CCN In the News: Move for What Matters

Supporting Hospice Palliative Care in Northumberland County

Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is pleased to announce it will be hosting “Move for What Matters.”

client moves from place to place. This support program is offered at no cost to clients or their families.

CCN needs pledges and participation in its “Move for What Matters” walk to help ensure that this continues.

Meet A Member of Our Staff: Natisha Debutte

I started to work with CCN back in 2009 when I was hired to work on a project with other agencies in the Port Hope area focusing on Caregiver Support. I then worked as the Home At Last/Home First Coordinator in the Cobourg office, spending sometime in the Campbellford area. I moved to Campbellford in 2011 with my 3 children to be closer to my parents and settle into a small community where I could raise my boys. I accepted the position of Program Assistant at the Campbellford office shortly after that and in 2013 the position of Program Coordinator. I have thoroughly enjoyed my days at CCN and the experience of working within the different offices, different roles and all the wonderful people I have meet. Even with my background and education in Human Resources there are many things that make me proud and happy about working for such a great organization…it’s the business of kindness. For those that have ever been into my office my notice a print out that I have posted: “If you’re helping someone and expecting something in return, you’re doing business and not kindness”. When my children, or anyone for that matter, asks me what I like about my job I usually say all of it! It is a blessing to know that you contribute, even in a

small way some days, to making someone’s live a little brighter or a little safer. Pictured right: With my parents; Robert and Norma, and 2 of my 3 boys; Carter and Grayson at the Taylor Sugar Bush. Missing from the photo is my oldest son Tyler (unfortunately he was busy working and unable to join us) - April 2017

Outside of work you will find me at the local Curling Club most early mornings where I enjoy

making fitness part of my daily routine, and most evenings in the winter I will be at the Arena

watching one of my children playing hockey, or at the ball diamond in the summer.

Health & Safety Column: Tips to “Fall Proof” Your Home

An important step toward preventing falls at home is to remove anything that could cause you to trip or slip while walking.

Arrange furniture to give you plenty of room to walk freely.

Be sure that carpets are secured to the floor and stairs. Put non-slip strips on floors and steps.

At home and elsewhere, try to avoid wet floors and clean up spills right away.

Be careful when walking outdoors, and avoid going out alone on ice or snow. During the winter, ask someone to spread sand or salt on icy surfaces.

Poor lighting -- inside and outdoors -- can increase your risk of falls. Good lighting on stairways is especially important.

Place a lamp within easy reach of your bed. Put night lights in the bathroom, hallways, bedroom, and kitchen. Have handrails installed on both sides of stairs and walkways.

Properly placed grab bars in your tub and shower, and next to the toilet, can help you avoid falls, too. You might find it helpful to rearrange often-used items in your home to make them more accessible.
