WASHINGTON HUSKIES 2008-09 WOMEN’S TENNIS 30 COACHES 2009 SEASON 2008 REVIEW CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS PLAYERS FACILITIES THE WASHINGTON WAY RECORDS • All-Americans KRISTINA KRASZEWSKI 1998 • Singles 2000 • Singles 2001 • Singles Washington’s first All-American and career singles wins leader. Kraszewski was the No. 1-ranked player in the na- tion for five weeks during the 2000 season, and finished the year ranked 6th in 2000 and 9th in 2001. She qualified for the NCAA Singles tourney all four years, reaching the quarterfinals in 1998 and round of 16 in 2001. She also was a two-time NCAA Doubles participant. Kraszewski won the Pac-10 Indoor title in 2000, and made the final of the ITA National Indoor Championships that same year. Kraszewski was a three-time All-Pac-10 First Team member. CLAIRE CARTER 2001 • Singles 2002 • Doubles 2003 • Doubles 2004 • Doubles Washington’s only four-time All-American, the native of Nottingham, England burst onto the college tennis scene in 2001 with a 32-9 singles record. The 32 wins is a UW singles-season record. Carter reached the NCAA Singles round of 16 as a freshman, but her greatest successes came in doubles. She played in the NCAA Doubles Championships with three dif- ferent partners, and reached the quarterfinals in 2002 with Darija Klaic, and again in 2004 with Dea Sumantri. Carter’s 93 career doubles wins are the Washington re- cord, and she finished in the Top-10 in the ITA doubles rankings in 2003 and 2004. DARIJA KLAIC 2002 • Doubles 2003 • Doubles One of the best doubles players in Washington history, and a terrific singles player as well, the Croatian native earned doubles All-American honors in 2002 and 2003 while team- ing with Claire Carter. The two were ranked as high as No. 3 in 2003 and finished the season at No. 10. Klaic and Carter made the NCAA Doubles quarterfinals in 2002, and she also made the doubles tour- ney in 2001 with Kristina Kraszewski and finished ranked 11th. Klaic also was an NCAA Singles participant in 2002, and finished ranked in the Top-100 in singles in three of her four seasons. Her 84 career doubles wins are second at UW all-time. DEA SUMANTRI 2003 • Singles 2004 • Singles & Doubles One of only two Huskies to record 100 career singles wins, the native of Jakarta, Indonesia is second all-time with 100 wins and third in doubles wins with 83. Her 2004 season was perhaps the best all-around year in Husky history, as she fin- ished ranked seventh in doubles with Claire Carter and 17th in singles, netting All-America honors in singles and doubles and earning a spot on the All-Pac-10 and All-Academic First Teams. Sumantri was a three-time NCAA Singles par- ticipant, reaching the round of 16 in 2003. She was ranked as high as No. 5 in 2005 but injuries hampered her in the second half of the season and she finished 22nd.
