πρὸς σὲ προσδοκῶσι, δοῦναι τὴν τροφὴναὐτῶν εἰς εὔκαιρον, δόντος σου αὐτοῖςσυλλέξουσιν. Ἀνοίξαντός σου τὴν χείρα,τὰ σύµπαντα πλησθήσονται χρηστότητος,ἀποστρέψαντος δέ σου τὸ πρόσωπον,ταραχθήσονται. Great and most high God, whoalone possess immortality, who dwellin unapproachable light, who fashionedall creation with wisdom, who made theseparation between the light and the darknessand who placed the sun to have authorityover the day and the moon and the starsto have authority over the night, who havecounted us sinners worthy even at thispresent hour to come into your presence withconfession and thanksgiving and to offeryou our evening hymn of glory; do you, OLord who love mankind, direct our prayerlike incense before you and accept it as asavour of sweet fragrance. Grant us that thepresent evening and the coming night maybe peaceful, clothe us with weapons of light,deliver us from every night-time fear andfrom every deed that walks in darkness. Andgive us sleep, which you have bestowed on usfor our rest in our weakness, freed from everyfantasy of the devil. Judas is truly a brood of those vipers whoate manna in the wilderness and murmuredagainst the Provider; for while the food wasstill in their mouths, the ungrateful spokeagainst God; and he, the impious, holding inhis mouth the heavenly Bread, plotted againstthe Savior, how to betray Him. O insatiablegreed, and cruel daring! He sold the One whofed him. He kissed the Master and betrayedHim to death. Truly the transgressor is a sonof theirs, and with them he has inheritedperdition. Holy God, You dwell among Your saints. You arepraised by the Seraphim with the thrice holy hymnand glorified by the Cherubim and worshiped by allthe heavenly powers. You have brought all thingsout of nothing into being. You have created man andwoman in Your image and likeness and adorned themwith all the gifts of Your grace. You give wisdom andunderstanding to the supplicant and do not overlookthe sinner but have established repentance as theway of salvation.
