Young Author

Writing has always been the best form of creative expression for me. While my first book,

‘9 Chocolatey Bites’, was a collection of short stories, Dancing Kites is an anthology of poems.

To me, poems are the freestyle of the writing world, with no rigid rules or any such barriers. Poetry

is my favourite writing style not because there are no rules but because poems are so easy to

connect to as they are simply thoughts on paper with no convoluted layers or twists. This is why

‘Dancing Kites’ is a special book for me, because I want readers to be able to relate and connect to

each and every poem in the book and know that they are not alone. The book launch happened in

Bangalore on the 21st of November in the presence of many esteemed guests. I am so happy and

excited to be able to share ‘Dancing Kites’ with the rest of the world.

My Squash Journey so far...

I started playing squash from February 2019. At the beginning, I learned the basics of the game.

Since I was progressing well, my coach moved me to the senior batch. I was very happy and enjoyed

playing with the older boys and girls. Slowly, I was allowed to play tournaments. Every time I play,

my coach and parents encourage me to give my best and not to worry about winning or losing. My

coach advises me to eat a banana and peanuts everyday for energy. I hope to play more, enjoy the

sport and correct my small mistakes like holding my racquet outward and holding the grip tight.

I hope I would be a professional squash player one day. So far, I have played tournaments

in Kolkata, Secunderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Dear Reindeers,

Why have you been so mean to Rudolph? Why could you not have been good in the first place?

Now you are not going to get any presents from Santa and you are going to be on his naughty

list. I don't think Santa's going to let you ride his sleigh tonight and I hope Rudolph is ok.

If I were Rudolph and those reindeers troubled me, I would have told their principal.

If I were Rudolph, I would have removed the red nose and put a black nose.

Moral of the story: We should not tease others.

Tiga and Eley

In a jungle in Asia lived an innocent and kind tigress, Tiga. One day when Tiga was walking

through the jungle, suddenly an elephant came out. ‘Hi’ said Tiga, ‘Hello’ replied the elephant.

‘What is your name?’ asked Tiga. ‘Eley’, replied the elephant! So Eley and Tiga went, went,

went for a long walk together. It was eight o'clock at night and Eley and Tiga were tired. ‘I can't

walk’ said Tiga. Finally they reached a place where they got something to eat. Eley and Tiga ate,

ate, ate to their heart’s content. They said goodbye to each other after their dinner time and are

best friends till date.

Woman’s Work

I do the household chores,

And run to the stores.

I have to tend to the tots,

And feed them on dot.

I have to think a lot,

To keep their gadgets apart.

I have a pet to feed,

And leaves to weed.

I have to cook delicious food,

For others to be in a good mood.

Keeping the house sparkling clean,

No time for me to lean.

My Journey

When I was walking down the long black road,

I looked down and I saw a big fat toad.

I said ‘hello’ and the toad said ‘Hi’

But I had to go so I said Goodbye.

As I continued my journey, I saw a hen

Then I counted the chicks which were ten

Next, I saw a water snake

That was swimming in a nearby lake.

Then I saw a furry cat,

That was sitting on a small, blue mat.

Finally, it was time for me to go back home

After having a beautiful roam.

- Neha Kothari, grade III

Making Memories

Photographs to me are fleeting moments eternally frozen in the framework of time. Admittedly,

I do feel a tinge of nostalgia when I look at my childhood photos. Nevertheless, it is not all about

going back to the past and turning to mush when memories hit you. They help us connect the

dots-trace our journey of evolution from the cocoon of protected childhood to the vicissitudes of

adulthood. They serve to remind us of how our experiences as a child have added up to help us

become the person we are now. Moreover, so it is always good to preserve your memories,

especially the happy ones.

It was only recently that my love for the lens became a serious commitment . It happened

during a photography workshop. During the course of the workshop, I was constantly reminded

of what drew me to photography in the first place and how it has always been an indispensable

part of my being. Most importantly , I had a moment of epiphany when I realized this is what

I would love to do given the luxury of time and the means to its fulfillment – travel the world,

clicking pictures , capturing beauty, freezing time and most importantly, making memories!
