The December KMC Top 3 General Membership Mee ng is January 28, 2014 at The O’Club on Ramstein. Mee ng starts at 11:30; food is served at 11:00!
As General Welsh said, "Every Airman has a story" and, in today's busy world and Air Force, seldom do we hear these stories from the source. This was the case on December 12th from 1300‐1630 in the Hercules Theatre. The Total Force Development Council hosted "Storytellers;" an in mate, raw experience of real stories from our peers. The Storytellers event was a huge success and had an impressive turn out. In an email, SMSgt Amber Mitchell said this of the event, “It was AWESOME!!!” The courageous Airmen who shared their stories with the audience indulged in details ranging from abuse, to PTSD and work related issues. The purpose of the second part of this Storytellers series was to encourage other Airmen to share their stories, and to try to get to know other Airmen’s stories too. With this goal in mind, supervisors and coworkers are encouraged to become closer to their peers and troops so they can become more aware if something is going on with that person, or if that person starts ac ng differently at work. With the success of the two Storytellers events so far, we may expect more of these events to follow in the future.

General Membership
Mee ng is on
9 January, 2014 at 1130
at the O’Club on
Ramstein Air Base.
All are invited to a end!
FisherHouseHelpingHands
The KMC 5/6 has adopted the Landstuhl Fisher
Houses I and II as one of their Special Projects.
This is a great volunteer opportunity to help
out a wonderful organiza on. This dona on of
your me has such a great impact on the families
and staff of the Fisher Houses and those that will
u lize the facili es in the future. This example of
selflessness reduces a lot of stress from the
shoulders of the Fisher House staff.
As volunteers we provide manning for daily up
keep of the facili es and common areas of both
Fisher Houses. This includes cleaning rooms a er
guests have checked out, changing linens,
dus ng, mopping and cleaning restrooms.
Volunteers would meet in the Lobby of Fisher
House II at 0845, and meet with the friendly staff
about what needs to be accomplished that day.
The cleaning tasks are usually very easy to
accomplish in under 2 hours if there are enough
volunteers! The house usually cannot
handle more than 10 people for both
houses though.
If you’re interested in volunteering, contact
Tsgt Steven McKinney at
[email protected] or 480‐3718.

NewNCOPMEReferenceCurriculum
The KMC 5/6 added a new NCO PME Reference Curriculum (1416‐13 PME Defense Curriculum) to the Supervisor Toolbox on the KMC 5/6 SharePoint Site. You can also get to the document directly via this link: h ps://sp2007.ice.usafe.af.mil/sites/kmc5_6/Supervisor%20Toolbox/1416‐13%20 PME%20Defence%20Curriculum_en.pdf Here is the purpose of the document, to give you a reason to check it out! This document is the result of the best inten ons of a mul na onal team of civilian and military academics drawn from 13 countries. The aim of this document is modest. It does not pretend to be comprehensive nor does it purport to be the last word on NCO professional military educa on. Rather, this
document aims to serve as a reference, a star ng off place, for individuals or organiza ons in NATO member states and partner countries looking to develop and/or supplement their NCO professional military educa on (PME). This document in essence is intended as a start of a dialogue within defense academies/schools about the kind of educa on they aspire to have and wish to impart to their NCO corps. It is not intended to be adopted lockstep but rather to be adapted to fit par cular na onal needs and aspira ons. As a reference document this curriculum can serve to increase greater intellectual and professional interoperability within and between partner countries and NATO alliance members. JingleBellToyTrot5kaHugeHolidaySuccess!
On December 12th at 1400, approximately 81
registered runners plus about 15 kids showed up
to take part in the Jingle Bell Toy Trot at the
South Side Fitness Center on Ramstein Air Base.
It was a chilly day, but we s ll had a good
turn‐out for the run. The registra on for the
event was an unwrapped toy for a child. In total
we received 77 toys with an approximate store
value of around $800.
Originally the toys were going to be donated
to the St. Nikolaus Orphanage in Landstuhl, but
when contacted about the dona on, the
orphanage said they already had far too many
toys to receive any more. So instead, all the toys
were distributed to foster children throughout
the KMC through ACS and BOSS President SGT
Glagola. ACS and BOSS help support about 465
families and 925 children in the KMC area, and
the toys donated at the 5k are going to a great
cause.
A er the 5k, runners and par cipants were
treated to free hot cocoa thanks to the KMC 1st
Four.

KMC1stFourUpcomingPresidentialElections!
Our beloved KMC 1st Four president Nicholas
Goldstein will be PCS‐ing with his wife and son very
soon, and elec ons for our next President will take
place at the February general Membership mee ng.
Interested applicants need to have a short speech
prepared on why they think they would make a great
KMC 1st Four President. The February General
Membership mee ng will take place on the first
Wednesday of February, which is Wednesday,
February 5th at 1500 in the KMC Mall Conference
room in the food court. It’s the room right next to
the Kids Playland in the KMCC.
Although the next president would have
some big shoes to fill, he/she would be supported with a great KMC 1st Four Council, and would
have access to networking with some of the top leaders on base, include CCM Morris! This is a
great networking, leadership, and professional development opportunity and would put you a
step above most of your junior enlisted peers. For more informa on, contact the KMC 1st Four

RecentLegislativeUpdatesThe AFSA Chapter 1674 on Ramstein Air Base
announced legisla ve updates on November 21,
2013. They’ve picked out the key points for easy
understanding.
. Probable the biggest thing is the ongoing
House‐Senate Budget Commi ee deal on the
NDAA which if passed will avoid a shutdown and
blunt the impact of sequestra on cuts; but lower
military re ree COLAs for re rees under age 62.
The Compromise House‐Senate FY 2014 NDAA
would also give the President his requested 1.0
percent military pay raise‐‐the smallest since the
start of the all‐volunteer force‐‐simply because it
does not address the issue, poten ally opening
the door for the President to con nue using
Execu ve Orders to bypass the law governing
military pay raises. Full text for the highlights is
below.
1. Bipar san Budget Deal Reached;
Proposes Lowering COLAs for Younger Military
Re rees. A bipar san budget deal has been
struck by the joint House‐Senate Commi ee on
the Budget which would lower sequestra on
cuts and avoid a government shutdown in
January. However, it would s ll have to be
passed by the full House and Senate and signed
by the President (who reportedly supports it) to
take effect.
An ar cle in the Army Times reports, “A
bipar san budget deal to avoid another
government shutdown and reduce the impact of
sequestra on over the next two years includes
thorns for working‐age re rees.
“In a move expected to save $6 billion, the
Bipar san Budget Act announced Tuesday by
Sen. Pa y Murray, D‐Wash., and Rep. Paul Ryan,
D‐Wis., calls for reducing annual cost‐of‐living
adjustments for military re rees under the age of
62.
“Working‐age military re rees would receive an
annual pay adjustment [COLA] that is 1
percentage point less than the rise in consumer
prices. For example, the 1.7 percent COLA that
took effect on Dec. 1 and will first appear in
January checks would be just 0.7 percent for
military re rees under age 62 but s ll be 1.7
percent for older re rees if the proposal were
now in effect.
“The COLA reduc on would be phased in three
years. The December 2014 COLA would be
reduced by 0.25 percent, the December 2015
COLA would be reduced by 0.5 percent and the
full reduc on would take effect with the
December 2016 COLA.
“Disability re rees would not have their COLAs
reduced.
“The plan could come to a vote in the House this
week and, if it passes, be taken up by the Senate
next week.”

Of the agreement, the two Budget leaders said
this: House Budget Commi ee Chairman Ryan:
“I’m proud of this agreement. It reduces the
deficit—without raising taxes. And it cuts
spending in a smarter way. It’s a firm step in the
right direc on, and I ask all my colleagues in the
House to support it.”

Get his Way on Smaller Military Pay Raise.
Details of a joint House‐Senate compromise FY
2014 Na onal Defense Authoriza on Bill have
been released. A press release from the House
Armed Services Commi ee provides details. A
few of the features of this compromise bill are
listed here:
•A 1 percent pay raise for military members.
