A Pledge to Parish Life My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is.

It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make generous gifts to causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring other people into its community, if I invite and bring them.

It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a parish with a noble spirit, if I who make it what it is, am filled with these same things.

Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be.

2013 PARISH MISSION

Saturday, February 23rd through Thursday, February 28th

This very special time of preaching, prayer, and spiritual renewal will be led by

Fr. Pete Schavitz, a Redemptorist priest.

Celebrating God’s Faith in the Human Race Baptismal Identity - An Ambassador for the Reign of God DURING THE RITE OF BAPTISM you were anointed for the first time with the Oil of Chrism. The prayer for this anointing reads: “As Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king so may you live always as a member of Christ’s Body, sharing everlasting life.” This anointing honors and strengthens every baptized person for the three most essential roles they will play in the life and mission of the Church.

Every baptized person is called to be holy and to make the world holy. This priestly role focuses on developing a relationship with God and with Jesus Christ. This relationship is more communal than individual. It’s all about helping each other experience the reign of God now - and forever.

The prophetic role is fundamentally about honesty - seeing things as they really are. We must not being afraid to think about - and talk with each other about - how we can be better or different in our daily lives. Real honesty is built on and inspired by hope - the God-like attitude of not giving up on the world. Prophets are devoted to bringing the best out of every person and every situation.

Wisdom, good judgment, and courage are characteristic of the kingly role played by every baptized person. Individually and as a faith community we must know how blessed and gifted we are and we must decide how to live. Our choices reveal our willingness to let God direct our lives as well as our courage which inspires others to seek the reign of God with us.

Every baptized person is anointed to be priest, prophet, and king. It’s a responsibility we have concerning ourselves and towards each other.

This week we more actively begin to prepare for our Parish Mission - a time for renewing our faith and our baptismal identity. If a member of our Mission Committee asks for your help, I encourage you to say “Yes” in every way possible. Our goal is to make sure every Catholic living in our parish knows about our Mission and is invited at least 6 times to attend. This will only happen if you are a part of making it come true.

“You are indeed Holy and to be glorified, O God, who love the human race and who always walk with us on the journey of life.

Keep us attentive to the needs of all that, sharing their grief and pain, their joy and hope, we may faithfully bring them the good news of salvation and go forward with them along the way of your Kingdom.”

Eucharistic Prayer for Various Needs 3 Jesus, The Way to the Father

Join me in prayer that no worry or hurt, no anger or fear, will keep anyone away. May God help us all to know that faith makes a difference. And may God help us to help each other grow in faith. Our Church will always be a “community under construction”. The mystery of imperfect people chosen by God to be the saving sign of Christ’s love!

October 11th, 2012 - November 24th, 2013

A year filled with opportunities for Catholics to experience conversion and a deeper call to discipleship.

Come and rediscover a renewed relationship with Jesus Christ and with the Church.

Deepen your trust in God and your confidence about sharing your faith with others by word and deed.

Health Advisory

Your commitment to Mass is a sign of the vitality of our parish. However, for the health of our whole community, if you are not feeling well, be attentive to these recommendations:

Don’t Come To Church …

With a fever—be fever free for 24 hrs. When you’re not feeling well— achy, tired, sore throat, no energy When you’re coughing and sneezing a

lot with a runny nose or headache

When You Do Come To Church …

Use hand sanitizer at church entrances With slight symptoms of cold or flu — Don’t take communion from the cup Offer the sign of peace with a friendly

wave or simple bow

Thank you for your cooperation in taking responsibility for the health of our community. Remember, it’s sad to miss Mass when you’re sick or taking care of someone who’s sick, but not sinful.

So, PLEASE, be sure to let us know if you are a friend, relative, neighbor, etc. are being admitted to a hospital. We want to support you in your illness. Just call the Parish Office and give us your information.

PRAYER CHAIN If you or someone you know is in need of prayer, please call either Betty Kondracki @ 868-0176 or Pat Edgar @ 868-4143

In your charity please pray for the repose of Tom Nogalski, Lucille Feldhaus and all the souls who have died this week. We pray that they may now enjoy the great blessings of eternal life and that their family and friends may find peace in the promises of Christ. Amen

DID YOU KNOW? Mass is held every Tuesday 10am at the Missouri V.A. Nursing Home chapel. It is located on 10600 Lewis & Clark (the first light south of Christian Hospital, on Hwy 367). As we approach Veteran’s Day, join us weekly as we celebrate Mass with those who know what it means to serve.

TRY THESE PICK-UP, CLEAN-UP WORKOUTS

With so much to do both at home and for your health, it seems you must double up just to keep up. But daily exercise and home chores are perfect examples of repetitive tasks that can be joined together to benefit your health. HERE’S HOW: Break a task down into its physical moves and think of ways to add to them. Try rais-ing and lowering the laundry basket as you carry it upstairs...becoming mindful of keep-ing housework motions uniform and con-trolled as you develop a rhythm...stepping in time to upbeat music or dance tunes. Loading/unloading dishwasher; wiping

counters. Step in pace, alternate in a se-ries of eight back kicks, leg lifts and ankle flexes; hold stretches of calf muscles.

Picking up, tidying up. Try controlled knee bends and raises with each object; alternate with arm extensions and toe touches.

Mopping, sweeping, vacuuming. Watch posture, switch hand positions and shift leg weight after several sts of repetition; move in a methodical pattern.

These ideas will get you started and help you come up with your own healthy combina-tions. Burning more calories helps you feel extra-energized as the chores get done. Peace and Hope, S. Rose, SSND, RN

A MASS FOR HEALING will be celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta parish church, on Wednesday, January 30th at 7:00 PM. During the celebration, Fr. Rosy and a number of other prayer teams will pray over anyone who seeks prayer for healing. While on earth, Jesus taught, healed and delivered. He commissioned all the baptized to do the same. Please come with your own needs, to pray for someone else, or as intercessor for those who are being prayed with. For more information, phone Ralph Vossmeyer at 314-867-7789

The Baptism Of The Lord January 13, 2013

Baptism of the Lord “...John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with wa-ter; but he who is mightier than I is coming...he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit…’” LUKE 3:16

The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults states that “Jesus’ immersion in the water is a sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God’s will.” In other words, as baptized Catholics there is only one simple gift that we need to give to Jesus. The only gift God wants is a complete offering of ourselves. Once we surrender ourselves to God in this way, we will know in our hearts what else God might call us to do.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Merry Christmas! Share that cheerful greeting with some folks today. They may wonder if you have had any Elvis sightings lately, attended Star Trekkie conventions, or were Cleopatra in a previous life-time. Despite the skeptics, today is solidly within the Christmas season. In fact, in some strands of the Christian tradition it represents the clearest manifestation of the mystery of the Incarnation. On Christmas Day, for example, the Gospel reading is the Prologue of John’s Gospel, which reveals the glory of Christ shining through our humanity precisely in his baptism. At any rate, this is an ancient feast, celebrated first in Egypt sixteen centuries ago. More than most other ancient people, the Egyptians understood the life‑giving properties of water. On this day, they drew water from the Nile, so central in the history of their people, and reserved it in honor. Many other places copied the custom, so that St. John Chrysostom wrote of people in Antioch gathering at midnight to collect flowing water into vessels they brought from home since “today there is a blessing on the water.” At home for dinner tonight, decorate the table with beautiful bowls of water and white candles, toast one another with goblets of sparkling water, and light a Christmas candle in the window one last time.

HOLY NAME OF JESUS FISH FRY Our parish Fish Frys will begin with Ash Wednesday and every Friday during Lent. The dates are:

Feb. 13, 15, 22; March 1, 8, 15th, 22, and 29. Remember it takes lots of volunteers to make these Fish Frys a success! Help is needed to prepare the slaw, potatoe salad and spaghetti a head of time. We are also always in need of cakes, pies, brownies etc. Why not volunteer to work a couple of hours and enjoy some time spent with parishioners!! Please contact Marialice Duhadway at 868-8449 for questions or to volunteer.
