Copper Collection I have this quarter sent £ 50.00 to each of two charit ies, Love Oliver- funding research into children's cancer and supporting families affected - and to Edinburgh City M ission for its Care Van M inistry -a Care Van goes round Edinburgh every evening offering practical help. The lunchtime Care Van goes out Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Clients receive sandwiches, crisps, fruit and hot drinks. Thank you for coppers and 5p pieces - please keep them coming. - Muriel.

ThanksI would like to thank all those who sponsored me in the Tour de Ross cycle around Wales and England during the last week in June. Although a number completed the 6 day tour over the full 500 miles I completed my 150 miles over two days as part of relay team w ith two of my veterinary colleagues. Not bad for someone who sat on a road bike for the f irst t ime in February this year- a bike loaned to me by Daniel Carnall. With your generous support I was able to raise £ 630 which contributed to the overall total of £ 50,000 for the Honey Pot Charity. The charity supports carers under 12 who look after their disabled parents.

Minister in Benbecula, we are busy trying to ensure that a replacement is found as quickly as possible. Please pray that the right person w ill be found. We w ish Drew and his family every blessing as they go to a very different environment from Kirkliston.

Whatever the environment in which we are called to serve we can be assured that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. In t imes of change and uncertainty this is a wonderful message. We face uncertain t imes as a nation and the world seems full of acts of violence and terrorism. Sometimes it can feel as if we are in a very narrow place and we may wonder where God is. The Gospel tells us he is here w ith us. When there is no way round or no way out there is always a way through w ith him. I hope you have all found a t ime of refreshment this summer whether at home or away and that you w ill be ready in the autumn to take up what you do w ithin the Church family ? or perhaps take on something new!

Wishing you every blessing

Ann Inglis

Dear Friends

This letter is from your Interim Moderator. I have been appointed by Presbytery while your M inister is on sick leave. I hope my time w ith you w ill be short as that w ill mean that Maggie is able to resume her duties but in the meantime it is my responsibility to ensure that the congregation continues to run smoothly. The pastoral work w ill be carried out by our locum Marion Donald whom many of you know. She w ill also conduct most of the services. I hope that when Maggie comes back she w ill f ind the congregation has been continuing its life of w itness and mission just as if she were here.

The summer is often a down time in congregational life. However, w ith Drew Kuzma leaving to begin his adventure as the

and large as they joined in w ith the Danish equivalent, the FDF, at their national camp. 11, 000 young people from 28 nations pitched-in for a successful camp. The lads enjoyed some canoeing, sightseeing and even a trip to a world famous amusement park as part of the journey. Then Soul Survivor where the youth took part in a Christian festival at Lendrick Muir. Our youth group once again joined forces w ith the Hilton Youth Project from Inverness for the week.

Please give thanks that the young people have had some signif icant encounters w ith the Lord.

Well there is a lot going on and much change afoot. As many of you w ill no doubt be aware there are a few people who w ill be leaving us this season on the Youth and Family side of things.

Litt le Coffee Stop ? Amongst all the change, LCS w ill have some familiar faces stepping into some new roles? Morag Carnall being given general oversight of the Coffee Stop. Susan Small and Sarah Peock w ill take charge of the songs and techie side. A huge thank you to all those who help out to make the LCS a blessing to our community, and, give of themselves, their t ime and talents! LCS is back on August 26th.

Youth and Family Worker ? The job advert is currently out, and, over the next few weeks meetings and interviews w ill take place to f ind our new Youth and Family worker. Please continue to pray for those involved in the search and that they would know His direction.

We need some help! ? We are looking for helpers. The Total Kaos team needs a few more people to join, in order to ensure that we can continue to offer our Sunday morning programmes. If you are interested please speak to Morag.

So far this summer? Some of the youth have returned from a fortnight in Denmark w ith our Boys? Brigade. It was a muddy affair by

Dorcas

Dorcas lunches w ill start again on Tuesday 20th September. We are looking forward to welcoming back our regular diners and would love to see some new faces. Lunches are served in the Thomas Chalmers? Centre, in the Square on Tuesdays from 12 noon until 1.30. We cater for all ages; come along and give us a try. Our Christmas lunch this year w ill be on Tuesday 6th December.

Kirky Krafters

Many thanks for all your old greetings cards, we w ill be very busy soon using them to make cards for our annual sale.

Our sale this year is taking place in the Church Centre on Saturday 5th November. Put the date in your diary, more details to follow later.

From the Youth and Family Corner? CAB NewsWhen school f inished we decided to take our summer break as well. We know that the children would welcome us if we still came to see them even during holiday t ime. Unfortunately our helpers are few and really need the break. It is very encouraging when we meet the kids on the streets and they greet us w ith a friendly hello. Sometimes my visits to Scotmid turn into a chance to have a wee chat to some of them as they ?do the messages for their mums?.

The bible tells us to reach us out to the children and to love them as Jesus does. All the leaders do this by spending the t ime on a Friday night w ith them and having fun. This is a two way thing as we enjoy being w ith them and they enjoy their t ime w ith us.

Our church on the hill is, and w ill always be, as place where all are welcome whatever your age. So please come along sometime and visit us.

We w ill be back on the road on Friday the 26th August. If you have a heart for working w ith the children we would welcome your help. Please contact me for information.

Cab goes out Friday 7pm to 8.30 pm and every alternate Friday is spent in the church hall either cooking or doing games.

Love Oliver

LoveOliver is a charity set up in 2011 in memory of Oliver

Gill to help to fund research into childhood cancer and to

provide practical support to families affected by it.

Oliver was born on July 10th 2010 w ith a very rare and

aggressive form of cancer. Despite thriving and smiling his

way through intensive chemotherapy, Oliver passed away

peacefully at home on Christmas Day 2010.

The Little Coffee Stop have chosen to support Love Oliver

this year with fundraisers and a tithe from the cafe takings.

Some of this money will be going to build a garden and

family room in the new Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital where

many families like Olivers inevitably spend a lot of time.

The Guild is due to open its new session on Wednesday 14th September, w ith our guest that evening being our Interim Moderator, Rev. Ann Inglis. We are looking forward to hearing what she has to say about our theme for this year - "Go in Joy." As usual, the Committee has been working hard to set up the syllabus for the next few months and has a variety of topics for you to hear about, some serious and some light-hearted.

If you've never come to one of our meetings, you can be assured of a warm welcome. We would be delighted to see you. Meetings are the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month in the Church Centre start ing at 7.30pm. Equally, we are looking forward to welcoming all our friends back for another session of "Fellowship. Friendship and Fun." Remember, gents, that includes you! Jan Wemysspg10
