGate Church GROW Leadership Pipeline LifeGate Church GROW Leadership Pipeline As leadership skills increase and responsibility for the Vision grows, personal rights decrease. At the same time, Kingdom Influence grows in reverse proportion to personal rights. As we lay down our personal rights for what benefits the Kingdom, and as we increase our leadership skills, our level of Kingdom Influence rises. (John 3:30; 1 Corinthians 10:2223) Each leadership level (from 1, which is leading yourself, to 6, which is establishing and overseeing large scale vision) has welldefined Biblical expectations and skill sets. Every leadership position at LifeGate denotes the leadership level expected for that position. As we accomplish the expectations and acquire the skills for each level, our opportunities to serve others increase and our Kingdom authority grows. (Daniel 6:3; Luke 22:26) It is our goal at LifeGate for every member to fulfill the potential God has placed in each of us. The most fulfilling life is one spent serving others in the Kingdom of God. When we increase our personal leadership skills, we “raise the lid” on the possibilities in every area of our lives. In other words, just as our influence increases with the decrease of our personal rights, our satisfaction with our life will increase in direct proportion to our ability to lead as defined by the Word of God. (Psalm 73:24; Proverbs 29:2; Matthew 6:33) Personal Rights Rich and Satisfying Life Kingdom Influence

LifeGate  Church  GROW  Leadership  Pipeline  As  leadership  skills  increase  and  responsibility  for  the  Vision  grows,  personal  rights  decrease.    At  the  same

time,  Kingdom  Influence  grows  in  reverse  proportion  to  personal  rights.    As  we  lay  down  our  personal  rights  for  what  benefits  the  Kingdom,  and  as  we  increase  our  leadership  skills,  our  level  of  Kingdom  Influence  rises.      (John  3:30;  1  Corinthians  10:22-‐23)

Each  leadership  level  (from  1,  which  is  leading  yourself,  to  6,  which  is  establishing  and  overseeing  large  scale  vision)  has  well-‐defined  Biblical  expectations  and  skill  sets. (Daniel  6:3;  Luke  22:26)

It  is  our  goal  at  LifeGate  for  every  member  to  fulfill  the  potential  God  has  placed  in  each  of  us. (Psalm  73:24;  Proverbs  29:2;  Matthew  6:33)

LifeGate  Church  GROW  Leadership  Pipeline  Overview       Jesus  focused  the  great  majority  of  His  time  on  earth  on  two  groups  of  people:  the  lost  and  leaders.      Hebrews  13:8  tells  us  He  has  not  changed  so  He  is  still  focusing  much  on  His  attention  on  the  lost  and  leaders.    After  accepting  Jesus  as  our  Lord,  we  need  to  make  the  move  from  the  lost  group  to  the  leader  group.    He  has  called  us  and  filled  us  with  His  Spirit.    When  you  give  attention  to  increasing  your  leadership  skills,  you  are  partnering  with  Jesus  and  you  are  destined  to  win!    As  a  servant-‐leader,  when  you  win,  those  with  whom  you  have  influence  win,  and  the  Kingdom  wins!    That’s  exactly  what  the  writer  of  Proverbs  meant  when  he  wrote  “When  the  righteous  rule,  the  people  rejoice…:

In  Revelation  1:5-‐6  we  are  told  that  Jesus  has  “made  us  kings  and  priests  unto  our  God”.    Kings  lead  and  priests  connect.    So  Jesus  has  made  us  to  be  “leaders  and  connectors”.    The  LGC  Leadership  Pipeline  is  designed  to  provide  you  the  training  and  tools  to  do  that  effectively.    It  is  based  on  Jesus’  principle  of  “be  faithful  in  the  small  things  and  you  will  be  given  authority  in  big  things.”

We  have  identified  six  Biblical  “leadership  levels”.    The  first  three—lead  yourself,  lead  others  and  lead  leaders—are  essential  for  living  the  life  you  were  intended  to  live  as  a  Christian.    We  believe  they  are  the  “Next  Steps”  in  moving  from  followers  of  Christ  to  disciples.    Lead  yourself  well  and  you  will  gain  influence  with  others.    Lead  others  well  and  you  will  gain  influence  with  leaders.

Then  the  next  3  levels  begin:  When  you  are  faithful  in  leading  leaders,  we  are  given  authority  over  strategies.    When  we  lead  strategic  areas  well,  we  are  given  authority  over  the  missions  those  strategies  seek  to  accomplish.    When  we  are  faithful  and  fruitful  as  mission  leaders,  we  are  given  the  responsibility  of  overseeing  large  visionary  areas.

No  matter  if  you  simply  desire  to  increase  your  “self-‐leadership”  or  learn  to  effectively  lead  as  a  LifeGate  Campus  Pastor,  the  LGC  GROW  Leadership  Pipeline  will  empower  you  to  live  the  life  you  were  intended  to  live,  the  rich  and  satisfying  life  Jesus  came  to  give  us.

The  following  pages  provide  a  detailed  breakdown  of  each  level  of  the  LifeGate  Leadership  Pipeline.      Each  level  consists  of  the  following:

1) Expectations:  These  are  specific  criteria  that  each  individual  must  complete  before  advancing  to  the  next  level.      Note:    Any  expectation  denoted  with,  “*”,  is  expected  to  be  done  at  least  once  a  year                                (regardless  of  which  level  you  are  currently  at).

2) Skillset:  Each  of  these  skills  should  be  evident  in  your  life  as  you  progress  to  the  next  level.  3) LifeGate  Opportunities:  These  are  different  areas  of  ministry  at  LifeGate  Church  that  are

available  at  each  level.  4) Suggested  Resources:  We  believe  that  each  of  these  resources  will  help  you  increase  your

skillset  at  each  level,  which  will,  in  turn,  help  you,  progress  through  the  pipeline.    All  resources  denoted  with,  “  1”,  have  study  guides  available  which  highlight  important  principles.  Note:    Any  resource  denoted  with,  “**”,  is  a  secular  resource.    We  feel  there  are  valuable

lessons  to  be  learned  from  these,  but  we  do  not  endorse  everything  that  is  communicated  or  the  style  in  which  it  is  communicated.

The  last  two  pages  of  this  document  consist  of  a  personal  checklist  for  you  to  keep  track  of  where

you  are  in  the  pipeline.    While  you  will  be  proceeding  through  the  pipeline  at  your  own  pace,  we  at  LGC  will  be  here  to  assist  you  in  any  way  we  can.    We  will  regularly  monitor  where  you  stand  in  the  pipeline,  and  we  will  ensure  you  have  all  the  necessary  resources  to  progress.       To  get  started,  please  fill  out  the  checklist  at  the  back  of  this  document.    Please  mark  all  expectations  you  have  completed  to  determine  your  present  level  in  the  pipeline.    Please  return  this  checklist  within  one  week,  but  remember  to  keep  a  copy  for  yourself  to  track  your  progress.

Overcoming  the  Fear  of  Leadership:

Many  people  get  stopped  in  their  tracks  by  the  fear  of  leadership,  and  that  stops  them  from  reaching  the  heights  that  God  has  in  store  for  them.      Let’s  break  down  this  fear  before  it  starts,  so  we  can  get  it  out  of  our  minds  and  move  on  to  what  God  has  for  us.    Did  you  know  there  really  is  no  such  thing  as  a  fear  of  “leadership?”    A  fear  of  “leadership,”  boils  down  to  a  fear  of  failure,  a  fear  of  rejection,  or  a  fear  of  not  having  all  the  answers.    Now,  we  know  what  fears  to  deal  with,  so  how  do  we  move  past  them?

Fear  of  Failure:  Stop  viewing  failure  as  a  bad  thing.    It  happens  to  all  of  us,  and  there’s  no  reason  to  let  it  hold  you  down.    The  only  people  that  never  fail  are  the  ones  who  are  doing  nothing  and  attempting  nothing  new.    Learn  to  view  failure  as  an  opportunity  for  growth,  rather  than  something  that  sets  you  back.    Any  failure  is  teaching  us  something  that  we  can  do  better  the  next  time  around.    Begin  to  look  at  failures  as  a  necessary  progression  towards  reaching  your  full  potential  as  a  leader.    Learn  to  “Fail  Forward.”

Fear  of  Rejection:    Keep  in  mind  that  it’s  not  all  about  you.    Any  fear  of  rejection  indicates  we  are  more  concerned  with  ourselves  and  our  feelings  than  the  people  we  are  leading.    Keep  things  in  perspective  and  remember  we  are  here  to  serve  others.    When  you  adjust  your  thinking  to  become  others-‐focused,  the  fear  of  rejection  will  disappear.    Just  remember,  as  servant-‐leaders,  you  are  doing  it  for  the  good  of  someone  other  than  yourself.

Fear  of  Not  Having  the  Answers:  Take  the  pressure  off  of  yourself.    As  a  leader,  you  are  not  required  to  have  all  the  answers.    Your  job  is  to  ask  the  right  questions.    God  has  an  amazing  way  of  placing  the  right  people  around  us  and  the  answer  that  you  need  is  usually  in  the  room.    We,  as  leaders,  just  have  to  work  on  asking  the  right  questions  to  uncover  the  answer  or  point  us  in  the  right  direction.

Don’t  let  any  of  these  fears  slow  you  down.    Allow  God  to  make  the  necessary  adjustments  to  your  thinking,  so  that  you  can  continue  to  move  forward  in  everything  He  has  for  you.

Great  job!    You  have  made  it  through  Level  3…now  what?

The  step  from  Level  3  to  Level  4  is  one  of  the  largest  steps  in  the  Pipeline.    By  making  this  step,  you  will  be  taking  on  much  more  commitment,  but  I  guarantee  that  you  will  notice  substantial  opportunities  for  growth  along  the  way.    You  will  notice  the  following  differences  in  Levels  4  thru  6:

• The  number  of  expectations  and  skillsets  will  increase.    There  is  more  to  learn  at  each  of  these  levels,  but  your  leadership  potential  will  grow  by  leaps  and  bounds  as  you  progress.

• Most  people  who  move  to  these  levels  begin  to  recognize  a  specific  calling  that  God  has  placed  on  their  life,  and  many  of  them  will  discover  a  passion  for  full-‐time  vocational  ministry.

• Higher  standards  and  expectations  are  required  at  these  levels  due  to  the  higher  profile  ministry  roles  you  will  fulfill.    Keep  in  mind  that  we  are  a  reflection  of  our  church  and  our  Pastors  in  everything  that  we  do.

• All  Level  4  thru  6  leaders  are  High  Capacity  Leaders  (HCL),  or  are  in  the  process  of  becoming  one,    and  will  find  participation  in  the  monthly  GROW  Leadership  Group  beneficial  (held  on  the  1st  Sunday  evening  of  each  month  at  the  Revolve  Student  Campus).

Every  challenge  to  our  leadership  is  a  recognition  by  our  enemy  that  we  are  approaching  a  new  threshold  that  will  enlarge  our  influence  and,  as  a  result,  enlarge  the  Kingdom  of  God.    LifeGate  Church  has  a  goal  of  starting  at  least  one  campus  a  year  in  West  Georgia  and  East  Alabama.    That  means  we  need  a  lot  of  Level  4,  5  and  6  leaders.    I  encourage  you  to  keep  moving  forward  in  the  Pipeline  and  discover  all  that  God  has  for  you!
