7. Brief account of existing infrastructure:

The current operating branches follow traditional infrastructure ie branches are connected to the mainframe at the central bank. The central bank used one or more IBM frames separate communication controllers supporting 32 IBM terminals. The communication took place via leased lines using half duplex modem V.32 modem. SNA normally used expensive leased lines dedicated private telephone lines & modems. The European PTT pushed for less expensive solutions using the services of X.25 Packet Switching Data Networks (PSDN). To enable SNA Connections, IBM introduced Qualified Logical Link Control (QLLC) protocol interface between SNA & X.25. X.25 - It is a description of rigorous error correction needed to achieve as well as more efficient sharing of capital intensive physical resource QLCC – It is one of the generic data link controls. It provides an access procedures to attach X.25 packet switching network. It allows point to point connection.

1. Database related infrastructure: (By Shashank, Souradyuti)

Most of the software applications in the banking sector have client-server architecture. A

centralized database server is used which acts as backend data store for all these applications.

Database Vendor: Oracle Corporation

Database Software: Oracle Database Server 11g Release 2

Version: 11.2.0.4

Oracle Database 11g R2 Enterprise Edition (EE) is preferred as it includes more features than

other editions, especially in the areas of performance and security which are critical to the

banking sector. Oracle Corporation licenses this product on the basis of users or of processors,

typically for servers running 4 or more CPUs. EE has no memory limits, and can also utilize

clustering.

2. Network: (By Kaustubh, Raj)

Network Topology: In the given scenario, Bank has four major departments’ viz. Retail Banking,

Consumer Lending, Loan Operations, Private Banking as well as two Printers which serve all the

four departments. Hence network design follows Star Topology.

Ethernet: Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-LX) is used which supports full duplex connections.

3. Software Applications: (By Raj, Manish)

I. Finacle 11E: The Bank decided to go with the advanced universal banking solution Finacle

11E Version for its new branch. It allows banks to quickly target new customer segments.

Banks can also choose the components they need and replace their existing systems one

step at a time, to progressively modernize their business.

With the help of the Finacle 11E, Banks can create and deploy new products in weeks

instead of months. The deployment cycles are shorter and the total project costs are

Page 5: Itie Ass1 _ Group 5 _ Div c _ Final

significantly less. It also has advanced payment services to cater to banks’ payments

business. Besides it enables customers to navigate seamlessly across multiple channels

without losing the transaction context.

II. Norton 360 Antivirus by Symantec: Actively protects the systems from viruses, spam, identity theft and social media dangers

III. Cisco ASA 5500 Firewall: This firewall provides robust web security, advanced threat

protection with a comprehensive, highly effective intrusion prevention system (IPS) and

secure remote access. It supports a wide range of security protocols and authentication

methods, including Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Data Encryption Standard (DES),

3DES, Message-Digest Algorithm (MD5) and Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA-1) , Also supports

Public-Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Internet Key Exchange (IKE – main and aggressive

modes).

4. Hardware: (By Kuldeep, Shashank)

Servers used: HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Server - 8-Cores 48GB RAM, 14TB Storage Capacity (No of

servers- 2)

Routers: Cisco 3825 Integrated Services Router has been used that supports:

Up to two 10/100/1000 Mbps built-in routed ports

Up to 112 10/100 Mbps switch ports with optional Power over Ethernet (PoE), for

providing DC power to network devices such as IP phones

Up to 2500 VPN tunnels

Support for wireless LAN standards 802.11a/b/g

Support for a Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) port for Gigabit Ethernet

(No of routers- 1)

Switches: The Cisco® Catalyst® 4948 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) Switch is used which is a wire-

speed, low-latency, Layer 2–4, 1-rack-unit (1 RU) fixed-configuration switch for rack-optimized

server switching. Based on the proven Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series hardware and software

architecture, the Cisco Catalyst 4948 10GE offers exceptional performance, bandwidth, and

reliability for low-density, multilayer aggregation of high-performance servers and workstations.

(No of Switches-2)

Systems: Dell Vostro 230 Desktop PC: Core2 Duo 2.93 GHz, 4GB Ram, 500GB HDD, Windows 7

Pro. (No of Systems installed - 20)

Printers: Canon PIXMA MX922 Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax
