Panthers Flatten Dassel-Cokato; Open Section Tourney ThursdayThe Scott West wrestling team

closed the regular season with a 56-18 win at Dassel-Cokato last Tuesday night (Feb. 3). The victory gives the Panthers a 12-2 dual meet record as they head into the Section 2AA Team Championships starting this Thursday night in Belle Plaine. The section Final Four will be held at Mankato East High School this Saturday be-ginning with the semifinals at 4 p.m. and the championship at 6 p.m.“We have had a pretty good

regular season overall,” states Scott West coach Darren Ripley. “However, what ultimately de-fines your season at Scott West is making it to the state tourna-ment and doing well there.”Scott West started well against

Dassel-Cokato as it jumped out to a 44-0 lead by winning the first eight weight classes. The meet started with the

return to wrestling action of eighth grade 106-pounder Ty-ler Shackle, who went right to work against Prestin Bradley as he took the Charger down and turned him with a bar arm to get a three-point near fall and a 5-0 first period lead. However, with the score 7-2 in favor of Shackle going into the third period, Bradley would mount a comeback by scoring three take downs before Shackle went on to close out the match with a 12-8 final take down just before the buzzer.“It was good to have Tyler

back in wrestling action,” com-ments Ripley. “He was a little tired there in the third period but that in a large part was due to the mat time that he has missed.”Scott West would not miss a

beat as it recorded five pin falls, a technical fall and a forfeit in the next seven weight classes to take that 44-0 lead over the Chargers. It was Parker Huss with a pin at 113 that was fol-lowed by a Jackson Stauffacher pin at 120. Carter Piche scored a 16-0 technical fall at 126 that was followed by a pin from Ben Kelvington at 132. After Ryan Siegle received a forfeit at 138, Dylan Johnson recorded a pin at 145 and Tyler Buesgens did the same at 152.“We outmatched them a little

bit here early in the meet,” states Ripley. “It was pretty much 44-0 before we had time to look up at the scoreboard.”DC Charger Jack Anderson

would put his home team on the scoreboard when he pinned Deshawn Carter at 160 to make it a 44-6 team meet score. An-drew Fogarty answered with a pin to make it 50-6 in favor of

the Panthers. At 182 pounds, Mike Leffler won a hard-fought 7-1 match over Scott West 8th-grader Calvin Menke, and when Leffler’s teammate Jacob Brost scored a pin of Adam Glisczin-ski at 195, the home team Char-gers had their first back-to-back wins of the night. Logan Polzin made it three in a row as he was the benefactor of a locked hands penalty point that enabled him to notch a 2-1 victory over Ty-ler Grieves at 220 pounds.Scott West heavyweight Jo-

siah Schatz closed the meet with a second period pin fall over Brok Huikko that would give the Panthers their 56-18 win over the Chargers.“They are a better team up top

and they beat us at four of the last six weight classes,” states Ripley. “It’s time to get ready for the section tournaments coming up.”

Scott West Gets No. 2

SeedAs expected, New Prague and

Scott West received the top two seeds for this week’s Section 2AA Team Tournament and are on an apparent collision course for a Valentine’s Night show-down at Mankato East High School. In the lower bracket this

Thursday night, Scott West will face the play-in winner between No. 7 seed Tri-City United and No. 10 Mankato West in Belle Plaine. TCU and Mankato East will start their match at 6 p.m. and the winner will meet Scott West shortly afterwards. Who-ever comes away from Belle Plaine Thursday night will likely face No. 3 seed Waconia in Saturday’s 4 p.m. semifinals

at Mankato East. Waconia on Thursday will host either No. 6 seed Glencoe-Silver Lake or No. 11 Mankato East.In the upper bracket, top seed

New Prague will be at home Thursday night against the winner between No. 8 seed St. Peter and No. 9 Delano. No. 4 seed Hutchinson will host ei-ther No. 5 Watertown-Mayer or No. 12 Chaska. The up-per bracket semifinal will be played at the same time as the lower bracket semifinal (4 p.m. Saturday at Mankato East). Saturday night’s championship match will take place about 20 minutes after the conclusion of the semifinals, with the win-ner advancing to the state team tournament in St. Paul in two weeks. The Section 2A Individual
