The Story The soldiers, led by US Army Colonel Don Pedro, return home on leave from service in WWII. They are welcomed to Messina, SC, by old friend Leonato and invited to stay a month for celebration and respite. Among Don Pedro’s entourage are his illegitimate brother, opportunist and malcontent Don John; the ladies’ man Captain Benedick; and the young First Lieutenant Claudio. Claudio falls in love with Leonato’s daughter Hero, while Benedick declares himself an eternal bachelor. Leonato’s niece Beatrice swears that she, too, “could not endure a husband!” What will happen when the small-town rumor mill—fueled by intentions both good and ill—comes to life? Will it bring family and friends together, or could it tear them apart?...
