Behind the Curtain- Tech Theatre CampThis program provides a great opportunity for thosewho prefer to work behind-the-scenes. Students willwork side-by-side with professionals in the world oftheatre learning about all elements of technical theatreincluding: carpentry, scenic design, lighting, and sound

design. Students will work together to learn all of the technical aspects of what it takes to make a production come to life.

The program will be held at the Illinois Central College PerformingArts Center, a state-of-the- art facility including a hung stagingarea and main house, light and sound control booth, scene shopstudio, twenty-eight station makeup room, costume storageroom, and costume construction room.

Dear College for Kids Students and Families,

I am looking forward to another great summer with College for Kids at Illinois Central College. You will notice that the 2017sessions offer a wide range of classes, andmany are new to our program. We are proud to offer new courses within the fine arts, outdoor learning, history, and more. We alsohave additional opportunities available forhigh school students this summer.

Students can choose from one to threeclasses per session. Each two-hour classmeets Monday through Thursday for twoweeks on the East Peoria Campus, and ourclasses are led by highly qualified instructors.Club CFK is offered Monday through Thursdayfrom 3:15 to 5:00 pm for those wishing to extend their day at College for Kids. Classesdo not meet on Fridays, but students are welcome to join us for fun Friday Field Trips.Please refer to the Friday Field Trips section(page 11) for additional information.

In an effort to ensure that all students have a safe and positive experience at College for Kids, we do require attendance at one orientation with your student.

Pick-up - CFK tent immediately after thestudent’s last class of the day. Studentswaiting more than 15 minutes after class isdismissed will be escorted to the home-room. You will be required to come to theCFK homeroom to sign out your student.

Important Registration Notes - Pleaseread before registering your child: Make sure to register with your child’s name. You can only register one child at a time and each child must have their own profile. This means that you will have to pay separately for each child. You are more than welcome to call our office at (309) 690-6900 to register multiple children. Please provide a valid email when registering. A confirmation receipt will be emailed when your registration has been processed and full payment is received. Your receipt will include a link to the required College for Kids forms.

Lunch Payment OptionsCaféCa$h (gift cards) - You choose theamount to put on the card. The student usesthe card to purchase their own lunch fromCampus Dining. This is a great way to helpyour child learn to budget their own lunchmoney. The only time to purchase a newlunch card is during our Orientations or byvisiting Campus Dining (ask for a card forCollege for Kids). Once you have purchaseda card, you can add money to the card online at any time. Cash, checks, or creditcards are accepted.

If you have a card from a previous year, you can deposit additional funds online aticc.edu/around-campus/campus-dining/payment-methods-cafecash/. The card number is required (it is on the back of the card) for online deposits. Can’t findyour card or need one? Then you may purchase one at Orientation or by visitingCampus Dining. Just ask for a card for College for Kids. Cash, checks, or creditcards are accepted.

Cash - Campus Dining and our vendingmachines accept cash for purchases.

Bring your own lunch - Your student willbe responsible for keeping track of their ownlunch. Your child will not have access to arefrigerator or a lunch collection bin/system.

Note: Campus Dining will not sell energydrinks to College for Kids students in itslunch room, and we strongly recommendthat students do not bring these drinks in or purchase them through our vending machines while attending College for Kids.

Refunds and Cancellations Requests for a refund must be received five (5) business days beforethe first day of each session. Refunds will not be issued after the following deadline dates: Session 1 - June 5, Session 2 - July 3. Requests may be made by phone at (309) 690-6900. College forKids reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment. Stu-dents enrolled in a class that is cancelled will be offered an alternativeclass or the option of a full refund.

ScholarshipsLimited scholarships are provided by the ICC Educational Foun-dation. The scholarship amount is $60 per class with a maximum oftwo scholarships per child, not to exceed $120 total. Limit of fourscholarships awarded per family, not to exceed $240 total. Additionalclasses will be charged at full price. Club CFK and Friday Field Tripsdo not qualify for scholarships. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability of funds and verification of financial need.

AttendanceAttendance will be taken at the start of each class period. Absencesor late arrivals must be called in to the CFK Homeroom at (309) 694-8880. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after class begins,you must escort your child to the homeroom. Your child will receive apink attendance slip that will be given to the instructor. Late arrivals

will not be allowed into the classroom without an attendance slip. Accurate attendance is important for the safety of our students. Thelocation of the Homeroom will be provided during Orientations.

Discipline PolicyAppropriate and respectful behaviors are expected while attendingCFK. Students that do not uphold these expectations will be escortedto the CFK Homeroom. It will be the student’s responsibility to contacttheir adult caregiver to explain why they were removed from class.Students will be allowed to return to class when they are able toagree to improved behavior. Continued disruptions may result in thestudent’s permanent dismissal from College for Kids with no refundgiven. Illinois Central College has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy inthat no weapons (i.e. knives, guns of any kind, etc.) are allowed on campus. Any student choosing not to abide by the rules and regulations of Illinois Central College will not be allowed to return toCollege for Kids. These policies help ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Friday Field Trip General InformationDrop-off at the CFK tent no earlier than 8:30 a.m. The ICC Cougar bus departs at 8:45 a.m. and will return by 2:30pm. All students registered for Friday Field Trips MUST ride from the East Peoria Campus to and from the fieldtrip location. This is necessary for the safety of our students. Parents must be able to pick up their children fromthe CFK Tent by 2:30 pm. Students must bring a sack lunch and a drink.

Space is limited for all Friday Field Trips, so make sure you register early!

Challenger Learning Center at Heartland Community College, Normal Friday, July 21Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $70

Not many people can say they have discovered a comet ortraveled to Mars and then back to Earth in time for lunch.Join us for a unique and exciting hands-on trip at the Challenger Learning Center where we will rendezvous witha comet. You will be part of the space station crew and workwith mission control to rendezvous with Comet Encke. Youmust determine a rendezvous point with the comet, conductscience experiments, and launch a probe into the comet’stail before the launch window closes.

Road Trip Art: A Hands-On/InteractiveVisit to the Peoria Art Guild, PeoriaFriday, June 23 Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $70For over 135 years, the Peoria Art Guild has been dedicated to “bringing art to the community and the community to art”. As a visual arts leader, the Art Guild takes pride in educatingyoung artists, showcasing art diversity, exhibiting multidiscipli-nary contemporary art, and promoting art throughout thecommunity. For the first time, College for Kids will spend theday learning and exploring the visual arts with local residentartists. Students will participate in a variety of art stations inwhich they will work through ceramics and other forms of artthat are showcased and promoted through the guild. This is a unique partnership that has been established through thePeoria Art Guild and the Youth Programs division at Illinois Central College.

Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center, OSF, PeoriaFriday, June 16 Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $72

Jump Trading Simulation & Education Center (Jump) is an incubator where collaboration and innovation lead thetransformation of health care worldwide. Jump programsand objectives are key to improving the safety, effectiveness,and efficiency of care for community members across theregion. On this tour, students will rotate through four different stations that include a tour of the facility and stopsat the skills, anatomical, and innovation stations. Studentswill participate in an extremely hands-on learning experienceas they work with Simulation Engineers, Simulation Specialists, and the Anatomical Coordinator.

Horseback Riding at the Rockin’ P Ranch, Pekin Friday, July 14Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $76

Join us at Rockin’ P Ranch for some “horsing around”.Learn about horseback riding safety, ride a horse along atrail, and create a craft during your time at the ranch. All riders must be age eight or older. Helmets are mandatoryfor children who ride. The ranch can provide helmets at nocharge or riders can bring their own. Liability waivers mustbe completed and signed by parents/guardians for all children before the trip. It is recommended that riders wearlong pants and a heeled shoe or boot. Absolutely NO flip-flops are allowed on rides. Also, please make sure to bringwater for breaks. Don’t miss this opportunity to experiencethe great outdoors on horseback!
