Those who wait for the LORD shall renew their

strength, they shall mount up with wings like

eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall

walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Summer: Warm weather. Sunshine. Vacation. Rest.

Renewal. I hope Summer 2013 offers a bit (actually a lot) of all

these things to you and your family and friends.

Yet as the prophet Isaiah shares in the scripture above, the

Lord is the source of our strength. Those who wait for the Lord,

who turn to the Lord, shall have their strength renewed

(whether they have any vacation time or not). The Lord is not

only the source of our strength—the Lord is our strength! So

let’s get connected to this life giving power supply and be lifted

up with wings like eagles.

This summer, I extend this challenge to you: at the

beginning of each new day (whenever that may be for you!),

pray this simple prayer:

“Today I wait for you Lord, renew my strength.”

May this daily prayer combined with a healthy dose of

whatever recreational activity you enjoy, renew your hearts and

minds to become more of who God created you to be: a beloved

child of God filled with hope and light!

And remember to wait for the Lord by gathering for worship

either on Sunday mornings or on Tuesday evenings at the

popular Taize service. Together, let’s make Summer 2013 an

exciting time of renewal as we deepen our faith and renew our

strength in the Lord.

Waiting for the Lord,

Pastor Tom

Baptism

Adults who desire to be baptized, or those who want to have their child

baptized, are invited to contact the church office. In the case of Adult

Baptism, candidates are encouraged to worship and attend a Sunday morning Bible Study.

Those who want to have their child baptized are asked to schedule a Baptism Preparation

session with Pastor Tom prior to the baptism. P.T. looks forward to talking with you! Please

speak with him if you have questions.

Saturday Morning Bible Study

June 8th, 8:30-10:00am

Upstairs in the main Sunday School area

Making Sense of the Cross, invites us to “listen in” on an open conversation about the

cross and encourages us to think about and experience the cross and its meaning for our

lives. There is no expectation of certain prior knowledge of the Bible or theology. Just bring

your questions and openness to talk about matters of the cross and resurrection of Jesus. It

is not necessary to attend every session. Come as you are able to enjoy morning coffee and

conversation. Bring a friend! For additional information, contact Tammie at 654-3256 or

[email protected].

Sunday's Com'n

Each Wednesday morning at 8:30am, gather with Pastor Tom in the Gathering Space to

reflect on the scripture reading for the coming Sunday. No experience necessary. We read

the text and share how it makes us feel and the thoughts and questions it generates. It's all

good!

Taize Service of Prayer

Beginning in June, come to Taize for prayer, meditation, song and renewal

each Tuesday at 7:00pm. This 30-40 minute worship experience offers a mid-

week opportunity to place your joys and concerns before God and be

strengthened by the Holy Spirit. Holy Communion is offered. Give it a try—

you’ll be glad you did!

Auction, there are activities for all ages. Donations may be left at the church office.

#newchurch:

What’s in a name?

Our Worship and Music Ministry team has courageously been offering a monthly non-

traditional worship service by the name “New Traditions”. The name was meant to

distinguish this service from traditional as well as contemporary forms of worship because

we wanted it to be, well, new. But the team has come to feel this name lacks a certain

energy.

So in April, they re-named the service #newchurch. This name is inspired by the

courageous first settlers of our country who came from distant lands and began naming

places after those with which they were familiar: New England, New York, etc…

In the digital era, many of us find ourselves in a new world without ever having left

home! Persons have left the church or never entered it in the first place.

#newchurch, guided by the Holy Spirit and grounded in Lutheran theology, seeks to

explore new ways that church and worship can be experienced in the digital world we find

ourselves. #newchurch is the primary evangelistic strategy for Trinity for the next three

years. All are welcome to attend with the target audience being those on the margins or

outside of our worshipping community.

#newchurch will continue to be held in the Great Hall and we will continue to offer

traditional worship services in the sanctuary.

So please pray for the church as a whole and for #newchurch. That God would receive

this offering of worship and bless it with God’s presence and guidance. #newchurch: for

the spiritual and religious.

Tidings and Website Editors Needed

Trinity is looking for new editors for our website and for the

monthly Tidings newsletter. The website editor should be

comfortable using computers and the internet. Familiarity with

WordPress would be a bonus. The Tidings editor should be able

to use Microsoft Publisher or similar publishing software, or be

willing to learn. These jobs can be separate or combined. The

current editor will be providing training and help during the

transition period. If you are interesting in helping Trinity by taking

on one or both of these jobs, please contact Pastor Tom, Linda Kluck or

Sheri Villers. Thanks!

Opportunities for Ministry

Continuing throughout

the summer the Care for

Creation team will be

collecting empty ink cartridges for

recycling. Over 13 cartridges are

discarded in the U.S. every second,

according to

CartridgeFundraising.com.

That's hundreds of millions of

cartridges that end up in landfills

every year, made with plastics that can

take at least 1,000 years to decompose.

Not a good thing.

Please deposit your ink cartridges in

the receptacle in the entry hallway.

Care for Creation

Reminder!

Please remember that on the first

Sunday of each month, reflection time

is held before each service. Please

enter the sanctuary in silence on the

first Sunday for prayerful, pre-service

reflection time

a minimum—that is why

we are short a smaller

amount than what we

would be.

Trinity is trying to grow but without funds we cannot. If you want Trinity to keep

growing please donate.

Thank you,

Jim Lichtenheld
