Grandparents’ Day This Friday, September 18 th is Grandparents’ Day at LCM! I will email a separate invitation for you to pass along to your child’s grandparents. Activities include a special Friday Flag Salute, a classroom visit, and time to shop at our LCM Scholastic Book Fair! I look forward to meeting your families. Language Arts: AR (Accelerated Reader): Your child completed his/her first STAR Reading Assessment. I will use this data to help your child set individual classroom reading goals. This goal will be separate from our LCM Library/School Wide AR Goals that are recognized by Mrs. Schenider. There will be more information shared with you soon regarding your child’s point and percentage goal for the first half of the school year. (Reading Information): We will complete our “Where in the World is California?” flip books. Students should be able to name our planet, hemispheres, continent, country, state, county, and city. We will use lines of latitude and longitude to name an absolute location. The reading focus this week will be to identify the main idea and supporting details from informational text. (Reading Literature): We will begin our study of Greek Mythology this week. We will focus on identifying allusions within the text. For example, in the story, “King Midas”, the Midas Touch alludes to good luck or having a “golden touch”. Read Aloud: We will begin reading the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling. This is an exciting children’s fantasy novel.
