Welcome to IU9 Summer Curriculum Institute 2009
The National Anthem was sung by Smethport students: Chelsea Becker and Karrissa Stuck
Opening comments were made by Mary Colf, IU9 Executive Director
Institute participants were welcomed by Jenny Lent, IU9 Director of Curriculum, Technology and Resources
Area educators packed the Smethport High School auditorium for the opening ceremony.
IU9 Directors and staff were in attendance.

Dr. Regina Palubinsky, Special Assistant to the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education was the guest speaker at the opening ceremony
We were also fortunate to have Secretary of Education Gerald L. Zahorchak, D.Ed.

This session was developed togive educators an increased understanding of how studentslearn to read, write and spell, as well as how to implement evidence-based classroom instructional approaches.
Generational Poverty with Kelly Compton
Kelly facilitated two workshops that strive to transform the mindset of educators and demonstrate how economic realities affect student patterns of living, learning and behavior.
