Featured Workshop SpeakersGrief, Humor, and PurposeMelissa MorkWorkshop DIn the course of our lives, we will experience significant losses that cause us to grieve: death, divorce, broken relationships, failed friendships, impoverished childhoods, and even the death of a dream. This session will explore the tasks of grief work. We will discuss patterns, processes, and obstacles to grief and look at the value of humor in the process. Finally, we will explore a way to find purpose in our pain.

Stay Curious—How Questions and Doubts Can Save Your FaithStephanie O'BrienWorkshop A Most of us are going through the motions when it comes to faith, either believing we've found all the relevant answers to life's questions or believing none can be found. We shy away from our deepest questions about God because we fear the uncertainty on the other side. But when we make certainty and correct belief the end goal of faith, we miss out on the chance to know God more deeply and to participate in God's work in the world. Pastor Steph shows us how to lean into our questions and embrace a life of curiosity. Taking Jesus's life as a model, we can confront our fears, be set free from our anxiety, ask new questions, and live an adventurous life of curiosity.

Set Apart Conference | March 6 & 7, 2020

WorkshopsLearning for God Erica SundvallWorkshops C & D Most of us have learning goals, but we don't always create and approach them in a way that honors God. I know from personal experience that learning can be a selfish and frantic endeavor. There are many factors that underlie honorable learning: health, stamina, identity, intention, and motivation, to name a few. These can be hard to identify and change, but with the support of the Bible and cognitive research, let's learn how to learn for God. Set Aside Distractions and Savor the Present Heather CruzWorkshops A & C Set Aside Distractions – Put down the devices, find the true call to freedom in Christ – Lessen the worries that weigh us down – Remember that worldly desires can steal our true joy – Discover how fear shifts our focus. Savor the Present – Connect to Creation – Taste and see that He is good – Sit beside Christ-followers (found in the Bible and in the pews) – Find tangible ways to enjoy life through simple steps taken every day. Trusting the Lord in Disappointment Heidi Hoefs Workshops A & B We all experience disappointments in life. How do we trust God in the midst of those disappointments and challenges? How can we really believe that God is for us when things do not go our way? By way of scripture and an examination of the promises of God, we can be assured we will be able to stand strong in the midst of all that life brings. God is for us and we can be confident that He will comfort us in our times of need.

Be Still, My Soul Heidi Sawyer & Heather Hood Workshops B & D Psalm 46:10 states, “Be still, and know that I am God.” This workshop will be a time of stillness, meditation, and worship through music. Familiar hymns and songs as well as some meditative classical pieces will be played on violin and piano. Participants will have handouts with words to the songs and scripture verses to meditate on while listening. This session will also include several opportunities to sing along. Through music, we will find rest in knowing: 1. God our creator is in control. 2 God loves and cares for us. 3. God has redeemed us by grace. 4. God is faithful. 5. God will complete our joy in heaven. Hospitality Reimagined: Welcoming God and Others Jenna Thompson Workshops C & D Do you associate hospitality with serving dinner on farmhouse tables and welcoming close friends into your cozy home? In this workshop we will reimagine hospitality in light of how Jesus practiced it in the Gospels. We will explore the roots of Christian hospitality. We will discuss common cultural myths about hospitality that keep us from loving our neighbor, and we will consider the transformative power of hospitality for our churches and communities.

Help! I Have a Prodigal Judy Slegh Workshops A & B Having a prodigal is a prevalent problem in this day and age. We feel alone, but we are not. How do we navigate it with hope and stay sane? With wisdom drawn from her experience with a prodigal child, Judy Slegh will offer practical tools that will equip you for the daily battle. Discover the power of releasing unforgiveness to bring emotional healing and peace. Rediscover the jewel in your prodigal by peeling away offense. Learn how to develop declarations to think hopefully and speak hopefully in partnership with God. Journey into Healthy Relationships with Others - Navigating the Conflicts and Tensions in our Lives Julie Sampson Workshops C & D When conflict and relational tension arise in our lives, it creates unrest for our souls. Whether in our workplace, in families, or in our communities, these frustrations are inevitable, but we can learn how to navigate these with greater confidence. God desires for us to live in right relationship with others and do our best to seek peace and pursue it. Equip yourselves to work through these relational tensions with others and learn the tools to have "critical conversations" that honor the Lord, honor the other, and bring rest to our souls.

Positive Communication in a Polarized World Karly Hall Workshops A & B During a time when our nation’s leaders are communicating in polarizing, negative, and “us versus them” methods, learn how your unique, powerful, positive, and God-given voice can be one of your most valuable assets. You will leave with a greater understanding of yourself and your communication strengths, increased capacity to successfully navigate difficult conversations, and develop techniques to overcome fear and self-judgment. Discovering Your Genius with Joy Leslie Chermak Workshops A & B Have you ever wondered what your gifts are? Do you feel your days pass by in a blur of wife/mom/career duties? Do you wonder what ELSE there is? In this lively workshop Leslie encourages women and helps them find their "genius." Knowing that God has designed each person uniquely in mind, body and soul, Leslie gives life-changing hope to women who are seeking balance and meaning. You are More than Enough Lisa Wilt Workshops C & D Mark 6:30-44. As wives and mothers, do you ever feel like you’re feeding 5,000 hungry mouths? If you have a family of five, in one year you feed them over 5,000 times (5,475, but who’s counting?). No wonder you’re tired! Have you ever had (or felt like) less than enough and you needed God to show up? I sure have, and He multiplied the little that I had. So often we see this miracle pertaining only to food, but it is found in every gospel, because it teaches us that if we start with what we have, with God we will always be enough!

Discover how to pray a breath or contemplative prayer. This type of prayer is a personal prayer to a personal God. Its focus is Jesus and God’s glory. This type of prayer is faith-filled intentionality and has a Biblical focus. (Bring your Bible to this workshop.) I did not realize I had an abortion - it sounds unbelievable but when you hear my story you will know why. My redemption story sheds light on self-worth and emotional pain after abortion and opens doors for communication and sharing the love of Jesus with hurting women. Romans 3:23 Spiritual Formation and Generation Z Megan Brown Workshops A & B Reaching and teaching the next (or current) generation is of great importance. In this workshop, we will look at some key characteristics of Generation Z, how to enter into their formation journey, and discuss the importance of establishing deep roots. Simply, Live Your Best Life Renee Carlson Workshops C & D Does your social media feed feature perfectly put together homes? Are you often telling yourself, “Just one more storage bin and everything will be put in its place?” Do you look around your garage and wonder, “Where did all this stuff come from?” Whether it’s clothes, household items, toys or technology, research is clear that more stuff equates to more housework, more stress, and less rest for your soul. This inspiring session will offer you practical, real-life strategies that empower you to incorporate a minimalist philosophy into your home so you have time to live your best life. Does Sex Restore Your Soul? Ruth Buezis Workshops C & D In a world filled with porn, hook-up sex, and few real answers, how do you embrace sex as a gift from God?
