Meet JOLENE!

CROET Summer Project: 2006

• Directed by William Lambert, Ph.D.

• Goal: Develop a device to measure music player sound levels and educate adolescents/young adults about safe music listening levels.

• Based on Dave Brown’s “purple head”

Challenge:

Design and build a stand-alone, interactive Jolene exhibit for the Science of Sound gallery at MIM.

Original Jolene Ear• Anatomically correct pinna & concha, short ear canal, silicone material.

Design of Jolene’s new ear: Match the MIM headphone shape, anatomically “correct” ear canal, maintain compatibility for earbuds.

Initial Design Refinement to create channel for headphone/earbud cable and to match angle of the head.

Communicating hearing health

• Visitors spend, on average, between 51 and 89 seconds viewing monitors in the gallery

• Jolene monitor cycles through 4 slides• Lots of pictures!(Full versions at end of this presentation.)
