Second Sunday in Ordinary Time January 15, 2012

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you. - 1 Corinthians 6:19a

SPEAK, LORD, WE ARE LISTENING In today’s first reading God keeps calling out in the night to a sleeping boy. Neither the boy, Samuel, nor his teacher, Eli, understands who is calling. But God’s persistence convinces them. Samuel is then ready—not ready yet to do anything, but ready to listen. “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10). In the Gospel Jesus is out teaching. Various peo-ple notice him and begin to gather around. They soon be-come disciples and, like the young Samuel, are ready—not ready yet to do anything, but ready to listen. “Speak,” they say, “we are listening.” God’s voice is always with us, awake or asleep. It swirls around us like fog on a waterfront, enveloping us,

gently urging us to wake up, to listen. Awareness of the voice comes first; then will-ingness to listen; then, in time, the decision to act, to live according to God’s word. Let’s ask today for the ability to keep our ears open so we don’t miss God’s voice. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Readings for the Week Monday: 1 Sm 15:16-23; Mk 2:18-22

PRAYER OF THE WEEK January 15, 2012, Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Almighty ever-living God, who govern all things, both in heaven and on earth, mercifully hear the pleading of your people and bestow your peace on our times. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Reflection question: What can I do to help to bring about God’s peace? Happy New Year! What a wonderful year of Music Ministry we had here at Incarnation. So much beautiful music was shared together, all in honor of the holy name of Jesus. What a special gift! “If the song is to go on, we must do the singing!” As always we welcome new members into our ministry to share the gifts and talents that the Lord has blessed you with. At this time, we are delighted to announce that this year for Easter, we will be presenting a musical written by Marty Haugen “That you may have life”. This show is a musical tell-ing of Stories for the Gospel of John. We invite all members of the parish to come and be a part of this wonderful celebration. We are inviting adult singers, actors and dancers. We are look-ing for musicians especially an experienced drummer and per-cussionist. If you are interested in getting involved please email me at [email protected] or call the parish office at (813) 885-7861. ALL ARE WELCOME We look forward to another wonderful year of music ministry here at Incarnation and we hope you can join us In Christ, Donal Noonan Director of Music Ministries
