a prayer request

Society has changed. People are less receptive to folks just showing up at their door. Rescue/evangelism efforts are adjusting to meet society’s changes. Today’s growing churches seem to fall into one of two, or both, categories: 1) engaging worship; and 2) engaging ministries. Celebrate Recovery is proving to be a most engaging ministry that is also bearing fruit in evangelism. We thank God for that.

Our Celebrate Recovery has now expanded to include a Youth division, currently called, “Life Hurts, God Heals.” Jeremiah Oliver is doing a great job in leading this vital ministry for Youth, many of whom have, otherwise, not been in any church.

On any Monday night you will find well over 100 adults and youth being ministered to through CR at Brushy Creek. Because of this we have a wonderful new challenge. We have a growing number of children who are coming with their parents. We provide child-care, but we need to provide much more. These kids live in the same house with parents who are trying to deal with their own hurts, habits, and hang-ups. So the kids have their problems too.

We have a wonderful DVD based curriculum for the kids titled, “Celebration Station.” It can be used to minister to the kids in a very entertaining and informative way.

The challenge? We need leaders!

Would you pray about possibly helping with Kid’s CR, about possibly teaching Celebration Station to our older children (ages 5-11) on Monday nights? If you would like more infor-mation, you can contact me at the church. Please join me in prayer about this important need.

RESCUE MINISTRY

how quickly we forget...

In just a day or two we will be celebrating our 234th birthday as a nation. With all our problems, there is still not a close 2nd, is there? I’ve been on several continents and never found anything remotely comparable to the United States of America. We enjoy freedoms, opportuni-ties, resources, and advances in our standard of living, of which the people of the world are green with envy. We are free to do just about anything we would like so long as it doesn’t infringe on another’s right to pursue life, liberty and happiness. We get to choose our level of involvement in government. We can vote or abstain from voting. We can campaign vigorously for a candidate without fear of reprisal should he/she lose the election. We can even run for public office at any level, provided we meet the criteria for candidacy which is about a low as it gets. These are no doubt among the reasons that people are willing to risk life and limb to get into this country, legally or otherwise, while few ever want to leave. Here is the sad thing, though. When freedom is all you’ve ever known, you tend to take it for granted. You assume it will always be there. You have a tendency to overlook the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of freedom or the price that was paid for freedom. Once something has survived 234 years it seems rather permanent as well. But history reveals at least two things. One is that while freedom has survived, it has been challenged and threatened on numerous occasions. And, it will be as long as it stands. Secondly, 234 years is not as long as it may appear. Ask the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, English or French. Additionally, our supremacy as a nation is only about a century old at best. There is no question, it’s our day in the sun. We are fortunate to be citizens of this country at this point in human history, but let’s not take it for granted. Let’s do all we can to preserve it. Keep America strong. Practice good citizenship. And most of all, may God bless America.

thanks rebecca!

I want to thank Rebecca Oaks for her coordination of our second Creative Arts Camp. All the children had a great time of learning to praise God through the Arts.

We’ve gotten off to a great start with our childrens ministry this summer.

Do you play, or have played, a musical instrument? We would love to have you join us in the Creekside Orchestra. Practice is Mondays at 7:30pm.

Come join us....it’s FUN!

reminders...

Below are a few policy and procedure reminders. Following

these guidelines will help our preschool program to run

smoothly and effectively.

• Every loose item that comes to the room with a child

should be clearly labeled with first name and last

initial (diaper bag, pacifier, bottle, coat, sweater, infant

security items, etc.)

• Children wearing diapers MUST bring:

› An adequate supply of diapers or training pants.

› A change of clothes.

• A snack is provided by the church for children who are

in Toddler classes and older. Snacks for babies must

be provided by the parent in a labeled, re-sealable

container.

• No medications will ever be administered by teachers

of preschoolers. Please do not send medication in

bottles or food.

• Infants and sleeping babies may bring a security item

for which the child genuinely has a need. Otherwise,

it is recommended for the benefit of your child and

the others in the room that you not allow your child

to bring in toys, dolls, or other items from home.

Sharing is difficult for children. It is easier to teach

children to “share” items which belong to “all of us,”

like those provided in the room. One item from home

almost always causes unnecessary problems, which

interfere with teaching.

• Art and outdoor play are often part of our “learning by

doing” plans for teaching. Please keep this in mind

when dressing your child for church.

• If you would like to observe your child’s activities

during the teaching session, please do so discreetly.

Never go into the child’s room while the children are

participating in learning activities.

middle school pastors’ campb2b - “back to the basics”

Like newborn babies crave the pure milk of the word so that you may grow up in your salvation. - 1 Peter 2:2

This summer at Pastors’ Camp, we are getting back to the basics of our Christian faith. I heard a man once say that there is nothing more powerful than a teenager on fire for Christ. I think one of the hindrances to this power is that many Christians never grow up in their salvation. They simply stay like babies in Christ for their entire life here on earth as a believer. This year’s pastors’ camp will prayerfully reignite the passion for Christ that so many students are missing these days!

b2b is going to an unforgettable pastors’ camp that is not like any other camps we have done in the past. We are going to Look Up Lodge again, but our format is going to change. Parents, do not let your child miss out on the opportunity to meet their Sunday school teachers for the upcoming year as well as many other youth leaders that will be involved. Oh, and by the way, all day Saturday at camp will be geared toward getting to know our amazing Pastoral staff at BCBC.

Not only will students be challenged to get back to the basics of the Christian Faith, during incredible worship services and chal-lenging Bible studies. They will also have a blast at Look Up Lodge with the Super Swing, the Zip Line, the waterslide, swimming, fishing, paintball and field games, all while hanging out with their friends, Sunday school leaders, and Pastors! I cannot think of a better way for your kids to end their summer! Don’t delay, register as soon as possible.

your free summer missions opportunity is right in your own backyard...or at least, not far from it! Have you heard about all the fun people have at the basketball camps on the New York City mission trip? Have you always wanted to be a part of it but couldn’t because of money? Well, here is your chance to be a part of something just like that without it costing you a dime. July 7-9 the high schoolers (and anyone else who would like to participate) will be reaching out to the community by hosting a basketball camp here at BCBC. Now I hear some of you already, “I don’t like basketball.” Well, don’t worry, because there are many other ways you can help out. We will need people to prepare snacks, pass out flyers, clean up, set up, and share the gospel. Remember back to just a few shorts months ago, we really are Better Together. So everyone come and join us as we reach out to our community with the gospel through sports. It will begin at 6:30pm and conclude each evening at 8:30pm. The last night all those who served during the project are invited to hang around for a movie night. Again the best part is it is free. The only thing it will cost you is your time. You can sign up to be apart of this great event online at www.brushycreek.org.
