Seymourone Club Together community member LADY MARGARET’S PARK CYCLE ROUTE SURFACES Flat tarmac and gravel. There are some steps at Trevor Basin and cyclists must dismount over Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. TRAFFIC Almost entirely traffic free. SUITABILITY FOR YOUNG CHILDREN Yes - There are some steps at Trevor Basin and cyclists must dismount over Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. HILLS No hills. REFRESHMENTS/FACILITIES In Chirk try Caffi Wylfa or The Tea Rooms. The Wharf Tearooms are along the canalside in Llangollen and Deeside Cafe Bistro is in the town itself. LOCAL BIKE HIRE Cycles 2 Go 01691 773 532 This route has been suggested by Sustrans’ Volunteer Rangers. The Caravan Club would always recommend that any children or young people under 18 years should be fully supervised by a responsible adult. Please be aware that using this route is entirely at your own risk. Extreme care should always be taken when cycling on site, remembering that traffic will be moving around the site and to observe speed limits. Particular attention should be paid when going round blind corners or emerging from paths. DIRECTIONS 1 As you leave the site, follow the lane towards Chirk railway station. 2 Just before you reach the railway line, there will be the start of a canal towpath on your right. 3 Turn right and follow the towpath. It will take you round Chirk and on towards Pentre. 4 Keep following the canal as it goes left. Continue on this path and just before arriving in Trevor you will pass the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It is the highest and longest aqueduct on the UK canal system. Built 200 years ago, it is over 1000 feet long and stands 126 feet above the river Dee. 5 Return to site by the same route in reverse. OPTIONAL EXTENSION After reaching the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, continue along Route 85 of the National Cycle Network to reach Llangollen. EASY 9 MILES LADY MARGARET’S PARK This route takes you alongside the Shropshire and Union Canal. Just before arriving in Trevor, you pass the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct built by Thomas Telford 200 years ago. You can continue onto Llangollen on National Route 85. Llangollen has often been referred to as the gateway to North Wales, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a haven for sightseers, cyclists and walkers of all ages.
