Who is your ideal client. To run a successful Facebook Advertising campaign you need to get clear on who is it you are targeting. You need to get clear on who your ideal client actually is. You will be surprised by the amount of business owners who aren’t actually sure who these actually are.

Page 5: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

How do you define your ideal client.

If you are like most business owners, one of the most brain fizzing concepts is that there is an ideal client for you and you just have to figure out who it is.

If you don't know with certainty who your ideal client is, you aren't alone. It’s okay to change your mind. I was certain I was clear about mine until 12 months ago and I decided to completely backtrack and rebrand my business model in its entirety.

Page 6: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Lesson 1

Get specific! Try and paint a picture in your head of your ideal clients. Who do you like

to work with. Who do you hate working with. Think about what they will be doing on a daily basis. The most common method to defining ideal clients starts with getting specific first. Gender, age, where they live, how much money they make, kids, pets, are they married and so on.

My ideal client can be summarized nice and neatly. “A smart business owner who needs to increase sales and leads into their business using social media advertising”

Page 7: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Lesson 2

I want you to go away after the webinar and create a profile of who you think your ideal client is.

How old are they Are they married/single/divorced/engaged Do they have kids What are their hobbies Where do they shop What do they read (more on this topic a bit later) Where do they hang out What problem can you solve for them

Page 8: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Lesson 2

If you were them and YOU were searching for your business what keywords would you use

What other services do they buy For instance if you were looking for a woman, who liked knitting and

you sold wool. What else will she need. Knitting patterns, knitting needles, knitting tutorials, knitting machines, knitting retreats and so on. Chances are if she’s into knitting she’s not going to be under 25. She will probably be retired or have time on her hands. She will probably like arts and crafts fairs, shop in more upmarket stores, probably enjoys cooking and possibly has grand children.

Page 9: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Lesson 2

So once you have the buying persona of your ideal client you can really get your ads niched right down to talk to that person. Did she run out of wool, does she need knitting classes, can you sell her the latest all singing all dancing knitting machine.

By the way its okay to have more than one ideal client or niche but try and profile each and every person you want to sell to. Before I run any ads campaigns for clients this is one of the very first things we work on. Writing profiles of their ideal clients. If you run ads to women, aged 18-99, who live in Newcastle in the hope they enjoy knitting your ads campaign is gonna fall flat on its ass!

Who can I target with Facebook Advertising.

Facebook Advertising has numerous variations on targeting your niche, so even if you have the most obscure niche in the universe there will be a way to find them.

As I like to say, there are riches in the niches!

Page 11: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

What are the targeting options

Facebook currently has the following sections listed in audience targeting.DemographicsInterestsBehaviours

Page 12: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Demographics. Education level. Can target people with:• Associate degree• College graduate• Doctorate degree• High school graduates• In college• In high school• Masters degree

Page 13: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Field of study. Here you can target people by what they are studying.

Use this to sell books and materials relating to the type of course they are studying. Below I’ve pulled off an example of anyone aged 18-26 in the UK and USA who is currently studying geography. This is giving me an audience of 32,000 people you could sell products relating to a geography course to

Page 14: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Schools. This will target people who have a school listed on their profiles or place of study. Useful if you have a business and product to sell to college/university students. Food, restaurants and takeaways could benefit from this with a student discount offer. As an example I’ve pulled off 21,000 students at Northumbria University. I could target these with fitness classes, food offers, student nights at town centre bars etc.

Page 15: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Financial Status. You can target people by income. So if you have a product of a high end value you can fix your targeting options up with age, sex, level of income, interests, or even what colour underpants they wear to really get your ads laser targeted.

Page 16: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Here I’ve put together some of the targeting options we discussed earlier.

My client here is Male Aged 30-40 Earns over £75,000 Has a masters degree Lives in London

Now I have started to build a profile of my target audience. I would want to niche this even further down as we only know he earns over £75k and has a masters degree, we would also want to add in more audience targeting to really get our ads read by the correct audience.

Think of creating ads to every single client profile and split testing the age group, sex, location and interests/demographics/behaviours

Page 19: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Generation. You have the ability to target products to baby boomers, generation x and millennials.

Page 20: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

So here I have added to our mate who has a masters degree, earns £75k and is a millennial generation, Facebook has kindly suggested some behaviours for this person.

This has actually increased the amount of people we can target who fit this profile.

Page 21: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Life Events. You can target people who have an upcoming anniversary or have family away from home. Use this to sell greetings cards, gifts, travel discounts.

Our mate with the masters degree has just got a new job so we could target him with an ad for new clothing. He wants to look good right.

So I’ve targeted him by age, sex, salary bracket, he’s a millennial and has just got a new job and lives in London. This pulls off 560,000 people to target.

Page 23: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

Friends of. Here you can target friends of newly engaged people, newlyweds, friends of people who have moved house and friends of people with upcoming birthdays.

Interests Here you can target people by what they are interested in. Think of products they love, places they

shop, books, celebrities, tv shows and so on. If you put in an interest Facebook will also suggest other interests based on the original interest. Topics of interest are listed under the following categories.

• Business and finance • Entertainment • Family and relationships • Fitness and wellness • Food and drink • Hobbies and activities • Shopping and fashion • Sports and outdoors

Page 25: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

So our mate from earlier who just got the new job. His masters degree is in business and finance and decided he didn’t like his job and has got a job as head of the marketing division in a corporate business

Now we know what he does for a job, age, degree level, salary bracket, millennial, with a new job. But we don’t really know much about his interests do we. How do you even research what people would even be interested in. Easy.

www.amazon.com Wait, what. Yes our mate is buying some business books so he looks like

a genius at his new job.

Page 26: How To Target Your Ideal Clients With Facebook

Targeting Options

I’m off to do some research on amazon. I’ve gone to the books section and selected business and finance

books. He’s probably bought something that’s a best seller as he wants to stay

on top of the latest marketing strategies. This one looks useful: Influence, the psychology of persuasion by Robert Caldini. I’ve added this as an interest. Facebook has kindly given me a list of

extra interests generated by anyone who is interested in the above author.

You can do this for any niche to find common interests! Pretty mind blowing eh! I could now add these interests to the previous targeting options Like I said earlier to run successful ad campaigns you really need to

research your audience thoroughly.
