Shahida Ahmed is showcasing her art works or the very rst timehere in Qatar. Oneness is based on the 99 names o Allah and

the 7 heavens. It looks at the aade o cubes using Kuc scriptwhich creates a universal code to the audience. Shahida tries torelate this with the bar code and identity o things surrounding us.The 99 names o Allah are attributes to what we should all havein character on the outside, but what is truly our inner sel is theunknown , just like the inside o the cube. Clay, wooden cubesin varying sizes, heavy in orm and in their monochrome glaze, this huge installation exquisitely juxtaposes the most avant gardemodern style to illuminate an ancient and eternal eect. But intheir precise ormation one is drawn through each layer o beautyto a point o singular transcendent completeness. In the artists swords: I continue to be inspired by simplicity and the beauty andperection o geometry The piece itsel looks at geometrical ormand beauty through 7 layers, however resulting back to the middleas the oneness, one God. The orm o the cube also relates toworship and the kabba.Oneness is very simple: everything is included and allowed tolive according to its true nature. This is the secret that is beingrevealed, the opportunity that is oered one universal truth andone God. The design o the Kuc script to this piece has beencontributed by Doha based Sabah Arbilli, also exhibiting at KataraGalleries during Ramadan 2013.

Within the context o Qatar/ UK year o Culture 2013, Katara hasinvited artist Omar Khalia to exhibit a photographic installationproject at the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara.

This outdoor photography installation examines the nature obeing. Using digital multiple exposure techniques, an image iscrated that gives us a sense o other-worldliness and depth operspective through the human orm. This combination o manand the elements can be seen in each image, raising questions oidentity, existence and reality. the nature o our very being. whoare we? and how are we perceived? what, in this city, does it meanto exist?

The underlying inspiration, and the heart and purpose o thework, comes rom a deep interest in identity, multiculturalism, andcosmopolitanism.

Doha is a uniquely cosmopolitan city, with a weight o diversecommunities rom across the world, all living together, perormingdierent and dependent unctions in society, to be a part o thatsociety. We adopt identities and roles in transience, and we otenhave little choice about it. Using a multiple-exposure technique,Khalia opens the door into each subjects character-driven souls, playing with the undamental idea o perception; o whom weare, who we think we are, and how we are thought o. The city o Cordoba, declared World Heritage Site in 1994, isknown worldwide or its Arab-Islamic past. Qurtuba, previouslyRoman, Byzantine and Visigoth, underwent such urban andcultural development with the Umayyads that it became one othe most important cities in the world. Worldwide acknowledgedmonuments, such as the Mosque-Cathedral and the MadinatalZahra Archaeological Site, bear witness to such splendour andare outstanding examples o Arab architecture in Spain. However, Cordoba prides itsel with owning a much largercollection o Arab-Andalusian remains spread across the city. Withthe aim o rediscovering these Arab and Islamic legacies, Casarabe organised the participatory exhibition From Qurtuba toCordoba in April 2012, with the active involvement o its citizens.

The idea behind it has been to reassess -through photography- thediverse and rich Arab-Islamic heritage in the city belonging to theperiod o al-Andalus.This exhibition displays a variety o ornamental details -testimonyo past splendour- which is oten taken or granted by Cordobasdwellers and visitors. The collection highlights emblematicmonuments, walls, doors, towers, minarets and baths, includingsome examples o Mudjar art, a more recent architectural styleinspired by the inuences o al-Andalus in the Iberian Peninsula.Ater touring in Spain, the exhibition is brought to Doha thanks tothe shared eorts o Casa rabe and the Embassy o Spain in Qatar,in cooperation with the Cultural Village Foundation KATARA.
