We were fascinated by the restoraon story and the recovery of that huge W W 2 Halifax Bomber, and the fate of it’s crew. It had been recovered from the deep lake in Norway where it crash landed aſter taking a German Ack-Ack round through the wing tank. (A young Norwegian lad had witnessed that event , it was not too many days prior to the war’s ending. He told somebody about what he had witnessed and approximately where the plane had entered the water and sunk. His memory of the crash landing has enabled the man who used this knowledge to get this huge plane raised up and brought back to Canada, where our many volunteers spent a period of some 10 years in restoraon, a mammoth labour of love by them. We also saw many other of the relics from as far back as the very early 20th. century and one fascinang display of the “Great escape “ It is a scale model of the escape by the allied airmen during W W 2 from one of the German prisoner of war camps , which ended so sadly with the recaptured air crews being executed by the Nazis. ( Not the Hollywood version , which was totally inaccurate, but the actual story)... It was a great excursion out for us, and we wish to thank Com/Care for the use of their vehicle and driver. Our only regret is that we did not have enough me to see everything on display. We will need to go back to spend more me vising this great museum along with it’s wonderful treasure chest of items dedicated to our brave airmen. Here’s the gang beneath the huge wings of the Halifax bomber. Thanks to Com/care and our wonderful staff at the Brighton Branch, and to Thorb Smith for organizing this great field trip. Port Hope Office Update

Our agency was honoured recently to be named as one of the beneficiaries of memorial donations for a client of

ours who had passed away while being a recipient of our Personal Distress Alarm (PDA) program. This was

appreciated by us in more ways than one – our client felt we made a significant contribution to her well-being

and she chose to give back; by giving back she was allowing others in similar circumstances to take advantage of

the PDA program funded through donations and fundraising; and last but not least we felt valued.

No matter how small or insignificant you think your contribution is, let there be no doubt that your efforts do not

go unnoticed or appreciated by someone in need.

Meet A Member of Our Staff: Irene Newington

Irene Newington started at CCN in December 2014, as the scheduler for Specialized

Transportation Department, scheduling drives for the accessible and rural routes for all

of Northumberland County.

“I have the best job ever, as the scheduler I have the privilege of working with our

community partners and clients in collaborating the best strategy to assist clients meet

their goals and needs. I am always thinking of how best we can serve our clients and

assist them with their daily endeavors and advocating on their behalf,” said Irene. “It

has been a great opportunity for me to learn the operations of other community

agencies and by attending seminars to keep abreast of current issues/challenges.

During this time I have also been able to attain personal goals and extend my

proficiency and skill base.”

Dear Northumberland County Residents: My name is Helen Manley and I'm writing to you from the new CBC series The Great Canadian Baking Show, our version of the British classic, Great British Bake Off. We are delighted to be producing this heart-warming, lovely show and are currently searching for great enthusiastic, talented amateur bakers from across Canada. The contest will celebrate Canadian baking in all forms and we just need to get the word out there! I'm wondering if there is any way that you could help me to get the word out there to the talented bakers in your communities! We are looking to represent Canadians across the board, from all regions, age and ethnicity. It would be terrific if you could reach out to anyone you know personally (previous pie winners? contestants?) or to post online perhaps? Because this is a first season, we really do rely on word of mouth and recommendations, social media and newsletters to get the word out. If you would be willing to post this opportunity for us that would be wonderful. The timeline is quite tight, as we're casting until April and will be filming from mid-May onward. Please contact me if you would like to speak about this or if you have any questions. Thank you again for your time and I look forward to hearing from you. Kindest regards, Helen Manley, Casting Producer, The Great Canadian Baking Show 647.688.3565 [email protected] www.cbc.ca/life/greatcanadianbakingshow.
