Idea 1• Recipe card based around easy to make breakfast meals.

(No more than 40 minutes)• This recipe card incorporates a Mexican theme• Aimed at working woman or man• Recipe card would have a large picture of meal on the

front page with the title positioned somewhere on the page. The second page would include a brief description, ingredients, method, cooking time, a small image of the final product and the number of people the meal serves

• I will probably laminate both pages to protect them from dirt and also to make them more durable and so they last longer

• I may use the embossed process on the title and cooking time image, this would make my recipe card more interesting and appealing to the eye

• The font will be colourful but subtle, and will match with the theme

• The layout will be appealing and creative but sensible and easy to follow

What do you like about the idea? I like fact that you have chosen a Mexican vegetarian theme, because you don’t really hear about Mexican vegetarian food that often. You have also gone into a lot of detail so it is very easy to understand your idea.

What areas of the idea could be developed?You could develop the idea so your recipe cards cover a whole range of unusual international Mexican food.

What do you find interesting about the idea?Just the whole Mexican theme as I think it will attract quiet a big audience because like I said it is unusual. Also like that you will use a range of techniques such as laminating and embossing it.

What do you like about the idea?I like the English breakfast theme as you wouldn’t expect a “traditional” English breakfast to be a vegetarian option. I like that it will appeal to both men and women as it means you will attract a more diverse audience and potentially sell more of your product.

What areas of the idea could be developed?You could have included more detail in the actual idea as it lacks in detail unlike the previous idea. You could have elaborated on what kind of ideas you would have used for the English breakfast as there are lots of things you could have as a “English breakfast”. You could of elaborated on what a “regular cook” is.

What do you find interesting about the idea?Interesting what ideas you will come up for an “English breakfast” as there aren’t really a lot of vegetarian meals which the majority of people would class as an English breakfast because everyone has a stereotypical idea in their head of an English breakfast being things such as bacon, sausage, black pudding etc…

What do you like about the idea?I like the Indian theme and that, instead of having just one meal on the recipe card it is two appetisers instead and that you will have the choice of what appetisers to make, this could be used as a time saving principle.

What areas of the idea could be developed?Could have included some ideas for potential appetisers you could use as its unclear as an idea what kind of appetisers you will use on the actual product.

What do you find interesting about the idea?I like that you have included an Indian idea as India is a country which is notorious for a lot of people being vegetarians so it might attract a lot of vegetarians. Also that you have aimed it at working men and women as It would be interesting to find out how you can put together a range of appetisers for people who might not have a lot of time to cook and eat, due to working.

What do you like about the idea?I like the BBQ idea as like your other previous ideas its not something you hear of the commonly as you associate bbq’s with meat mainly. Also you have gone into plenty of detail about what font you will use and the kind of finish you will use and you have also explained why you will laminate it because it will be used outside.

What areas of the idea could be developed?You could of included some ideas for what the actual product will be so you idea is abit clearer. Also the image in the background doesn’t really work with the text on top of it as some parts are unclear.

What do you find interesting about the idea?I like that you have said you will use colours associated with summers just to make it more appealing and fitting. I also find it interesting what kind of theme you will go with for the bbq food, for example will they be complicated or simple recipes as you have limited resources when using a bbq.

What do you like about the idea? I like that it is aimed at students and that it will be easy to make and on a low budget as this will suit the university lifestyle very well, it will be interesting to see what meals you will choose especially on a low budget as vegetarian food is notoriously quite expensive.

What areas of the idea could be developed?You could included some examples of what the actual products will be so the idea is clearer.

What do you find interesting about the idea?It’s interesting that you will include step by step photos just to make it easier, this might result in the actual end recipe card being really big though.

Summary of FeedbackWhat do you agree with from your feedback?The feedback I received was very helpful and most of it I agree with. On most of my ideas I didn’t incorporate examples of the products I am going to include in my recipe cards. My feedback stated that if I had given examples, there would have been a better understanding of the idea I was trying to put across and it would of become clearer to the reader what my intentions were. This is a piece of feedback I agree with. On my 5th idea I talked about having step by step photos included on the recipe card, the feedback I received mentioned how this could be a flaw as this might result in the actual end recipe card being really big.

What do you disagree with from your feedback? On my 1st idea I talked about having my theme based on Mexican easy to make breakfasts. The target audience I would aim it at is working men and women, as they may be rushing off to work on a morning so they may need a tasteful, easy to make breakfast. My feedback said that I should maybe develop the idea so my recipe card covers a whole range of unusual international Mexican foods. After taking this into consideration I decided that I didn’t agree with this as this would effect the amount of time needed to make the food and it would make the theme irrelevant.

Idea EvaluationWhich idea that you came up with is your favourite and why?My favourite idea that I came up with is, idea 4; the barbeque theme. A reason why this is my favourite idea is because you commonly associate BBQ’s with meat, so I thought it would be a creative and diverse idea to do a vegetarian BBQ theme. I also feel that this idea has a lot potential to appeal to my target audience as the theme will attract there attention. Another reason why idea 4 is my favorite out of the few that I came up with is because you don’t usually see a vegetarian recipe card with the theme as BBQ’s. Another reason why idea 4 is my favorite idea is because the recipe card would incorporate a handful of quick and easy snacks to prepare on a BBQ instead of just having one meal to make. Which I feel could make the whole task of making the food more interesting and fun as you will be making various food

TreatmentIdea Treatment: Idea 1 – Mexican

Theme: MexicanThe theme for my idea for a recipe card will be based around a Mexican style, it will include traditional Mexican colours like red, white and green. These colours relate to the Mexican flag. The Mexican theme will also include images that relate to Mexico for example sombreros, cactus‘s and maracas. The theme will incorporate an original traditional style.

Audience: Working men and women The audience I will be targeting with this specific idea of a recipe card is working men and women. I will be targeting this audience as I think it will appeal to them the most. This is because the language incorporated in the recipe card will be slightly complex more than simple, and the information given will be instructive. Another reason why I am targeting working men and women is because of the design and layout incorporated on the recipe card, it will be straight forward and simple. Which is appropriate and will appeal to men and women that are working on a daily basis. Furthermore the method of cooking is suitable for that type of age group and may need a good solid cooking ability which working men and women are most likely to have.

Production Methods: InDesign and PhotoshopThe production methods I am going to use to produce this specific recipe card are InDesign and Photoshop. In Photoshop I can edit images to suit my recipe card, in InDesign I will design and produce the layout for my design and plan out the structure of the recipe card. I will use these production methods as I am use to these digital editing programs as I have used them in the past for other projects.

Assessment of final ideasSuitable for audience?My final idea is defiantly suitable for my audience as it doesn’t incorporate simple text and instructions that would be more suitable for a younger audience. The layout is very straight forward so to read and follow the recipe card, isn’t too time consuming. The design incorporates appropriate images that are suitable and will appeal to my specific audience also the images to text ratio is balanced out to suit working men and women.

Suitability for client?Before I put my final idea forwards to a client it needs to be suitable, I need to makes sure that my idea is realistic and that it meets the requirements set. It needs to be well planned and I need to have a large understanding of what the final product will look like.

Appeal of the design:The design is appealing due to the amount of colour fused in the design, this is mainly down to the theme, Mexican. The food is a key area for making the design appealing as that also involves a large amount of colour and helps make the design stand out.

Timescales for production:I will need to plan timescales for production to make sure I have enough time to complete every area of the project. I will need to break down the tasks and assign a certain amount of time to them for them to be complete.

Assessment of final ideasCost of any specialist work (laminating, varnishing, die-cutting):My final idea involves laminating to maintain the recipe cards condition and to make the card more durable, this means I will need the help of specialist work. The cost of laminating will not be too expensive but I will need to make multiply copies. My final idea for my recipe card involves embossing this will be a more costly process than laminating but not a large cost. I will require help from a specialist for this work.

Practical to produce in large runs?My final idea will be an easy product to produce in large runs as the product is made up of paper and ink. These materials are easy to use when producing a large printing run. A Large printer will be used for the printing run that will be able to print a lot of copies within a small amount of time, making the process quick and efficient.

Available resources:The available resources for my project are; computers, digital editing programs, printers and a laminator. There are some resources that aren’t openly available to me and I may need permission to access them such as a printer for my large printing run. An available resource that I have is abode Photoshop this is the program where I will be mostly producing my work but there may be other programs that I require for the producing of my work that aren’t available. To get around this I may have to purchase the appropriate programs I need to complete my work.

Final Group Idea

Final TreatmentIdea Treatment: Mexican Recipe Card

Theme: Vegetarian Mexican FoodThe theme for my recipe card will be Mexican, it will incorporate images and colours related to Mexico. The design will incorporate aspects from the theme of a Mexican fiesta. The theme will also incorporate traditional Mexican colours and also colours within the Mexican flag i.e. green, white and red. Vegetarianism is part of the theme as the recipe card is based around vegetarian food and so the theme will include vegetarian Mexican food.

Audience: People aged 18-35The audience I'm am choosing for my final recipe card to appeal to is people aged 18 to 35. the design and layout will be designed to appeal to that age group by incorporating text that is suitable for their reading ability. Also the there will be a good balance of text and images, also the recipe card needs to be informative but also be interesting and colourful. The design needs to be creative but toned down to a certain degree in order for the design to be appropriate for my target audience.

Production Methods: Laminating and embossingThe production methods I am going to use for my final recipe card is laminating and embossing. I am going to use the laminating process as it will protect the recipe card from getting dirty and torn. Overall making the recipe card more durable and useable. Furthermore I will use the embossing production method to create a more professional look to the final design. This will be used on specific parts of the recipe card and will make the card more appealing.

Rationale for final ideaI came up with the idea of a Mexican vegetarian recipe card and have chosen to go forward with the idea because of my own interest in Mexican food. Because I enjoy making Mexican food from recipe cards I wanted to create a vegetarian version. There is a large variety of vegetarian meals that are produced in Mexico that contain huge flavour and colour. Another reason why I decided to go through with this specific idea is because there is a large amount of food to chose from to make for the recipe card. I also chose to go forward to go with this idea is because I believe it was the best out of my ideas and I also believe it will be the most attention-grabbing design.
