Summary• InthistalkIwillpresentanumberofcriticalco-designresearchstudies.Thesestudiesfigurenewconceptsforinteractivetechnologies,designedtosupportyoungautisticadultsinlivingindependently.Basedonthesecasestudies,Iwishtoargueforrejectingsomeconventionalideasoftechnologyasinstructing,astrainingoras‘persuading’peopletoperformindesirable,normativeways.Instead,Iargueforanewtypeofinteractivetechnologydesignedtobecomeanadaptivereflectivescaffold.Withsuchscaffoldsyoungadultsonthespectrummaydeveloptheirownsupportivelifeworlds.Idiscusssomeoftheimplicationsofthisconceptualreframingbothforcarepracticesaswellasforassistivetechnologydesign.
