Dear Friends,A few years ago, Joliet Catholic Academy began to chart a course that would

shape its future and strengthen its legacy. The realization of that legacy … thestrengthening of excellence was positively reflected in this past year, 2004 - 2005.Students, faculty, staff, administrators, board members, alumni…all embraced thechallenge to develop a foundation of achievement that reflects the will to be the best!A few landmark achievements include:

• Induction of fifty-four students into the National Honor Society• Math Team achieved first place in Pre–Calculus and Algebra competition• Math, Language and Art Honor Societies experienced record inductions• ACT-based initiatives in the classroom producing positive results• Key Club honored as the Outstanding Service Team by Forest Preserve

of Will County• JCA student selected for the 2005 Summer Congressional Page Program• Twenty-seven seniors were recognized as Illinois State Scholars• Strong curriculum programs were developed in all departments• Several teachers/staff were named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers• Community Service Hours exceeded all expectations• Numerous essay and poetry awards • Increased use of technology in the classroom• Music/Band, Art and Drama continued to develop interest in the Arts

Actually, I could go on and on…2004-2005 was a year of achievement and commitment to academic excellence.

Certainly, athletic excellence proved itself once again with Soccer, Tennis, CrossCountry, Track, Cheerleading, Dance Team and Wrestling having outstanding seasons.A 12th State Championship in Football, Girls’ Volleyball and Baseball becomingRegional Champions and the Golf Team coming in first in Conference created a uniquespirit on campus. I believe that the athletic and extra-curricular programs at JCA provide the spark that ignites potential. When this potential is unlocked…growth occurs!

Phase Two of the construction project, the Student Activity Center, demanded muchattention and energy. Patience and vigilance were essential as the project began to takeshape. Once again, I marvel at the resilience of our students…they made, what couldhave been a difficult year, somewhat easy. With no gymnasium for our use, creativitywas stretched to the maximum! We all learned the lessons essential to succeed…a strongpositive attitude and a belief that God is with us. Projections had us in the new facility byNovember 1, 2005!

JCA continues to thrive because of the partnership between parents, alumni andfriends. Tradition is strong at JCA…tradition built on the foundation of Franciscan andCarmelite values. Be assured that JCA continues to call forth and challenge young womenand men to reach their potential. Be assured that the goal of this challenge is to embracemore fully the Catholic identity that is ours. Looking back to 1989 and the active planning of the new creation, JolietCatholic Academy, the actual beginning and continued growth during its 15 yearhistory has given me a tremendous sense of pride. What has made JCA a successstory is the thousands of families, alums, and friends who have contributed theirenergies, resources, expertise and deep religious faith in establishing this premierhigh school. To each of them we thank God for the blessing you are in makingthis all possible.

Building a sense of purpose in the students that come to JCA is at the heartof the school. Teaching young adults to meet the challenges of life with the attitude of Christ is a great responsibility. The school’s teachers and administrators are dedicated to providing a learning environment of Christianlove and concern. Each student is valued as an individual and provided opportunities for growth and development both academically and spiritually. As a community of faith, JCA seeks the health integration of faith and life on a daily basis and for life.

JCA will continue to thrive as long as a vision for the future includes aschool that is distinctively Catholic, a community focused on the love of Godthrough Jesus Christ, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel; St. Francis of Assisi; and a commitment of excellence in every aspect of life.

S P I R I T U A L I T Y

Dear JCA Family,The 2004–2005 academic year marked the continuation of a great tradition

as well as the start of a new phase.

The construction of the Student Activity Center caused a disruption of thephysical plant. Construction materials and construction workers dominated thelandscape. The “old” gym became unusable, parking scarcer and practice timesboth earlier and later. The class of 2005 sacrificed its home; they were alwaysthe visiting team. Yet, the tradition continued. The 2004-2005 academic yearsaw 54 students inducted into the National Honor Society; the football teamwon its record 12th State Football Championship; 27 students were namedIllinois State Scholars; the girls volleyball team and the baseball team wonRegional Titles.

Excellence in academics and athletics is what JCA represents and is whatwe, as a family, work and sacrifice for. The completion of the Student ActivityCenter is the keystone for the future. With the new space, the existing buildingcan be remodeled and technologically updated to serve future generations ofJCA students. The remodel process will take time, sacrifice and capital. Fiveclassrooms will be added in the summer of 2006, and an overall facility planneeds to be developed and implemented.

The 2004-2005 fiscal year was in the black. I wish to thank the members ofour family who were generous with their time and their money. JCA has a gapbetween the cost of education and the cost of tuition; this gap is overcomethrough annual giving.

Giving by the alumni has increased – this is a positive trend which needs tobe nurtured. In the future, the cost of education will increase. The task is to findalternatives to tuition dependent budgets.

JCA exists solely to serve the students. The focal points are AcademicExcellence and Catholic Spirituality. Evaluation, accountability and positive criticism need to be maintained. As a family, we must not rest on our past laurels,but must seek ways to improve.

The JCA family exists because of choice. The alumni and the current studentschose to attend JCA. The parents chose to sacrifice their needs in order to havetheir children enroll. The Carmelites and the Franciscans chose to start the tradition.The faculty and administrators chose to work for less compensation. The benefactorschose to give.

These choices are made out of a common belief – the belief in JCA, the belief inits roots, its tradition and its future. That is the choice, and that is what makes all thedifference.

■ The 2005 JCA Boys' Baseball Teamcelebrates the Regional Championship.

■ Students and parents gave over 197 hours of service to JCA painting classrooms during the summer.

■ Twenty-seven JCA students were namedIllinois State Scholarsand ranked in the topten percent of Illinoishigh school seniors.

■ Fifty-eight JCA students were inducted into theNational Art Honor Society.

■ Two JCA studentsearned the rank of Eagle Scout, thehighest advancementrank in scouting.Only 4% of scoutsearn this ranking.

■ A junior was selectedand nominated by Rep. Jerry Wellerfor the 11thCongressional Districtfor the 2005 SummerRepublicanCongressional PageProgram.

■ Five eighth-graderswere top scorers onthe placement examand each earned a$1,000 Franciscan/Carmelite Top-ScorerScholarship. Fifty-sixeighth-gradersearned $500Franciscan/CarmeliteScholarships basedon their placementexam score, reportcard, letter of recommendation and interview.

■ The JCA Math Teamreceived 1st place inthe ICTM RegionalMath Contest.
