JULY 12 11:00am Live Stream

Being an Ambassador for Christ in Today’s World

2 Corinthians 5:11-21

From Our Pastor. . . We began limited in-person worship this past Sunday, July 5 with 27 persons in attendance. Our current in-person maximum is 62. So, we have room for growth as you feel comfortable. In case we have more than the maximum number on Sunday morning, we will open the chapel for overflow seating. Those in the chapel will be able to view the live-streaming service on a big-screen television. We continue to ask all in-person worshipers to allow for proper social distancing and

to wear masks when inside the church as a way of showing love for their neighbor worshipers. We have prepared a re-entry video showing what to expect as we re-enter worship under these new conditions. You can watch the video at https://vimeo.com/432835891.

We encourage you to continue to attend online if you or a family member does not feel well or if you are just not ready to attend church in-person. We appreciate and give thanks for our church staff, instrumentalists, singers, media team, and other leaders and participants who provide a high quality live-streaming worship service each week. Know that you are part of the Abingdon Baptist Church family no matter whether you choose to attend in-person or online.

HopeTree Walk-a-Thon This Saturday, July 11 – Our church supports the ministries of HopeTree Family Services with space in our facility and support in our budget. You can add to that support by participating in their Virtual Walk for Hope by doing some physical activity (e.g., walking, running, hiking, biking, tread-milling, gardening, dancing, playing with family or friends) wherever you are on Saturday, July 11 between 8am and noon as part of their Virtual Walk-a-Thon. You can register at https://hopetreefswalkforhope.wufoo.com/forms/zyfu0ht1sart3n/ or by contacting Chas Colley at (540) 389-2112. Any donations raised should be sent directly to HopeTree at PO Box 849, Salem, VA 24153. Anyone raising at least $35 will get a t-shirt. I plan to run/walk on the Creeper Trail starting at Watauga Station at 8am on this Saturday, July 11. I hope to make it to Alvarado. If you would like to donate $/mile or join me on the journey, please e-mail or call me with your donation or to let me know that you plan to join me. All money raised will help support HopeTree. Let’s support this important ministry together and get some exercise as a bonus! Gospel Tracts Available – After our recent Don Sunshine “Make A Difference” training, we ordered witnessing tracts for your personal use in sharing the gospel. There are three versions of the Gospel of John tract available. The inside of the tract is identical for all three just the cover is different. These tracts contain a presentation of the gospel and the full text of the Gospel of John. We also have some “God’s Bridge” and “Roman Road” tracts that simply and clearly present the gospel. If you would like to have some of these tracts on hand for witnessing opportunities, they are available and free for the taking in the rack just outside the church office.

PENCIL PROJECT

School is different – not a surprise!! School starts in Washington County on August 10th,, with the school board looking at three different options for the students. Regardless of the option they choose; however, children will need back to school supplies. As in the past, the Friends of Audrey & Jill WMU Circle is working with other churches to provide school supply bags to Stone Soup Food Pantry (SSFP) to be given out to customers with children as they pick up their food. Following is a listing of items that we include in the bags:

2 paks of 70 wide ruled paper (or equivalent) 2 spiral bound paper 1 composition book 1 pencil sharpener 1 box of 24 crayons 2 erasers 1 pencil box 2 paks of 10 - #2 pencils (or equivalent) 1 pak of 10 pens (either black or blue ink) 1 pak colored pencils (usually come in paks of 10 or 12) 4 glue sticks 1 pair Fiskars scissors

We would appreciate your help by either providing some of the items listed or providing a cash (check) donation and we will do the shopping. We will then assemble the bags and get them delivered to SSFP so ours with other churches will be enough to hand out before the first week of school. Donations may be mailed to the church office or placed in the offering plate on Sunday, any items you provide can be dropped off at the church office. Thank you for your past support and we look forward to your support again this year. Friends of Audrey & Jill, WMU Mission Circle
