The Cardiovascular Society, Mauritius in collaboration with the European Society of Cardiology, present SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM CPD POINTS 8 CONFERENCE ACCREDITED BY THE MEDICAL COUNCIL OF MAURITIUS Isabel BARDINET (CEO, ESC) Isabel Bardinet started her career in the meetings industry in 1988 when she entered SOCFI, a French PCO, where she organised national, international and governmental congresses, presented many interna- tional bids and learnt association management. In 2005, she joined the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) to become the Congress Division Director. In 2009 Isabel became CEO of the ESC which currently gathers six sub-specialty associations, 15 working groups, 56 national cardiac societies and six councils in addition to the main cardiolo- gy association, with 94,000 members in over 90 countries. Isabel received the 2015 Professional Convention Management Association Chairman’s Award for her creative involvement of the community in advancing the ESC’s mission at the ESC Congress 2015 in London and the 2017 JMIC Power & Profile Award. She has been named one of the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry. Prof. Jeroen BAX (Past President ESC, Chairman of the Nominating Committee) Jeroen J. Bax is Professor of Cardiology and Director of non-invasive cardiac imaging, at the Department of Cardiology, Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. He has been working intensively with the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He has been Associate Editor of the American College of Cardiology and is currently Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal. He has co-authored numerous scientific articles, has guided many PhD fellows and his main interests of research include imaging in heart failure, stable coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and atrial fibrillation. His expertise in in Cardiac imaging, MRI, MSCT echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. Prof. Marco ROFFI (Interventional Cardiologist, Cardiology Division, University Hospital of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland) He is topic coordinator of the ESC Congress 2017-2018 and will be chairman of the ESC Congress 2019-2020. Dr. Roffi is member of the ESC Committee for Practice Guidelines, was task force member of multiple ESC guidelines and was chairman of the 2015 ESC NSTE-ACS guidelines, the 10th most cited 2016 paper indexed in the Web of Sci- ence. As member of the ESC Committee for Global Scientific Activities, Dr. Roffi is in charge of the joint activities between the ESC and the national cardiac societies of India (CSI) and Saudi Arabia (SHA) for the years 2017-2019. He has co-authored over 270 PubMed publications. His clinical and research fields of interest include acute coronary syn- dromes, antiplatelet therapy, coronary artery disease in diabetes, and carotid as well as peripheral interventions. Prof. Dan ATAR (Past Vice-President ESC) Professor of cardiology at the University of Oslo in Norway. Dan Atar studied medicine in Basel and was then trained in internal medicine and cardiology. This was followed by stays abroad: at John Hopkins University in Baltimore (1991–1994) and the University of Copenhagen, where he worked as a senior cardiologist. From 1997 to 1998 Dan Atar served as senior physician, supported by the Cloëtta Foundation of Cardiology at the University Hospital of Zurich. His license to teach at University (Habilitation) was transferred from the University of Basel to the University of Zurich. In addition to clinical work Dr. Atar conducted experiments: he investigated ischaemia and reperfusion of the heart. After serving as senior physician at the University of Copenhagen, in Frederiksberg Hospital, in 2002 he was appointed head of the cardi- ology department at the University of Oslo in Norway. Here he worked with a large team of cardiologists and clinical researchers, especially in the field of cardiac markers, heart failure, and cardiovascular phar - macology. Prof. Rick GROBBEE (Cardiovascular Epidemiology) Julius Center Research Program Cardiovascular Epidemiology Diederick Grobbee is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the Univer- sity Medical Center Utrecht and was appointed University Professor International Health Sciences and Global Health in 2010. In 1996 he founded the Julius Center and served as its director for 14 years. He is Chief Scientific Officer of Julius Clinical Research, ltd. After a residency in Internal Medicine, he was appointed Associate Professor and sub- sequently full Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at Erasmus University. He was a Visiting Associate Professor at Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, and is Visiting Professor at the University of Sydney. He is a fellow of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and chair of its Medical Section and its Medical Advisory Committee, board member of the Netherlands Heart Foundation and board member of the Academic Alliance for Clinical Trials. He is a past president of the Netherlands Epidemiological Association. At Utrecht University he directs the MSc program “Epidemiology”. SInce 2012 he is chairman of the Center for Circulatory Health at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Prof. Victoria DELGADO Prof. Victoria Delgado is cardiologist and has specialty non-invasive imaging. She gained her PhD with distinction in 2010 on the topic “Novel cardiac imaging technologies”. In 2005 she completed training as a cardiologist and in 2006 its sphere of interest in the non-invasive imaging. Both courses she took in the Hospital Clinic, part of the University of Barcelona (Spain). In 2007 she began a fellowship in “new non-invasive cardiac imaging” at the Department of Cardiology in the Leiden University Medical Centre.
