Now that all the expenses have been tallied and the happy prize winners have been nofied I wanted to update our FOCUS readers on this fundraising event. This is the second large raffle that CCN has done over the past three years. The first was the ‘Car Eliminaon Draw’ and this past one a ‘Cash Prize Eliminaon Draw’ with the grand prize being $10,000. Pat Young from Brighton, the Grand Prize winner, was pictured in the FOCUS receiving her winnings and I am sure is well on the way to deciding how to use this unexpected windfall. Congratulaons. In total, once over $21,000 in cash prizes were delivered to winners CCN was able to realize over $11,000 in net funds raised. This amount will be used towards delivering programs throughout the communies served by Community Care Northumberland. I want to say a special thank you to the volunteers who were part of the Commiee that organized this fundraiser and ensured that ckets were available, organized cket selling venues and helped out during draw day. The following individuals - Volunteers; Dan Pearson (Chair) – Colborne, Angela Hook – Trent Hills, Krista Sullivan – Brighton and staff members; Alicia Vandine, Sheri Birney, Charloe Clay-Ireland, Sherry Gibson and Cheryl McFarlane all deserve a round of applause for their efforts. The need for financial support from our communies connue to grow as our client populaon increases in needs. Without volunteers stepping forward in helping to plan and recruit others to join their efforts we would not see the success that we do every day. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Successful Cash Prize Elimination Draw!

Now that all the expenses have been tallied and the happy prize winners have been notified I wanted to update our

FOCUS readers on this fundraising event.

This is the second large raffle that CCN has done over the past three years. The first was the ‘Car Elimination Draw’

and this past one a ‘Cash Prize Elimination Draw’ with the grand prize being $10,000.

Pat Young from Brighton, the Grand Prize winner, was pictured in the FOCUS receiving her winnings and I am sure is

well on the way to deciding how to use this unexpected windfall. Congratulations.

In total, once over $21,000 in cash prizes were delivered to winners CCN was able to realize over $11,000 in net

funds raised. This amount will be used towards delivering programs throughout the communities served by

Community Care Northumberland.

I want to say a special thank you to the volunteers who were part of the Committee that organized this fundraiser

and ensured that tickets were available, organized ticket selling venues and helped out during draw day. The

following individuals - Volunteers; Dan Pearson (Chair) – Colborne, Angela Hook – Trent Hills, Krista Sullivan –

Brighton and staff members; Alicia Vandine, Sheri Birney, Charlotte Clay-Ireland, Sherry Gibson and Cheryl

McFarlane all deserve a round of applause for their efforts.

The need for financial support from our communities continue to grow as our client population increases in needs.

Without volunteers stepping forward in helping to plan and recruit others to join their efforts we would not see the

success that we do every day. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

So, stay tuned for our next big fundraiser – ‘Move for What Matters’ – Brighton Memorial Park on May 1st

supporting CCN Hospice Palliative Care Program.

CCN In the News: New Partnership in Colborne

Community Care Northumberland (CCN) has organized a new spring session of exercise classes for seniors in

Colborne thanks to a sponsorship from Downey Pharmacy.

from Downey Pharmacy presenting a cheque to Community

Care Northumberland.

Downey Pharmacy provided a sponsorship of $750.00 to help

Community Care Northumberland offset the cost of rental at

the Keeler Centre so that they could continue to deliver their

classes free of charge to seniors. The new class runs Tuesdays

and Thursdays at 10:00 am – 11:00 am.

“Downey Pharmacy has been part of Colborne for 40 years

and we feel it is our commitment to support seniors in our

community,” said Tamer Elokda – Owner Downey Pharmacy.

This free program for seniors will be led by a trained health care professional from Closing the Gap. Participants

will complete a screening questionnaire so that exercises can be modified for them to help ensure their safety.

“Our exercise classes are designed to work on strength and balance for seniors,” said Trish Baird – Executive

Director of Community Care Northumberland. “The classes are not intimidating and participants are encouraged

to go at their own speed.”

Class Summary:

Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays Location: Keeler Centre, 80 Division Street, Colborne, Ontario Time: 10:00 am – 11:00 am If you would like more information about this free exercise class for seniors in Colborne please contact Brenda at the CCN office in Colborne – (905) 355-2989.

Trent Hills Program Update

Our Personal Distress Alarms have been very helpful to many members of the community. For a low cost of $15/

month clients, and their caregivers, have some relief in knowing that they are able to push a pendant in the event

of an emergency to get help. A staff member will install the unit into the client’s home and explain the process in

detail. It is ideal for:

Elderly people living alone

People with medical problems

People concerned about being alone

The wireless transmitter can be both a pendant and a wristband, is sealed for complete water resistance so it can

be worn in the bath or the shower. There is a 24 hour test signal sent to the monitoring station at Trent Security

Systems so that the status is constantly monitored.

Currently we have a few units available if anyone is interested, or knows someone that may benefit from this

service. Please contact the Campbellford office at (705) 653-1411 for more information.

Many people are interested in eating less meat but don't

want to give up great flavour in their food. One solution is to

look to the cuisines of other countries and incorporate them

into your cooking. In this recent workshop, Dorothy Fletcher

took participants on a whirlwind taste tour from a curry in

India to a tagine in Morocco to an Asian salad--and much

more.

To receive information about upcoming workshops—please

contact Gail in the Brighton office - (613)475-4190.
