Dear College for Kids Students and Families,

I am looking forward to another great summer with College for Kids at Illinois Central College. You will notice that the 2016sessions offer a wide range of classes, manythat are new to our program. We are proud tooffer new courses within the fine arts,STEAM Education, and more.

Students entering grades 4-9 in the fall canchoose from one to three classes per session. Each 2-hour class meets Monday-Thursday for two weeks on the East Peoriacampus. Classes are led by highly qualifiedinstructors. Club CFK is offered Monday-Thursday from 3:15-5:00 pm for those wishingto extend their day at College for Kids.Classes do not meet on Fridays, but studentsare welcome to join us for a Fun Friday FieldTrips. Please refer to the Friday Field Trip section for additional information.

In an effort to ensure that all students have a safe and positive experience at College for Kids, we do require attendance at one orientation with your student.

Pick-up - CFK tent immediately after thestudent’s last class of the day. Studentswaiting more than 15 minutes after class isdismissed will be escorted to the home-room. Lunch Campus Dining does its best to provide nutritionally appropriatemeals for our College for Kids students. All College for Kids students eat lunch together in the Tranquility Room adjacent to the main Campus Dining location. Specials of the day arelisted at icc.edu/around-campus/campus-dining. Lunch Payment OptionsCaféCa$h (gift cards) - You choose the amount to put on the card.The student uses the card to purchase their own lunch from CampusDining. This is a great way to help your child learn to budget their ownlunch money. The only time to purchase a new lunch card is duringCFK orientation. Once you have purchased a card, you can addmoney to the card online at any time.

If you have a card from a previous year, you can deposit additional funds online at icc.edu/around-campus/campus dining/payment-methods-cafecash/. The card number is required (it ison the back of the card) for online deposits. Can’t find your cardor need one? Then you may purchase one at any time by visiting any of the Campus Dining locations. Just ask for a cardfor College for Kids. Cash, checks, or credit cards are acceptedfor in-person purchases.

Cash - Campus Dining and our vending machines accept cash for purchases.

Bring your own lunch - Your student will be responsible for keepingtrack of their own lunch. Your child will not have access to a refrigera-tor or a lunch collection bin/system. Campus Dining will not sell energy drinks to College for Kids students in its lunch room,and we strongly recommend that students do not bring thesedrinks in or purchase them through our vending machineswhile attending College for Kids.

Refunds and Cancellations Requests for a refund must be received five (5) business days beforethe first day of each session. Refunds will not be issued after thedeadline dates listed: Session 1 – June 6, Session 2 – July 1(due to the holiday weekend). Requests may be made by phone at (309) 690-6900. College for Kids reserves the right to cancel a classdue to low enrollment. Students enrolled in a class that is cancelledwill be offered an alternative class or the option of a full refund.

ScholarshipsLimited scholarships are provided by the ICC Educational Foundation. The scholarship amount is $60 per class with a maximum of two scholarships per child, not to exceed a $120 total.Limit of four scholarships awarded per family, not to exceed $240total. Additional classes will be charged at full price. Club CFK andFriday Fun Trips do not qualify for scholarships. Scholarships areawarded on a first-come, first-serve basis and are subject to availabilityof funds and verification of financial need. Scholarship application is

available online at icc.edu/cfk or call (309) 690-6914 for additional information. Do not register online if you are requesting ascholarship.

AttendanceAttendance will be taken at the start of each class period. Absencesor late arrivals must be called into the CFK homeroom at(309) 694-8880. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after class begins,you must escort your child to the homeroom. Your child will receive apink attendance slip that will be given to the instructor. Late arrivalswill not be allowed into the classroom without an attendance slip. Accurate attendance is important for the safety of our students. Thelocation of the homeroom will be given out during orientation.

Discipline PolicyAppropriate and respectful behaviors are expected while attendingCFK. Students that do not uphold these expectations will be escortedto the CFK homeroom. It will be the student’s responsibility to contacttheir adult caregiver to explain why they were removed from class.Students will be allowed to return to class when they are able toagree to improved behavior. Continued disruptions may result in thestudent’s permanent dismissal from College for Kids with no refundgiven. Illinois Central College has a zero tolerance policy in that noweapons (i.e. knives, guns of any kind, etc.) are allowed on campus.Any student choosing not to abide by the rules and regulations ofIllinois Central College will not be allowed to return to College forKids. These policies help ensure the safety of our students and staff.

If you love the game Minecraft, but alwayswanted to design your own charactersand buildings for your games, this classis for you! Learn the basics of creating3D models using a new software to designyour very own objects, create skins forcharacters, and import them into your favorite Minecraft games. Interpersonal and Study SkillsBabysitters ClubGrades 5-9 8:15Come learn how to be the best baby-sitter! In this class we will learn how to interact with all types of age groups (infant to preschool), and will preparestudents for the responsibility of watchingchildren. Nutrition, sanitary practices,communication with children, TVprogramming, and positive role-modelingare all areas that will be discussed. You’lleven learn how to change a diaper withproper sanitation! If interacting withyounger children is a passion for you,then this class will be a great tool andlearning experience.

Life Skills for Middle School Grades 4-6 10:30 JULY ONLYLearn important skills necessary forsuccess in middle school. We will role-play tricky situations requiring angermanagement and coping with bullying.We'll talk about making and keepingfriends and dealing with everyday annoying situations. We will also practiceorganizational skills which will help getyou and your homework to the rightplace at the same time. Friday Field Trips

Drop-off at the CFK tent no earlier than 8:30. The ICC Cougar Bus departs at 8:45 am and will return by 2:30 pmAll students registered for Friday field trips MUST ride the from the East Peoria campus to and from the field triplocation. This is necessary for the safety of our students. Students will be supervised at all times. Parents must be able to pick up their children from the CFK Tent by 2:30 pm. Space is limited for all Friday Field Trips, so register early. Students must bring a sack lunch and a drink.

Horseback Riding at the Rockin’ P Ranch in Pekin Friday, July 22Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $69 per trip

Join us at Rockin’ P Ranch in Pekin for some horseback riding. Learn about horseback riding safety, ride a horsealong a trail, and create a craft during your time at the ranch.All riders must be age 8 or older. Helmets are mandatory forchildren who ride. The ranch can provide helmets at nocharge or riders can bring their own. Liability waivers mustbe completed and signed by parents/guardians for all children before the trip. It is recommended that riders wearlong pants and a heeled shoe or boot. Absolutely NO flip-flops are allowed on rides. Also, please make sure to bringwater for breaks and please bring a sack lunch from homefor this trip. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience thegreat outdoors on horseback!

Get up and Move!Jumpstart Gymnastic and Kids Activity Center and Corn Stock Theatre

Friday, July 15 Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $69 per trip

We will start off the day at Jumpstart Kids and Activity Center.Students will be able to engage in a safe, fun, learning environment through guided, play, experiment, exploration,and discovery at Jumpstart. Jumpstart uses the sport of gym-nastics through movement activities as a tool to successfullyenergize students and to improve self-image. We will thenhead to Corn Stock Theatre. Students will be led on a guidedtour of the outdoor theatre and indoor theatre center. An experienced director and technical designer will be on hand to show the students the backstage details of putting on a production. Students will participate in a variety of improvisa-tion and energetic theatre activities.

Jump Trading Simulation and Education CenterFriday, June 17 Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $69 per trip

Jump Trading Simulation & Education Center (Jump) is an incubator where collaboration and innovation lead thetransformation of health care worldwide. Jump programsand objectives are key to improving the safety, effective-ness, and efficiency of care for community members acrossthe region. On this tour, students will rotate through four different stations that include a tour of the facility in additionto stops at the skills, anatomical, and innovation stations.Students will participate in an extremely hands-on learningexperience as they work with Simulation Engineers, Simulation Specialists, and the Anatomical Coordinator at Jump.

Abraham Lincoln PresidentialLibrary and MuseumFriday, June 24Grades 4-9 • 8:30 am-2:30 pm • $69 per trip

Travel with us to Springfield, Illinois, to explore the home-town of Abraham Lincoln. We will tour the Abraham LincolnPresidential Museum with its holographic and special effecttheaters, interactive displays, and multimedia programs.There is also an 1861 reproduction of the White House. This historic field trip is a great wy to spend a summer day!

We will eat our sack lunch at the museum and have an opportunity to spend some time in the museum gift shop.

If your dream is to work in a professional kitchen, or youjust love the idea of developing your cooking talent, thanjoin Chef Charles this summer for a unique culinary experience. This intense, inspiring camp for young chefsbuilds the essential skills needed to conquer the kitchen.

In five weekday sessions you’ll learn from the same instructors who train our adult career students. Each dayis a true hands-on experience, beginning with your firstlesson when you learn how to make basic sauces suchas Velouté and Béchamel.

After the course is completed, ICC Culinary Camp graduates leave with a new sense of culinary confidence,and the ability to make such dishes as balsamic vinai-grette grilled pork chops, salted caramel panna cotta, and more.

The Culinary Camp is held in the professional kitchens inDogwood Hall at the ICC North Campus. The week-longcourse is taught by professional chef, Charles Robertsonand includes all supplies, chef’s knife, peeler, and sharp-ening steel. Some scholarships are available.
