Imagine UBC culminates with the Main Event Carnival, which showcases UBC’s clubs, resources, ser-vices and undergraduate societies. It is an event for the entire campus community including new-to-UBC and returning students, faculty and staff. Over 250 groups will set up booths and activities along Main Mall to welcome students for the year and showcase the many opportunities for involvement and support at UBC. On the Main Event Carnival stage, more than a dozen clubs will show off their talents, and stu-dents can come bounce around at the AMS First Week bouncy castle.

MEMS We pursue research in a wide range of areas in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and microfluidics. We develop microflow control strategies, investigate flow physics of complex microflows, as well as microflow characterization methods. We also work on microoptical devices, sensing technology, biomedical microdevices and fabrication techniques for microelectrome-chanical structures.

Applied Fluid Mechanics Experimental Study of Flow through Forming

Fabric Pulp and Paper Research Center Fluid mechanics as it applies to the pulp and pa-

per industry. Engineering Co-op Office Talk to the Mechanical Co-op Advisors and learn

how co-op can enhance your engineering educa-tion.

Complex Fluids Lab Using theory and computations to understand

problems in which nonlinearities and multiple length scales give rise to complex behaviour. The problems bring together ideas and theory from a variety of disciplines in science and engi-neering.

Renewable Resources The Renewable Resources Laboratory conducts

high-quality research focusing on novel meas-urement technologies and sensor design.

Polymer Rheology We apply shear stress on different materials and

by measuring their resistance in front of applied force or shear we can find different property of those materials.

Multi-Scale Design Laboratory We apply design expertise from mechanical en-

gineering and electrical engineering, as well as fabrication techniques spanning from micro to macro length-scales to develop enabling tech-nologies in medicine and biology.
