    Illinois militia during the Black hawk war alt though he

    never saw combat.

    Lincoln became an able and successful lawyer with a

    reputation as a formidable adversary during cross-

    examinations and closing arguments.

    1834 he won election to the state legislature after a

    bipartisan campaign, though, he ran as a Whig.

    On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected as the

    sixteenth president of the United States. He won over 4

    people( Stephen A. Douglas, John C. Breckinridge andJohn Bell) with 40% voice, for running to be the

    president, 40% is just a small number.

    He was the first Republican president, winning entirely on

    the strength of his support in the North.

    When Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860,

    seven slave states left the Union to form the Confederate

    States of America, and four more joined when hostilities

    began between the North and South.

    Abraham Lincoln was president during the Civil War and

    he wanted to reunite and rebuild the relationships between

    North and South also he wanted to free the slaves.

    The Emancipation Proclamation is an executive order

    issued by Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil

    War. This highlighted freedom of all slaves within any

    state that did not submit to Union.

    The Ten Percent Plan. It decreed that a state could be join

    again into the Union when 10 percent of the 1860 vote

    count from that state had taken an oath of allegiance to the

    U.S. and pledged to abide by emancipation.
