It was an evening of tears and laughter as the stories of the young women who have come to Lifehouse were shared with the audience. Professional actors from Louisville’s Think Tank Theatre presented the story of Lifehouse through the words of current and former residents and staff. Sixteen hours of interviews were transcribed and used as the foundation for the script. The actors also held rehearsals at Lifehouse and had dinner with the residents to get to know them personally. Deacon Pat Wright from Holy Family Church gave the invocation and then introduced Anthony Buie, who blew the Shofar, (ram’s horn), traditionally used as a call to repent- ance, worship and prayer. This was the second time that Mr. Buie has sounded the Shofar for Lifehouse. During the construction of our recent addition he blew the ram’s horn and prayed over the expansion. God has provided for our needs throughout the eight years that we have been open, and we have faith that He will continue to bless the work we do in His name. Our thanks to those who attended for their generous support. One scene in the play recounted the life-changing experience of a former resident as she pondered the Scripture verse, John 3:16 and came to know Jesus Christ for the first time in her life. The scene clearly made an impression on the audience, as more than one donation for $316 was received that night! Lifehouse relies on private donations and does not accept government funds so that we can share the Gospel of our Lord with the young women who come to Lifehouse needing so much more than food and shelter. The continued generosity of our sup- porters means that we can continue our mission of saving babies by first saving the mothers. 2016 Unity for Life Event

Welcome Aboard!

We are pleased to introduce the newest members of our team at Lifehouse:

Jan Antos, housemom, has been married to her husband, Ken, for almost 30 years. Between them they have 4 adult children and 10 grandchildren - all of whom live in Texas. Jan has a very diverse vocational background. She has worked as a commercial artist, a church secretary, a floral designer and served as the Executive Di-rector of the pregnancy resource center in Shelbyville for 10 years. Besides loving and serving the Lord, she enjoys reading, drawing, being on the prayer team at church, walking, riding her bike, and going to water aerobics at the local gym (and of course traveling to Texas to see their kids and grandkids!).

Susan Dejean is mother to 2 daughters and 2 sons and grandma to 7, plus 2 foster children. She retired from 23 years in the automo-tive industry in 2012 and, encouraged by her husband, turned her photography hobby into a home business. After she survived an aortic aneurysm and her husband was “relocated to heaven”, God led her by His Word through the grieving and healing process. In answer to her question, “Where do I go from here?”, volunteer op-portunities arrived in areas of ministry where her passion for home-making, writing and photography could serve others in need. She has served at ALC Pregnancy Resource Center; at Proclamation of the Word for the incarcerated and their families, at Children’s Bread and now, as house mom at Lifehouse Maternity Center.

Our newest housemom, Beth Glover, has been married to her sweet husband, Ron, for 26 years. They have three children: daugh-ters, Katie, 21 and Lissie, 8; and a son, Casey, 18. Beth has worked in various ministry type positions, some paid, but many as a volun-teer. She loves to read, cook, bake and do craft projects, especially scrapbooking and card making. She also enjoys volunteering at her kid’s schools. She says she is excited about working for the Lifehouse Ministry!

We welcome Linda Miller, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, as our new counselor. Linda and her husband have four kids between them, three of whom are mar-ried; and four grandsons! Linda has been in practice for nearly nine years. She has experience in case management, outpatient mental health centers and private practice and loves helping people devel-op new ways of looking at themselves and their world. Linda also loves to sew, hike, bike and run.

Maria Snell joins Lifehouse as the Administrative Assistant, with a variety of work & volunteer experience, including computer pro-gramming, church office administrator, volunteering with parent ministry, and kids & teens through school, her church & scouts. She and her husband of 30 years, Ben, have three talented sons and a sweet daughter-in-law. Having raised boys, it’s a good thing Maria enjoys cooking! She especially loves baking and sharing her sour-dough bread! Maria also enjoys camping, hiking and reading.

Anonymous Angels

You know who you are,

but we don’t.

Lifehouse occasionally receives donations

of postage stamps or cash in the mail, or

sometimes diapers or paper goods are

dropped off at the door from people who

don’t leave their names.

We can’t thank you personally, but we want

you to know that these gifts from our

“Anonymous Angels” are greatly appreciat-

ed. You are included in the prayers we say

asking God to bless all of our donors.

Thank you for your support.

From our Nurse: Shannon “Scoop” Cooper

I’ve always heard if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. How true is that? I returned to college when I was 36 to pursue my dream of being an RN. During nursing school, I did not like my OB or Psych clinical. I wanted to be a “real nurse”. I wanted to save lives. I wanted to make a difference and OB & Psych were not places to do these things. So, when I graduated, I started working at University of Louisville Hospital. For 5 years, I worked in the Burn Unit and Surgical ICU. I was doing it – I was making a difference! Then BAM – I had back issues that resulted in two surgeries three weeks apart. I was in Frazier Rehab for 10 days, came home using a walker and required physical therapy for 5 months. My bedside nursing days were over. How was I go-ing to save the world if I wasn’t in the trauma environment? I believe this may be the part when God started laughing. My first encounter with Lifehouse was when my best friend adopted her son from Lifehouse in 2009. Last year she called me and said the current nurse was retiring and they were looking for a replacement – would I be interested? I was apprehensive at first but felt God encouraging me to meet with Joan Smith and learn more about the position and program. The rest is history. I now work in the fields of Psych and OB – the two fields in which I didn’t feel I could make a difference, but that is the furthest thing from the truth. When these girls come to Lifehouse, they are scared, nervous, broken, and may even

feel that we are their last hope. They come with addiction issues, legal issues, health issues, homelessness, and are often alienated from their families, so they have no support system. They are in survivor mode and an unplanned preg-nancy is actually not their greatest stressor. We have to meet them where they are and it begins with simply taking them to their OB appointments and being a support person, and being with them during their labor and delivery. One resident made an adoption plan – after her son was born, I was at her side making sure she had the emotional support she needed. Another resident had family drama, so during labor and delivery the challenge was to make sure the focus stayed on mom and the baby. Over the course of the last 15 months, we have worked to keep two residents clean and sober and deliver healthy ba-bies. I have helped two residents resolve legal issues, pre-venting them from serving jail time and helped one resident regain custody of her 2 year old. No two days at Lifehouse are the same, and sometimes that means being a shoulder to cry on, someone to laugh with, a sounding board, and an advocate. I pray I have been a light of Christ and have made a difference in their lives, but I do know they have made a difference in my life. “To make a difference in someone’s world, you don’t have to be amazing, rich, talented, beautiful, or perfect. You just have to be you and care. “ (Mandy Hale)
