let the adventure begin…

*We will not be beaten on price when comparing a like for like stay.** We conform to National Governing Bodies’ Codes of Practice. We are full BAPA

members, AALA licensed at Condover Hall and hold the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge and Adventuremark. See page 62 for more details.

As we move into our 20th year of providing exciting residential activity breaks, JCA are looking forward to meeting each of our groups who are travelling with us in 2014, and we are currently preparing for their ‘experience of a lifetime’. We are already taking feedback from our schools and we continually invest in our centres, enabling us to provide the best possible experience for students at an affordable price.*

Condover Hall, our magical JCA Centre of Excellence, is now moving into its fourth year of operation and with this move we are excited to be offering new enhancements to what is already an excellent setup. New for 2015, we will be building a new High Ropes Course, new tunnelling and laser rooms and a brand new bouldering wall – please see pages 5 & 6.

Every young person should be inspired and encouraged to venture outside their comfort zone as an essential part of learning and personal development, and each of our JCA Centres aim to provide the best possible opportunities to do this. With nationwide centres at seaside, country and watersports locations, we are sure we have something to meet all your needs and travelling distances. For those on limited budgets, we can also provide ‘One Day Adventures’ or ‘Weekend Options’ at a selection of our centres.

Be assured that you are in safe hands, as our staff and centres are inspected and continually monitored by National Governing Bodies.** JCA are also part of TUI Travel, one of the world’s leading leisure travel companies, so we operate to a PLC standard.

We hope you enjoy our 2015 brochure and we look forward to seeing you at one of our amazing JCA centres soon.

Our centres…For the 2015 season JCA are operating in four centres throughout the UK, each providing an excellent base for young people to experience new and exciting challenges in a safe, fun and friendly environment.

Our JCA Centre of Excellence, Condover Hall, is a beautiful Elizabethan Mansion House steeped in history offering our widest range of outdoor activities such as High Ropes, Zip Wire, Kayaking, Body Zorbing, Bivi Building and Camp Fires. In addition to this the centre offers a magical and enchanting atmosphere with our unique themed internal rooms including a laser maze, grid of stones, tunnelling room, dance studio and the Vortex Experience room.

There is not a single child who has not been awestruck by Condover’s magnificence since our opening!

If you are looking for a seaside location then we can offer activities such as Coastal Walk, Beach Games and Pool Snorkelling in Hampshire. At this location your students will enjoy having fun in the fresh seaside air and experience some of the outstanding scenery across the breath-taking coastlines.

At our unique Countryside location your students will have the opportunity to explore the natural environment in beautiful surroundings, such as Rookesbury Park, a private 2000 acre estate situated at the top of a picturesque hill in Fareham, Hampshire.

We provide Water Sports activities at Croft Farm, Condover Hall, Mill Rythe and Rookesbury via access to lakes. In addition to this Croft Farm is our dedicated Water Sports Centre offering Dinghy Sailing, Canoeing, Katakanuing and the new craze of Stand Up Paddle Boarding!

New range of activities… The Condover Experience keeps on getting betterFor 2015 we have some fantastic plans to once again enhance the children’s experience at Condover Hall. Subject to planning permission, we intend to spend several hundreds of thousands of pounds building a new High Ropes Course, additional Laser and Tunnelling rooms and a great new bouldering wall.

New High Ropes CourseOur existing High Ropes Course is an extremely popular and exhilarating activity, which is why we intend to invest heavily and build an exciting new linear course, enabling more children to participate at any one time. These High Rope Courses are designed to encourage groups to work together to overcome various challenges on the ground or at a height in a safe, controlled environment.

Additional Laser & Tunnelling RoomsTo enhance the centre further, we are planning on building additional Laser and Tunnelling rooms. Our existing rooms are extremely popular with our groups and, following numerous requests from teachers, we have decided to invest in new and improved Laser and Tunnelling facilities.

New Bouldering WallFinally, we have taken on-board your feedback and we will be investing in a super new bouldering wall. Whether you’re an experienced climber or just starting, the bouldering wall is safe, fun activity and a great introduction to rock climbing.

Learning outside the classroom…Every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age ability and circumstances.

Young people of all ages benefit from real life ‘hands on’ experiences; when they can see, hear, touch and explore the world around them and have opportunities to experience challenges and adventure. They need to realise the relationship between school experiences and the wider world. The classroom environment doesn’t always provide young people with enough of these opportunities.

Learning Outside the Classroom aims to get students and young people out and about. Experiences ranging from activity days to residential stays help motivate young people, reducing poor behaviour and truancy, while helping schools to raise attainment and meet Every Student Matters outcomes.

There is an increasing body of evidence which clearly demonstrates the benefits for young people’s learning and personal development outside the classroom. In summary, when young people learn outside the classroom, they:

● are exposed to new experiences ● learn in different ways related to their learning styles ● are motivated to learn more and feel positive about learning● become self-confident, developing self-esteem and self-awareness● work together, fostering decision-making and teamwork ● improve communication skills with peers and adults● are healthier, and their sense of well-being increases● appreciate the links between formal and informal learning

JCA are Learning Outside the Classroom quality badge holders ensuring good practice, high quality teaching and learning experiences and risk management. Our courses promote personal, social and health education by:

● allowing young people to face new challenges and overcome fears● developing coordination and mastering new skills● developing effective communication skills● adapting to new situations and environments ● solving problems and taking responsibility● encouraging discipline and self control● increasing self esteem and confidence● promoting team work● gaining independence● promoting a healthy lifestyle● developing a positive attitude towards others and balancing points of view

recruiting, Supervising and trainingAs a recognised Investor in People, we understand that the training and development of staff is the key to any successful company.

Recruitment Three Steps to recruiting JCA staff…1. Many of our centre staff have worked for JCA in previous seasons and choose to return year after year.

We also place advertisements in specialist publications to attract new recruits.2. Prior to recruitment, all staff are required to complete a detailed JCA application form. Individuals

are then selected for interview and are assessed on their enthusiasm, friendliness and suitability to work with students.

3. Two mandatory references are taken for each potential employee, plus an enhanced disclosure to the Criminal Records Bureau (or equivalent government agency).

Instruction and Supervision● Our instructor to student ratio is a maximum of 1 to 12 for land-based activities, 1 to 8 for all other

water sports. These ratios comply with the strict standards of the appropriate governing bodies.

● We lead the way in the multi-activity industry by training our instructors in all of our activities (with the exception of water sports where we employ specialist instructors).

● We aim for each individual to be qualified in every activity and offer the unique policy of one dedicated multi-trained instructor per group for the duration of your stay.

● Having a multi-skilled instructor helps us to understand the strengths, limitations and personalities of each student which, in turn, helps students to reach their full potential through trust and support.

● A full list of instructors’ names and qualifications are held on-site and is available to groups upon request.

Professional Training● Successful applicants are offered contracts of employment which are subject to satisfactory completion

of our intensive training course.

● The training course prepares them for their future role and involves coaches from national governing bodies as well as extensive in-house training by managers and/or senior instructors.

● Successful staff must then complete a probationary period of work, during which time they are supervised and assessed by senior JCA instructors.

● Instructors are provided with our comprehensive company training manual which includes: Activity Sessions Standards and Procedures - Strict Safety Standards and Guidelines for the conduct of all activities. Other subjects include health & safety at work, student protection, group management and other essential skills.

If any costs incurred by the company in providing you with the aforementioned financial assistance are for insured risks or in the event of a successful claim against a third party, the company reserves the right to recover costs from the party member concerned.

I - Complaints Procedure1. If there is a problem during the course, the party leader should speak

immediately to the Centre Manager who will probably be able to resolve it.

2. If the problem cannot be resolved at the Activity Centre during the course, the Party Leader should write to the company with full details on his/her return within seven days.

3. Disputes arising out of, or in connection with, this contract which cannot be amicably settled may be referred to arbitration, if the customer so wishes, under a special Scheme arranged by the Association of British Travel Agents, and administered independently by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

4. The scheme provides for a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on the customers in respect of costs. Full details will be provided on request or can be obtained from the ABTA website (www.abta.com). The Scheme does not apply claims for an amount greater than £5,000 per person. There is also a limit of £25,000 per booking form. Neither does it apply to claims, which are solely in respect of physical injury or illness or their consequences. The Scheme can however deal with compensation claims, which include an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,000 on the amount the arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. The application for arbitration and Statement of Claim must be received by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators within nine months of the date of return. Outside this time limit arbitration under the Scheme may still be available if the company agrees, but the ABTA Code does not require such agreement.

J - The Party Leader’s Responsibility1. The Party Leader should ensure that all party members observe all

laws and customs at all times. 2. The Party Leader is in loco parentis and should at all times be

responsible for the party’s welfare and the good behaviour of the party towards property and other people and to ensure that party members should be acting reasonably at all times. He/she should ensure that any damage caused by any member of his/her party is paid for immediately at the centre. He/she should ensure adequate supervision of party members at all times.

3. The company reserves the right in its absolute discretion to cancel a course at any time should the representative of the company or member of the senior management of the company or other agent/supplier/carrier/owner or manager of the Centres or accommodations or other person in authority consider that the behaviour of the party is unacceptable. The responsibility of the company for the party and its expenses will then end. No compensation payments will be considered. Full cancellation charges will be applied and no refund will be given.
