Course Program

‘International standard of talent development’

8am – 9am Registration 9am – 10.30am ‘The Principles of Football Periodisation’

Football periodisation is the planning of all football activi-ties: tactics, game insight, technique and fitness. In youth football the principles of periodisation are crucial to opti-mize talent development and to minimize injuries. Based on the characteristics of the game, Raymond Verheijen will present principles like ‘quality over quantity’, ‘pre-season periodisation’ and ‘fitness versus freshness’ so coaches can al-ways train and play with their best players. 10.30am – 10.45pm Coffee break 10.45pm – 12pm ‘Short and long term consequences of changing the cut offdateinyouthfootball–ascientificstudy’

Youth football in the US is dealing with a registration change. Starting this fall all the youth players will be placed on teams according to their birth year (cut off date was August 1). In Holland this same change of the cut off date took place in 1999 (from October 1 to January 1). As this change was made in the middle of a 12 year-longitudinal growth study, the short and long term consequences of such a change are well documented. Raymond Verheijen will present the key points for youth coaches based on the 10.000 player database. 12pm – 1.30pm Lunch on own 1.30pm – 3pm ‘Feyenoord Academy - a case study’

At the World Cup 2014 more players have come through the Feyenoord Academy than the academy of any other club, according to the ranking published by the CIES Football Ob-servatory. Nine players at the World Cup in Brazil came through the Feyenoord Academy. FC Barcelona and Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica also developed nine players, but they made fewer appearances for their club before the age of 23. The Feyenoord Academy has been voted the best youth academy in the Netherlands for five consecutive years. Raymond Verheijen will present a case study about how the implementation of the football specific philosophy became the foundation of one of the most successful academies in the world.

“The way its organised and the information he has been sharing is absolutely superb. It is a significant investment of someone’s time. I really feel this would benefit anyone in my position in the US. We got significant information that we used with great success!”Anson Dorrance, Head CoachUNC Women’s Soccer Team
