CCN In the News: Cobourg Resident Receives Provincial Award
Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is pleased
to announce that Kendra Simmons (pictured 3rd
from left) of Cobourg has been named one of the
2017 June Callwood Circle of Outstanding
Volunteers Award recipients.
In 1994, the Hospice Association of Ontario, now
Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPC0), established
the June Callwood Award to acknowledge and
thank outstanding hospice volunteers throughout
Ontario. The award was named for the late June
Callwood, volunteer, founder of Casey House
Hospice, community activist, author and recipient
of the Order of Canada. June was the first recipient of this award in 1995 and since then over 570 inductees have
received this award.
“Kendra has given a decade of consecutive service while supporting the visiting hospice services program. She
provides client services and is faithfully relied upon. She is active in administrative and leadership roles with the
Advisory Committee and serving on the Board of Directors,” said Trish Baird – Executive Director of CCN. “Kendra
has organized Memorial services, fundraising activities and mentors new volunteers. She is attentive and
genuinely interested in the latest trends in the hospice world.”
Recognized inductees:
• are volunteers of a HPCO member in good standing; which Community Care Northumberland qualifies
and;
superlatively volunteer themselves, their time, their skills, their resources and their passion toward
providing quality hospice palliative care and support
“Kendra’s true gift is her sensitivity to the needs and hope of the dying and supporting their wishes,” added Baird.
“Volunteers like Kendra are an essential element to the delivery of our visiting Hospice Services program within
Northumberland County,” added Baird. “It is an honour to congratulate Kendra for her outstanding volunteer
efforts and her passion for Hospice services in our region.”

CCN In the News: Annual Cramahe Township Seniors’ Picnic
Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is pleased to announce the Annual Cramahe Township Seniors’ Picnic will
be held at Old St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Colborne on Wednesday, July 12th, 2017. This annual event
starts at 11:30 am.
Music will be performed by the Ganaraska Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus from 11:30 am -12:00 noon
At 12:00 noon, lunch begins
The Lions Club of Colborne, Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge members will be helping serving lunch.
There will be door prizes
Admittance is free for resident seniors of the Township of Cramahe however, you must pre-register.
Weather permitting this event will take place as planned on the lawn at the church; if it rains the event will be
moved inside the church.
“We are pleased to continue to offer a seniors’ picnic in Colborne.” said Trish Baird, Executive Director of CCN.
“This event would not be possible without local partnerships which include our volunteers and donors.”
To register your attendance by July 5th, 2017 please call the Community Care Northumberland’s program office in
Colborne (905)355 – 2989 or drop by; the office is located at 11 King Street East, Colborne (behind Downey
Pharmacy) to register in person. Admittance is free for resident seniors of the Township of Cramahe who have
pre-registered however, donations are always appreciated.

instruction and in-class help from
our very talented instructor

Northumberland United Way’s Day of Caring
Northumberland United Way organized its annual event where workers from participating businesses help
organizations, individuals and community projects. This year, some of our clients in Port Hope received a helping
hand on some home maintenance projects from staff of CPK and Cameco Fuel Manufacturing.
