Hue: this describes the colour you are using

In this picture, I use only one hue for all of my skin.

Tint: when white is added to a colour to make it feel softer, or lighter

In this picture, I use one hue for my skin.

I also use this technique for my hair, eyes, and each piece of clothing.

But I also created 3 different shades of that hue.

Shade: when black is added to a colour to make it feel darker, or heavier

Tints and shades make a character look more 3 dimensional, and also show where the light is coming from.

Add tints and shades to make your picture look more realistic.

How to create tints and shades

Use the “edit colors” function in Paint to create different shades and tints.

Pick the colour you like from the palette, and then use the slider to add tint or shade.

Size of page

Taller characters (64 x 32) allow for more detail, but are harder to do. If you do not feel confident, stick with 32 x 32.

To change sizes, go to properties on the menu.

Next, change your width (32) and height (32 or 64).
