RESPECT RESPONSIBILITY INTEGRITY [email protected] 1 THURSDAY 2 JUNE 2016 TERM 2 | WEEK 6 From the Principal’s Desk The weather has finally decided it needs to cool off, which is a nice relief. As a result we are all digging into our cupboards to find jumpers and other warmer items of clothing. A reminder that school jumpers are bottle green, not light green. They can be purchased both with the logo and without. Football jumpers are not to be worn to school. In addition children may wear green tracksuit pants and girls may wear green stockings. Black leggings are not part of the school uniform so please don’t wear them. Attached with today’s newsletter is a recent price list from our supplier Big River in Ballina. They do currently have some girls jersey knit pants on sale for $20. These are limited stock, so call in and see them if you require some of these. Please ensure that whenever you do purchase school clothing that you label every item. It is very difficult to return items to the correct owner when they all look the same. Congratulations Congratulations Bryn Walshaw who travelled to Sydney on the weekend to take part as one of the six finalists in the storytelling competition. He did very well and placed second an awesome achievement. Well done Bryn we are all very proud of you and we enjoyed listening to your story at assembly on Friday. No Assembly A reminder that there will be no weekly assembly this week, due to the Art Show being set up in the hall. In addition Year 3 will be tree planting at Lennox Headland to coincide with World Environment day, so will also not be at school. Children will also be participating in Zone Cross Country. Good luck to all competitors. Friday assemblies will resume next Friday 10 June at 12pm. Art Show Our annual art show in conjunction with the Lennox Lion’s club will be held this weekend on 3, 4 and 5 June. The art show will be open from 3:30pm on Friday 3 June. The cost to enter the art show will be a gold coin donation. There will be an official opening on the Friday evening; this will be for adults only. The entry cost on the Friday night is $5, which includes nibbles and a glass of wine. We encourage you all to come along and support one of our major fundraisers for the year. There will be artworks for sale, plus you may like to place a bid on one of the class artworks. I have seen many of these and they look fantastic! Don’t be afraid to bid high, you could secure yourself an excellent piece of artwork for your house and in turn raise much needed funds for your child’s school. We look forward to seeing you all at some stage over the weekend. Lennox Lookout WHAT’S COMING UP! More great sports news… Tyrel Kelly has been selected in the Far North Coast Boys Touch Football team while Brianna Watkins has been selected in the Far North Coast Girls Touch Football team. Both students will play in a carnival planned for Grafton later this month to trial for the respective State teams. Well done! New High School Update To best meet the educational needs of all students and to facilitate movement and retention of resources at Ballina HS the Staff and students of Ballina HS will be moved to the Southern Cross School site for the commencement of 2017. A detailed occupancy plan will be provided in the short term. Regards, Peter Campbell Reporting student absences If you are planning an event where an absence from school will be necessary please let the school know as early as possible. If trips away during school terms are unavoidable and longer than 10 days in duration, Dept Education (DoE) policy requests that families fill out an Application for Travel – Leave form. Legends of League Gala Day

On Wednesday Mr O’Rafferty took an 11 man squad to the Legends of League Gala Day at Ballina’s Kingsford Smith Oval. The boys took part in the annual 7 a side rugby league competition featuring teams from Lennox Head, Southern Cross, Ballina, Alstonville and Saint Francis Xavier. The boys from Lennox Head played 3 pool games throughout the day. Our first game was a beauty as we butted heads with our most recent rival, Alstonville. It was close early, before some bruising defence by Reece Noble that shut down the Alstonville attack. The class of Lennox’s attack shone through as our boys ran away to a 20-8 win.

Our second game was a one-sided affair against Saint Francis Xavier’s inexperienced 2nd team. In a great show of sportsmanship, some of Lennox’s Year 6 players made way for some of our Year 5 players to snare some more playing time – and our team leaders did a great job to share the spoils of victory with a handful of players bagging tries in the 28-4 win. In game three one of our hardest workers, Josh Young made a fantastic run to move Lennox out of our danger zone and looked to have broken the Southern Cross defensive line before he was brought down from behind. Josh was unlucky to land on his hand and suffered an injury to his thumb. The Lennox boys rallied around Josh to see him off the grounds and played on despite their worries for their friend. Lennox played with a lot of heart in this game, surviving a late surge by Southern Cross to retain a 8-4 lead at game’s end. With our third victory, Lennox Head booked a spot in the final and faced up against Saint Francis Xavier’s 1st team. With both teams heading into the game undefeated on the day, and a huge home crowd advantage to Saint Francis, the scene was set for a cracking final. Jai Glindeman led by example with some stout defence and gloss in attack, helping give Lennox Head the lead going into half-time. Shortly after the break, Saint Francis Xavier levelled up the game through some great play. Our team captain, Jedd Windle, then stepped up and made the run of the day – breaking through multiple defenders before streaking away from the chasers to touch down in the corner. The lead stayed at 12-8 until the final whistle, and the Lennox boys embraced each other as competition champions. Jai Glindeman earned himself some NRL prizes after a man of the match performance in the final. The Lennox Head 7’s team would like to give a huge thanks to Jason McCombie for his superb contribution as coach and again to all of the parents, caregivers and family members who came to support the team.
