Quarter 1Unit 1

Module 1: Forces and Motion

Page 3: June 3 lesson 1 science 8

Questions to ponder!

• What makes objects move the way they do?

• Why do objects move in different ways? Why are some objects faster than the other?

• What makes objects stay in place?

Page 4: June 3 lesson 1 science 8

Lesson 1: Forces

• Objectives• 1. Explain the concept of force;• 2. Describe how force affect the movement of

objects;• 3. Give the importance of force in daily life.

Page 5: June 3 lesson 1 science 8

Activity

• Will this object move by itself?• How can we make this object move?• While it is moving, how can we make the

object speed up or slow down?• How can we make it stop?• How can we make it change its direction?

What is a force?

• A force is a push or pull that causes an object to move, stop, or change direction

• In physics a force is anything that makes an object move

Page 8: June 3 lesson 1 science 8

• The objects move, speed up, slow down, stop or change its direction because it has to be pushed or pulled.

• The motion of an object can be changed if we apply force on it.

What is a Force?

• Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects. When the interaction ceases, the two objects no longer experience the force. Forces only exist as a result of an interaction.

Think again!

• Consider again this ball here on top of the table. Since this ball stays at rest (meaning does not change its motion) can we say that there is/are no force/s acting on it?

Values Integration

• Why do we need force? • Where can we use force? • What are the applications of force in everyday

life?

Page 12: June 3 lesson 1 science 8

Assignment

• Differentiate balance and unbalanced forces.
