Excellence and Innovation in a Unique Community
“The School of Choice”
Term 1 Week 4 Friday 19th February 2016
Good afternoon family and friends, What a magnificent Swimming Carnival we had last Friday. A huge thank you to Miss Gorman for organizing and overseeing the day. 77 students participated and so many records were broken. I am so proud of you all. A tremendous effort from all of our parents and again a huge thank you to Dave Roberts and Neil Parnaby for being our officials. That’s the Kenthurst way! Results are published in this newsletter and our Ridges Zone Swimming Carnival will be held on Friday 4th March 2016. An information note will be coming home next week. With the removal of the old school flag pole some concrete was causing a problem. Thank you to Mrs Tina James and her family for coming on a hot Sunday to remove and grind this eyesore. We greatly appreciate your time and effort. The pathway has been completed opposite the school. This allows a continuous access to homes and for parking down Dural Street. It also means that parents can walk safely to the Kenthurst shops. Parking is still causing problems and together with the P&C, we are working with The Hills Council to ensure a safe pedestrian crossing is installed as early as possible. Please come to the School Hall to collect your children or wait on the opposite side of our school and the children will be walked across Dural Street and then they can walk safely on the pathway to where you are parked. We must not cross where the buses are parked as the visibility is minimal. Thank you for your support and assistance in this matter. I hope you have had a chance to visit The Little Jem. Owned and operated by the Kassis family from our school community, it is just so lovely. Jemma is an ex student of Kenthurst Public School too . Our staff are thoroughly enjoying the coffee and food. Delicious Parent Information Nights will be held next Monday 22.2.16 for Stages 2 & 3 starting at 5.00-6.00pm. Tuesday night 23.2.16 is Stage 1 also starting at 5.00pm-6.00pm. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and hear about the exciting things we have planned for this year. If you would like to book an interview for your new teacher, that can be arranged on the night. Looking forward to seeing you next week.

Last week, I was privileged to meet Julia Zemiro from the ABC show Home Delivery. She is also the host of Rock wiz and other documentaries. Julia is doing a story on Ben Quilty and it will go to air in April. I will let you know the dates when I am informed. Julia was so impressed with our school and has aspirations to teach in Africa. Ben Quilty also sent his best wishes to our school community as he fondly remembers his friends and ‘the vibe’ that still exists today. Yours in quality education.

Swimming Carnival Report On Friday 12th February, we held our annual school Swimming Carnival at Riverstone Swimming Pool. The carnival was a great success! All students who attended brought the three school values of respect, responsibility and personal best. Throughout the day, every student had a go at participating in the events, they cheered on their house colours and showed outstanding enthusiasm. A number of records were broken and all teachers were extremely proud of our students on the day. Thank you to all the teachers for your hard work prior to the carnival and on the day. A big thank you to all the house captains and vice captains who encouraged their team members throughout the day. You were excellent role models and showed great leadership. I would like to say a special thank you to the wonderful parents who assisted with timekeeping, announcing, photographing, and place card getters. We couldn’t have done it without you! Congratulations to all place getters and a terrific effort for students who had a go. All event results have been included in this newsletter – place getters, record breakers, age champions and runners up, house point results and parent helpers. A reminder that the Ridges Zone Carnival will be held on Friday 4th March and students will be notified if they have qualified for this event on Monday Week 5. Thank you for a brilliant carnival! EnviroMentors Workshop
Yesterday I went to the EnvrioMentor’s workshop. I learnt what the difference is between fruit and vegetables. Fruits have seeds inside or outside of them while vegetables do not. I learnt that marigolds keep the bad bugs away from the other plants because they are stinky. We planted a snow pea seed and we are growing them in our classroom. It was a very interesting lesson. S1E from Liz (parent)........."Charlotte is looking forward to harvesting the snow peas. She loved playing "Guess the vegetable". Thank you for these great opportunities."
